Žilina District

Žilina (Slovak: [ˈʒilina] ; Hungarian: Zsolna [ˈʒolnɒ]; German: Sillein [zɪˈlaɪn, ˈzɪlaɪn]; Polish: Żylina [ʐɨˈlina] ; names in other languages) is a city in north-western Slovakia, around 200 kilometres (120 mi) from the capital Bratislava, close to both the Czech and Polish borders. It is the fourth largest city of Slovakia with a population of approximately 80,000, an important industrial center, the largest city on the Váh river, and the seat of a kraj (Žilina Region) and of an okres (Žilina District). It belongs to the Upper Váh region of tourism.

The Church of the Holy Trinity, since February 2008 Holy Trinity Cathedral (colloquially in Slovak Farský kostol, meaning Parish church) is a Roman Catholic church in Žilina, Slovakia. It is one of the town's most significant monuments. Together with the Burian's Tower it creates the typical skyline of the town.

The New Synagogue (Slovak: Nová Synagóga) of Žilina, Slovakia, was constructed between 1928 and 1931 to the designs of the German modernist architect Peter Behrens. It is sometimes referred to as the Neological or Neolog Synagogue (Slovak: Neologická synagóga or Synagóga Neológov), as it housed the Neolog (Reform Judaism) congregation of the town. Completed eight years before World War II, which almost obliterated the Jewish population of Slovakia, it has been called "the last Slovak synagogue". Having been used for other purposes after WW2, it was restored 2011-17 to become an arts centre.

Žilina railway station (Slovak: Železničná stanica Žilina) serves the city and municipality of Žilina, seat of the Žilina Region, northern Slovakia. Opened in 1871, the station is an important railway junction between the Bratislava–Žilina railway and the Košice–Žilina railway, both of which form part of Slovakia's main east–west rail corridor. It is also a junction for two other lines. The station is currently owned by Železnice Slovenskej republiky (ŽSR); train services are operated by Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK).

Niké Aréna is an arena in Žilina, Slovakia. It is primarily used for ice hockey and is the home arena of Vlci Žilina. It has a capacity of 6,200 people and was built in 1945.

Štadión pod Dubňom is an all-seater football stadium situated in Žilina, Slovakia, which is the home of MŠK Žilina. It is named after the hill Dubeň, adjacent to which it is located, and the name of the stadium literally means "Stadium under the Dubeň Hill." The capacity is 10,897 seats.

The Church of Saint Stephen the King is the oldest extant historical building located in Žilina, Slovakia.

The Budatín Castle (Slovak: Budatínsky zámok) is a castle in north-western Slovakia, near the city of Žilina, where the Kysuca river flows into the Váh river.

The Kysuca (Hungarian: Kiszuca) is a river in northern Slovakia. It is a right tributary to the Váh. The river gives name to the informal Kysuce region. It is 65.6 km (40.8 mi) long and its basin size is 1,038 km2 (401 sq mi).Its source is near the village of Makov. At first, the river flows in northeastern direction, where it flows around Javorníky on the right and Kysucké Beskydy mountains on the left side, passing through the town of Turzovka until the town of Čadca, where it turns south, between Javorníky on the right and Kysucká vrchovina mountains on the left side, passing Horelica, Krásno nad Kysucou, Kysucké Nové Mesto until it flows into the Váh in Žilina. In the valley of Kysuca south of Čadca, a railway and an international road (currently E75, in the future D3) passes through it.

Rajčanka or Rajčianka (Hungarian: Rajcsánka) is a river in northern Slovakia springing in Strážovské vrchy near Čičmany and pouring into Váh in Žilina. It is 46.6 km (29.0 mi) long and its basin size is 359 km2 (139 sq mi).It forms the border of Lúčanská Malá Fatra Mountains and of Strážovské vrchy. 32 km of its length are navigable. Cities along its course are: Rajec, Rajecké Teplice, Žilina.

Solinky is a town section of Žilina located in northwestern Slovakia, with about 10,000 inhabitants. The residential area consist mainly of low standard flats, although some modern houses have recently been built. There is a newly (2003) built Catholic church, as well as convenience stores and pubs. The supermarkets METRO, TESCO, LIDL and shopping center MAX are also located nearby. Solinky is home to famous Slovak personalities such as Žilina's ex-mayor Ján Slota and pop singer Tomáš Bezdeda.

Hôrky (Hungarian: Zsolnaberkes) is a village and municipality in Žilina District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia.
