Tiburon Ferry Terminal

Tiburon (; Spanish: Tiburón, [tiβuˈɾon]) is an incorporated town in Marin County, California. It is located on the Tiburon Peninsula, which reaches south into the San Francisco Bay. It shares a ZIP code (94920) with the smaller incorporated city of Belvedere (formerly a separate island), which occupies the southwest part of the peninsula and is contiguous with Tiburon. Tiburon is bordered by Corte Madera to the north and Mill Valley to the west, but is otherwise mostly surrounded by the bay. Besides Belvedere and Tiburon, much of the peninsula is unincorporated, including portions of the north side and the communities of Strawberry and Paradise Cay. The population of Tiburon was 9,146 at the 2020 census and has 6,600 registered voters. Belvedere and Tiburon share a post office, library and recreation agency.The city's name derives from the Spanish word tiburón, which means "shark". The name was first given to the peninsula on which the city is situated, and probably inspired by the prevalence of locally native leopard sharks in the surrounding waters. Tiburon was formerly the southern terminus of the San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad (subsequently the Northwestern Pacific Railroad), which transported freight for transfer to barges for shipping to cities around San Francisco Bay. It is now a commuter and tourist town, linked by fast ferry services to San Francisco and with a concentration of restaurants and clothes shops. It is the nearest mainland point to Angel Island and a regular ferry service connects to the island.

Corinthian Island is a former island in the San Francisco Bay, that was later attached to the mainland. It is in Marin County, California, by the Tiburon Peninsula. Its coordinates are 37°52′22″N 122°27′32″W, and the United States Geological Survey gave its elevation as 72 ft (22 m) in 1981. It appears on a 1950 USGS map of the area.

The Tiburon Railroad & Ferry Depot Museum is located at 1920 Paradise Drive, on the waterfront of Tiburon, California. It is located in the former San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad Station House/Depot, a Greek Revival building erected in 1886 by the San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad. Designed to be movable, the building has historically rested in several places, including a wharf, prior to its present location. The railroad removed its major rail and ferry passenger service to Sausalito about 1920, and usage of this building declined; it was abandoned by the railroad in 1939. It was donated to the town in 1989, and has since been restored for use as a museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

Old St. Hilary's Landmark is a former mission church place of worship and now a historic landmark owned and maintained by the Belvedere-Tiburon Landmarks Society, Tiburon Peninsula, Marin County, California, United States. The landmark is situated on the flank of the Tiburon Hills, an area characterized by serpentine soils and hence has a distinct plant community. The area surrounding the church is a Marin County protected area, the Old Saint Hilary's Open Space Preserve. The church building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2020.An endangered wildflower species, Streptanthus niger, commonly called the Tiburon jewelflower, grows near the church.

The Belvedere Tiburon Library is an independent public library serving the communities of Belvedere, Tiburon, and Strawberry, in California and it is operated by The Belvedere Tiburon Library Agency. It has as its mission the provision of library services now and in the future that will encourage and support a literate, enlightened and cultured community.The Tiburon Peninsula has had a library presence since 1895. Belvedere Tiburon joined as a branch of Marin County Free Libraries in 1929. The library ceased to be a branch in 1997, when it moved to its current location. The brand new 10,200 sq. ft. library building was built next to the new town hall to complete a civic center at the end of the peninsula. The library is a member of the Marin Automated Resources and Information Network (MARINet), a consortium of publicly funded libraries in Marin County. Deborah Mazzolini was the director of the Belvedere Tiburon Library from 1997 to 2022. She is succeeded by Crystal Duran. The architectural style is that of the 19th-century railroad yard in Tiburon, a nod to local history.

Belvedere is a residential incorporated city located on the San Francisco Bay in Marin County, California, United States. Consisting of two islands and a lagoon, it is connected to the Tiburon Peninsula by two causeways. At the 2020 census, the population was 2,126. The per-capita (per person) income of Belvedere residents in the year 2000 was $250,000, but currently the average income is $283,000, making it one of the highest-income cities in California and the eighth highest-income community in the United States (highest with a population of over 1,000 residents). Belvedere and Tiburon share a post office and the 94920 ZIP code.

The Raccoon Strait is a waterway of the San Francisco Bay between Angel Island and the Tiburon Peninsula, mainland Marin County, California, United States. During the ice ages, when sea levels were considerably lower and San Francisco Bay was a grassy valley, the combined Sacramento-San Joaquin river flowed through what is now Raccoon Strait before flowing through the canyon at the Golden Gate.

Old Saint Hilary's Open Space Preserve is a county park located in Marin County, California. It is 122 acres large and is connected to the Tiburon Uplands, which is 24 acres. The preserve was created by several local initiatives in the 90’s to save the land from development. It is a popular place for hikers because of its views and other features. There have been initiatives to expand the preserve, such as one that passed in 2022 that aims to connect it with undeveloped, but formerly privately owned land on its perimeter.

Belvedere Lagoon is an artificial lagoon on San Francisco Bay in Belvedere in Marin County, California. Narrow strips of land separate it from Richardson Bay (to the northwest) and Raccoon Strait. The lagoon is owned and maintained by the Belvedere Lagoon Property Owners' Association. The lagoon is not accessible by boat from San Francisco Bay, and no public access is provided. Until somewhat late in the 20th century houseboats were present in Belvedere Lagoon.There used to be a natural passage between the lagoon and the San Francisco Bay through the southern spit. The passage was spanned by a drawbridge. From the late 19th century, the drawbridge would be raised twice a year, once in the spring to allow pleasure boats of the Corinthian Yacht Club to exit the lagoon, where the boats wintered, and go to their summer moorings, and once in the fall, to allow the boats to return. This raising of the drawbridge signaled the beginning of the pleasure boat season. In 1917, that informal celebration morphed into a more formal and elaborate parade of boats that has now evolved into the Opening Day on the Bay involving the 104 clubs of the Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association.Belvedere Lagoon was partially filled after World War II to provide building sites for tract houses and to improve access to Belvedere Island. It was also once the site of a 9-hole golf course.

Belvedere Island (formerly, El Potrero de la Punta del Tiburon, Kashow's Island, Peninsula Island, Promontory Island, and Still Island) is a rocky island in the San Francisco Bay in Marin County, California which was formerly separated by a marsh from the mainland, though has since been linked by two spits. Part of the town of Belvedere, California is located on the island.

Ayala Cove is a ferry terminal on Angel Island in Marin County, California in the San Francisco Bay Area. There is regularly scheduled passenger ferry service to Tiburon as well as San Francisco. Service is provided by the Angel Island - Tiburon Ferry and takes 15 minutes crossing Racoon Strait to Tiburon Ferry Terminal. Golden Gate Ferry operates ferries to the San Francisco Ferry Building.
