Westfield Doncaster

Doncaster ( DONK-ah-stər) is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 18 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Manningham local government area. Doncaster recorded a population of 25,020 at the 2021 census.The suburb, which is situated on 8.9 km2 of land, around the top of the 120 m high Doncaster Hill. The suburb consists of a central area along the top of Doncaster Hill, which includes several historical buildings along Doncaster Road, the Westfield Doncaster Shopping Centre and surrounding high-rise apartments, while the rest of the suburb is typical of many of Melbourne's eastern suburbs, with extensive low-density housing. It has lots of schools and there is a planned railway station for Doncaster. Currently residents need to travel to Box Hill to get on the train towards the city.

The City of Doncaster & Templestowe was a local government area located about 20 kilometres (12 mi) east-northeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The city covered an area of 89.42 square kilometres (34.53 sq mi), and existed from 1915 until 1994. At its peak in the early 1990s, it had a population of just over 100,000.

Doncaster Secondary College is a secondary school located in the Melbourne suburb of Doncaster. Founded on 5 February 1969, the school adopts a non-selective enrolment policy and caters for over 1500 students from Year 7 to 12 – making it the largest high school in the city of Manningham. Senior students have access to a comprehensive Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) curriculum in addition to Vocational Education and Training (VET) and the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) units. The College is characterised by its diverse student population with a representation of nearly fifty nationalities, incorporating the 70 full fee-paying international students enrolled in the International Student Program. The majority of international students are from China, Korea and Southeast Asia. 33% of the student body speaks a language other than English at home.Doncaster Secondary College is affiliated with School Sports Victoria (SSV) and competes within the Eastern Zone at regional sporting events including athletics, soccer, basketball and swimming.

Winter Park is a housing estate designed by award winning architect Graeme Gunn and developed by both Rob White and Merchant designers. It is located at 131-147 High Street, Doncaster, Victoria and is in 2.43 hectares in size. The design consists of twenty detached houses and was constructed in two stages between 1970 and 1974. Gunn’s residential project is described as “an outstanding example of careful design extended into a consideration of the importance of landscape and open space and, ultimately, the presence and feel of a place”.

The Doncaster railway line was a long-proposed suburban railway in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, that was anticipated to be built before December 2027, as a branch, along with the Hurstbridge line, of the planned future Clifton Hill Loop Line, as part of the 2013 PTV Network Development Plan.The Doncaster line would have primarily served the suburbs of Bulleen, Balwyn North, Kew, Templestowe and Doncaster, running along the median strip of the Eastern Freeway for most of its length. First proposed in 1890, detailed planning commenced in 1969, and by 1972 the route was decided upon. Despite rising costs, the state governments of the period continued to make assurances that the line would be built. Property acquisition for part of the route was completed in 1975, and construction of a cutting at the city end commenced in 1974, only to be filled in two years later. By 1982 plans to build the line were shelved by the state government, and by 1984 land for the line once it left the freeway was sold by the Cain Labor government. In 1991 an independent report investigated constructing the line, recommending against it due to the high cost. However several other reports released since the 1970s detail the essential requirement for heavy rail mass transit in the Doncaster corridor. The Doncaster rail line plan is almost identical to the Joondalup line, completed in 1992, and the Mandurah line, completed in 2007, both in Perth, a city with less than half the population of Melbourne. The Mandurah line runs along the centre median of the Kwinana Freeway and through various tunnels. It is almost double the length of the proposed Doncaster line and cost 1.6 billion; trains are able to travel at up to 130 km/h. In 2017-18, as part of the proposed North East Link road project, the median of the Eastern Freeway is set to be removed as part of an upgrade with the addition of a new busway alongside the freeway. This means a rail line to Doncaster along the Eastern Freeway is unlikely to go ahead in the future. However a train service through Doncaster has continued to be proposed as part of the northern section of the Suburban Rail Loop.

The Presbyterian Theological College (PTC) is the theological college of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. It provides theological education for candidates for the ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, as well as for members of other Christian churches. It is an approved teaching institution of the Australian College of Theology and is based in the Melbourne suburb of Box Hill. The Presbyterian Theological College is an Evangelical and Reformed college which teaches in accordance with the doctrine of the Presbyterian Church of Australia.

Ruffey Lake Park (locally Ruffeys) is a park in the City of Manningham, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is situated around Ruffey Lake in a portion of a valley through which the Ruffey Creek runs, forming the border between Doncaster and Templestowe. It has three main entrances, Victoria St, The Boulevard and King St. Despite being the second-largest park in Manningham, second to Westerfolds Park, it is the biggest urban park managed by the City of Manningham. It is approximately 68 hectares (170 acres) in size. Formerly orchards, the park has a diverse ecology; this includes a riparian strip of native bushland around the creek, areas of pine trees planted by early settlers and pockets of fruit trees remaining from past orchards. The park is named after Ruffey Creek, a watercourse that runs through the park which was dammed to irrigate the surrounding orchards, forming Ruffey Lake. During the summer, the park hosts the annual Manningham Carols by Candlelight.

Koonung Secondary College is a secondary state school in Mont Albert North, Victoria, in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. The school takes its name from the nearby Koonung Creek. Its school catchment includes the suburbs of Mont Albert, Mont Albert North, Balwyn, Balwyn North, Doncaster, Box Hill, Box Hill North, Surrey Hills and Burwood.On 13 June 2019, it received a grant of $6.05 million to improve its facilities.

Koonung Creek (or Koonung Koonung Creek) is a small tributary of the Yarra River in Melbourne's east. The creek originates in Nunawading near Springvale Road, and flows to join the Yarra at the border between Ivanhoe East, Bulleen and Balwyn North. The place the two waterways meet forms the borders between these suburbs. Bushy Creek (now carried by an underground pipe) is a tributary to the creek, joining near Elgar Park in Mont Albert North. A shared use path follows the course of the creek (and therefore also the Freeway), known as the Koonung Creek Trail. Melbourne Water rates the condition of the creek as 'Very Poor'. Also according to Melbourne Water, the river is the unhealthiest waterway in Melbourne. Melbourne Water's monitoring station for the creek at Bulleen Road in Bulleen, detected an average E. coli count of 1800, this is nine times the safe swimming level (200). This was the highest level of E. coli measured in all of metropolitan Melbourne's waterways. The poor condition of the creek has been evident from the earliest days of European settlement. Five species of frog call the creek home, these are the Common Eastern Froglet, the Spotted Marsh Frog, the Striped Marsh Frog, the Eastern or Pobblebonk Frog and the Southern Brown or Ewing's Tree Frog. The Eastern Freeway follows the path of the creek within the band of parkland that adjoins the creek over its entire length.

Doncaster Park and Ride is a park and ride bus station and future busway station located in Melbourne, Australia. It serves the suburb of Doncaster and situates next to the Eastern Freeway, and opened in January 2003. On some official sources and signage of the station, the "and" in its name is replaced by a "+" symbol, making it Doncaster Park + Ride.

Templestowe Lower is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 14 km northeast of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Manningham local government area. Templestowe Lower recorded a population of 14,098 at the 2021 census. Its name reflects the fact that Lower Templestowe is situated on the Yarra River, but downstream from the neighbouring suburb of Templestowe. It is bounded in the west by Rose Avenue, Russell Street and Sheahans Road, in the north by the Yarra River, in the east by Ruffey Creek and Williamsons Road and in the south generally by Manningham Road. It is home to primary schools and a secondary school; Templestowe Secondary College. Like neighbouring Templestowe, it is poorly serviced by public transportation, lying geographically between three existing rail lines (Hurstbridge and Lilydale/Belgrave). An excellent and frequent bus service exists, running from Lower Templestowe into the city or to the nearest train lines.

Berengarra School is a school in the suburb of Box Hill North, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Berengarra School is a specialist independent secondary school for students in Years 7–12. The school is non-denominational and co-educational for students with social and emotional challenges.. Berengarra provides innovative educational programmes to meet the individual needs of these students, who have a variety of social and emotional problems. The school has a new program called Pathways in Chadstone which offers a transitional program to students moving into apprenticeships and areas of further Technical and further education.
