The Garfield Groundwater Contamination site is a Superfund site located in Garfield, New Jersey. The site was formally occupied by E.C Electroplating, an electroplating company that used chromic acid solution in their products. In 1983, a tank at the E.C Electroplating property malfunctioned and spilled chromic acid into the groundwater underneath the property that subsequently spread to the surrounding area. The contamination presented a health risk to Garfield residents in the area due to exposure to hexavalent chromium, a toxic form of chromium. The site was designated a Superfund site in 2011. Cleanup of the site is ongoing as of 2022.

Immaculate Conception High School (ICHS) is an American private, Roman Catholic, all-girls college-preparatory high school located in Lodi, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The school operates under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. The school was founded in 1915 by the Felician Sisters. ICHS has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1961.As of the 2019–20 school year, the school had an enrollment of 145 students and 17.8 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 8.1:1. The school's student body was 62.1% (90) White, 26.2% (38) Hispanic, 10.3% (15) Black and 1.4% (2) Asian. Average class size is 15 students. The administration, faculty and staff consist of three Felician Sisters, 19 women, and 8 men. About 98% of seniors pursue higher education.

Garfield is a New Jersey Transit train station served by the Bergen County Line in the city of Garfield. Located north of a trestle over Midland Avenue (County Route 67), the station consists of two low-level platforms with a shelter and a pair of ticket vending machines. Garfield station has hourly weekday inbound service to Hoboken Terminal/Secaucus Junction until the afternoon, with the last train leaving Garfield before 4:00 pm. Return service continues all day, with the last train stopping at approximately 1:00 am. Weekend service operates on a more frequent basis inbound.

Plauderville is a NJ Transit train station located in Garfield, New Jersey, United States, served by the Bergen County Line. The station is in the north side of the city on Midland Avenue between Plauderville Avenue and Outwater Lane. The station is a full-service station as of April 2012, and has high-level platforms making the station accessible for people with disabilities. Starting in 2009, with money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, New Jersey Transit received funds to construct high-level platforms at Plauderville on the south side of Midland Avenue. Trains used the low-level platform until October 10, 2011, when trains were moved to the completed high-level platforms. The new high-level platform station was constructed by Anselmi & DeCicco, Inc. of Maplewood, New Jersey.

The township was created on February 21, 1893, from the southern section of Lodi Township (now South Hackensack): Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of Portion to be the State of New Jersey, That all that portion of the township of Lodi, in the county of Bergen, lying within the following boundaries, to wit, beginning at the intersection Boundaries, of the northerly boundary of the township of Boiling Springs, in the county of Bergen, with the middle of the Passaic river; running thence easterly along the northerly boundary of said township of Boiling Springs to the middle of the Hackensack River; thence, northerly along the middle of the Hackensack river to a point opposite the mouth of a creek emptying into said river, commonly known as the Upper Mudabock creek; thence, westerly in a straight line to a point where the northerly line of the public road leading from Moonachie to Wood-Ridge, commonly known as the Mousetown road, intersects the westerly line of the public road commonly known as the Moonachie road; thence, westerly along the northerly line of the Mousetown road to the westerly line of the Riser ditch; thence, northerly along the westerly line of said ditch to the northerly line of lands now or formerly belonging to the estate of Richard Vreeland; thence, westerly along said line of lands to the Polifly road; thence, still westerly in the same course as last described, along the northerly line of lands now or formerly belonging to the estate of Benjamin Cox to a line commonly known as the Polifly line; thence, northerly along said line to the southerly line of the public road leading from said Polifly road to the public road commonly known as the River road; thence westerly along the southerly line of said road leading from the Polifly road to the River road; thence, still westerly in line with the last course of the southerly line of said road to the middle of the Saddle river; thence, downstream through the middle of the Saddle river to the middle of the Passaic thence, down stream through the middle of said to the place of beginning, shall be and hereby is set off from the township Lodi, in the county of Bergen, and made a separate township, to be known by the name of the township of Bergen. Another township with the same name, Bergen Township, was created 200 years earlier. The borough of Carlstadt was formed on June 27, 1894, from portions of the township, at the height of the Boroughitis phenomenon then sweeping through Bergen County.The borough of Wood-Ridge was created on December 6, 1894, from within the township, followed shortly thereafter by the borough of Wallington, which was formed on January 2, 1895, from portions of both Bergen Township and of Saddle River Township (now Saddle Brook).On April 8, 1902, Bergen Township was dissolved and the remaining territory was reabsorbed by Lodi Township.

The Passaic Street Bridge is a vehicular bridge crossing the Passaic River in Passaic and Garfield, New Jersey. The girder bridge was built in 1898 and is the third to span the river at that point. It is considered eligible for listing on the New Jersey Register of Historic Places and National Register of Historic Places.

Monroe Street Bridge is bridge over the Passaic River in Passaic and Garfield, New Jersey. The 3-span reinforced concrete elliptical deck arch bridge was built in 1908. It was designed by Colin Wise and built by C.W. Dean and Company. It is 306 feet long and 30.2 feet wide.

Garfield High School is a four-year public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades from Garfield, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, operating as the lone secondary school of the Garfield Public Schools. As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,120 students and 104.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 10.8:1. There were 517 students (46.2% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 142 (12.7% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.
