St Chad's Church, Claughton

Claughton ( KLAF-tən) is a small village and civil parish in the City of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. The village is on the A683 road east of Lancaster and at the time of the 2001 census had a population of 132. In the 2011 census Claughton was grouped with Roeburndale (2001 pop. 76) to give a total of 223.North of the village is the River Lune, and to the south is Claughton Moor and the fells of the Forest of Bowland.

Claughton railway station served the village of Claughton in the City of Lancaster district of Lancashire, England. The station was located near Low Lane at a level crossing, but was only in service for a short period (passenger traffic ceasing as early as May 1853). A private goods siding serving the nearby brickworks was laid soon after the 1923 Grouping by the LMS. The line remained in use until closure to passengers in 1966 between Wennington and Morecambe Promenade. Freight services finished the following year in June 1967 and the track was then dismantled. The formation has since been returned to agricultural land east of Caton. The station house survives as a private residence.

Claughton Hall (Claughton pronounced KLAF-tən) is a large country house in the English village of Claughton, Lancashire. A Grade I listed building, it dates to around 1600, but it contains material believed to be from the 15th century.The building was moved to its present site, from the bottom of the hill on which it sits, in 1932–33. It is built in sandstone with stone-slate roofs. At each end of the north front are tall projecting towers; the left tower is gabled, and the right tower has a hipped roof. In the top storey of both towers are continuous mullioned and transomed windows. The recessed section between them contains two chimneys on corbels, and a doorway flanked by three-light windows, and with an oriel window above.It has been the home of former Blackpool F.C. owner Owen Oyston since the 1970s. Oyston was found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl at the property in 1996.

The River Wenning is a tributary of the River Lune, flowing through North Yorkshire and Lancashire. The Wenning is formed from the confluence of Clapham Beck, which rises above Clapham, and Austwick Beck, which rises in Crummackdale above Austwick. It then flows westwards through High Bentham, Low Bentham and Wennington.The river flows for 14.09 miles (22.67 km) and drains an area of 24.9 square miles (64.6 km2). It joins the River Lune approximately 1 mile (1.5 km) west of Hornby. This river's valley, together with Airedale, Wharfedale and upper Ribblesdale, make up the district of Craven.

Gressingham is a small village and civil parish in the City of Lancaster in the English county of Lancashire. It is north of the River Lune and across the river from Hornby. In the 2001 census, it had a population of 153, decreasing slightly to 151 at the 2011 census.St John the Evangelist's Church was originally built in the 12th century and is a Grade I listed building. It was partly rebuilt in 1734, and restored by Edward Paley in 1862.The Gressingham Duck was named after the village of Gressingham, having been first bred here in 1980 from a cross of mallards and Pekin ducks. However, the exclusive right to breed Gressingham Ducks was bought by Gressingham Foods in 1996, and the ducks they now produce are all from their farms in East Anglia.

Hornby railway station served the village of Hornby in the City of Lancaster district of Lancashire, England. The station was located in a cutting off Station Road and was constructed by the "Little" North Western Railway' opening with the line in November 1849 (though through traffic towards Skipton and beyond didn't commence until the following summer). The line eastwards towards Wennington was doubled soon after opening but westwards to Lancaster, it remained single track until 1889. It was closed to passenger traffic in September 1957 by the British Transport Commission due to declining usage. The line remained in use until closure to passengers in January 1966 between Wennington and Morecambe. Freight services finished the following year in June 1967 and the line was later dismantled. Much of the route has since been returned to agricultural use. The station site is now occupied by a housing development, though the formation either side can still be traced.

The parish is about 8.5 miles (13.7 km) north-east of Lancaster and consists of two villages: Hornby and Farleton, both on the A683 road. The parish was formed 24 March 1887 from the parishes of "Hornby" and "Farleton".

The village is on the A683 and at the confluence of the River Wenning and Lune In 2011 the built up area had a population of 468. In 1881 the parish had a population of 358.
