The Costa Brava (Catalan: [ˈkɔstə ˈβɾaβə]; Spanish: [ˈkosta ˈβɾaβa]; "Wild Coast" or "Rough Coast") is a coastal region of Catalonia in northeastern Spain. Sources differ on the exact definition of the Costa Brava. Usually it can be regarded as stretching from the town of Blanes, 60 km (37 mi) northeast of Barcelona, to the French border – in other words it consists of the coast of the province of Girona. In the 1950s, the Costa Brava was identified by the Spanish government and local entrepreneurs as being suitable for substantial development as a holiday destination, mainly for package holiday tourists from Europe. The combination of a very good summer climate, nature, excellent beaches and a favourable foreign exchange rate (before the creation of the single European currency), which made the Costa Brava an attractive tourist destination, was exploited by the construction of large numbers of hotels and apartments in such seaside resorts as Blanes, Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar. Tourism rapidly took over from fishing as the principal business of the area.

The Montgrí Castle (Catalan: Castell del Montgrí) is a historical edifice in Torroella de Montgrí, Catalonia, Spain, built between 1294 and 1301. Its reason to be was the existing conflict between the counts of Empúries - who ruled over most of the area around the town - and the counts of Barcelona, the most powerful of Catalonia at that time, who also had great power over the Mediterranean. In order to control the moves of the counts of Empuriés, the court of Barcelona commanded Bernat de Llabià, the governor of the Royal town of Torroella de Montgrí, to supervise the building of a fortress on top of the Montgrí Massif. Work started in 1294 but the fortress was never completed as is obvious today. After those days, the fortress has lost its strategic value but has instead become a symbol of the region. The GR 92 long distance footpath, which roughly follows the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, passes the castle on its stage between Sant Martí d'Empúries and Torroella de Montgrí.

The Battle of Torroella, also known as Battle of the river Ter, took place during the Nine Years' War, on 27 May 1694 along the banks and fords of the Ter River near the Puente Mayor in the vicinity of the important town of Girona, Catalonia, Spain.

The Palau Solterra houses the Contemporary Photography Museum of the Fundació Vila Casas (national and international) located in the town of Torroella de Montgrí in the Baix Empordà region of Catalonia. It was opened in 2000. The collection comprises some 300 contemporary photographs with works by artists from around the world, including Chema Madoz, Alberto García Álix, Toni Catany and Otto Lloyd. In addition to the centre's permanent collection, temporary exhibitions and a cycle of conferences on history and humanities are held annually. Related with the building, the Palau Solterra is a 15th-century palatial mansion that was once the residence of the Counts of Torroella de Montgrí.

The Palau Solterra Museum is one of the cultural centers of the Vila Casas Foundation located, located in the palace of the same name in Torroella de Montgrí (Girona), a town of the Baix Empordà region. It opened in 2000, and nowadays it houses about three hundred contemporary photographs of the city, artists from various parts of the world, including Chema Madoz, Alberto García Álix, Toni Catany, Otto Lloyd, Xavier Miserachs, Ouka Lele and Frank Horvat, among many others. Annual exhibitions are organized and a series of conferences on history and humanities.

Sa Riera, Catalonia, Spain is a fishing village and holiday resort situated in a tranquil and secluded bay of the Costa Brava close to the nearby inland towns of Palafrugell and Begur. It can be reached by road from Begur and Pals and there is also a pleasant walk around the cliffs from Platja de Pals, the next resort along the coast. Sa Riera is typical of the many small coves set amongst rugged pine covered cliffs cascading down to meet the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea which have made the area north of Palamos and south of L'Estartit famous for its outstanding beauty. Originally a small fishing village, Sa Riera has not been overdeveloped and has retained its individuality and charm. Sa Riera has a beach that is sheltered and particularly popular in the summer months. There is also good snorkelling around the craggy rocks. There are some small hotels and good seafood restaurants, small cafes & bars.

The Museum of the Mediterranean is a museum located in Torroella de Montgrí, founded in 2003, in an attempt to become an area for knowledge, reflection and research for the problems and worries that affect citizens in the 21st century. It is housed in Can Quintana, a 16th-century building. It is dedicated to the knowledge and communication of the Mediterranean Sea and uses the natural sounds, human sounds and music to show the reality of the land, the history and the culture of the village of Torroella, connected with the others Mediterranean cultures and towns. It pretends to become a site to think about the nearest territory and the main issues that affect the different Mediterranean nations. It is also an Interpretation Centre of the Natural Park of Montgrí, Medes Islands and Lower Ter. Besides, it hosts the Documentation Centre of Montgrí, Medes Islands and Lower Ter and the Academic Chair of Littoral Mediterranean Ecosystems.

The Montgrí (Catalan pronunciation: [muŋˈɡɾi]) is a small mountain range in Catalonia, on the north bank of the Ter river. It is part of the Catalan Coastal Range and its highest point is 311 m.

L'Escala (Catalan pronunciation: [ləsˈkalə]) is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Empordà in Girona, Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the Costa Brava, located between the southern end of the Gulf of Roses and Cala (bay) Montgó. It is an important fishing port and tourist centre, and has a festival dedicated to its famous anchovies. The GE-513 road runs inland from the town. The Alfolí de la Sal, also known as the Pòsit Vell, is a seventeenth-century warehouse formerly used to store the salt necessary to preserve fish landed at the port: it is now a protected historic-artistic monument. The ruins of Empúries are located on the territory of the municipality, with Phoenician and Roman remains dating from 580 BC. L'Escala is the village of Víctor Català (pseudonym of Caterina Albert, 1869-1966) a famous novelist. Sant Pau de Fontclara is a parish church and former Benedictine monastery in the village of Fontclara, Palau-sator, Girona Province, Catalonia, Spain. It was formerly dependent on Lagrasse Abbey.

Ca la Pruna is a 16th-century fortified house, in the town of Pals (Baix Empordà region). It is included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.
