Rio de Janeiro/Galeão–Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (IATA: GIG, ICAO: SBGL), popularly known by its original name Galeão International Airport, is the main airport serving Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The airport was originally named after the neighborhood of Galeão: Praia do Galeão (Galleon Beach) is located in front of the original passenger terminal (the present passenger terminal of the Brazilian Air Force). This beach is the location where the galleon Padre Eterno was built in 1663. On January 5, 1999 the name was changed adding a tribute to the Brazilian musician Antonio Carlos Jobim. Galeão Airport is explicitly mentioned in his composition Samba do Avião. Since August 12, 2014 the airport has been operated by the concessionary Rio Galeão, a consortium formed by the Brazilian investor Odebrecht and Changi Airport Group, with a minority participation of the government owned company Infraero, the previous operator. The new concessionary has been using the brand name RIOgaleão–Aeroporto Internacional Tom Jobim.Some of its facilities are shared with the Galeão Air Force Base of the Brazilian Air Force.

The Baixada massacre (Chacina da Baixada in Portuguese), was a violent incident that occurred in Baixada Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on March 31, 2005. A group of police officers entered the Vigário Geral favela (shantytown) in the Baixada Fluminense region of Rio de Janeiro in pursuit of suspected drug traffickers. During the operation, the police officers indiscriminately opened fire on civilians, resulting in the deaths of at least 29 people. Many of the victims were unarmed, including women and children, and some were killed in their own homes. The Baixada massacre was one of the deadliest incidents in a wave of police violence that occurred in Rio de Janeiro during the 1990s. It sparked widespread public outrage and led to calls for police reform and greater accountability for law enforcement officials. The incident also highlighted the broader issue of police brutality and human rights violations in Brazil.

Estádio Mourão Vieira Filho, usually known as Estádio da Rua Bariri, is a football stadium in Olaria neighborhood, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The stadium has a maximum capacity of 8,300 people. It was built in 1947. Estádio da Rua Bariri is owned by Olaria Atlético Clube. The stadium is named after Mourão Vieira Filho, who was an alderman (vereador, in Portuguese language) and is the one who made possible the stadium construction. Bariri means rapid in a Tupi–Guarani language, and is the name of the street where the stadium is located. The stadium is often rented to the big clubs of Rio de Janeiro, especially Flamengo, when they are not able to play at the Maracanã stadium.
