Mauldslie Woods

Mauldslie Castle, part of the Mauldslie Estate, was located in Dalserf, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. The nearby village of Rosebank was established before 1816 by the estate's workers.

Mauldslie Bridge is a three-segmental-arch bridge in Dalserf, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It crosses the River Clyde between the A72 road and the former location of Mauldslie Castle. Built in 1861, and now a Category A listed structure, the bridge is believed to be the work of David Bryce. Mauldslie Castle West Lodge and archway stands at the western end of the bridge. They are listed separately at Historic Environment Scotland.The bridge was built for James Hozier, 2nd Baron Newlands, to serve Mauldslie Castle, built by the Thomas, 5th Earl of Hyndford, in 1793. The castle was demolished in 1935. A seated-dog motif above the gate, which appears with an inscription of "Aye Ready", can also be found in the garden of the Marna gate lodge, to the south. That also is a listed structure.Winston Churchill has crossed the bridge, to attend gatherings of Scottish gentry.Repairs began on the bridge in 2019, with the hope of preserving it for future generations.

Mauldslie Castle West Lodge is a 19th-century gatehouse in Dalserf, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. A Category A listed building, it was completed in 1861, believed to be the work of David Bryce.The adjoining Mauldslie Bridge, a separate listing, was built for James Hogier, of Newlands, to serve Mauldslie Castle, built by Thomas, 5th Earl of Hyndford, in 1793. The castle was demolished in 1935. A seated-dog motif above the gate, which appears with an inscription of "Aye Ready", can also be found in the garden of the Marna gate lodge, to the south. That also is a listed structure.Hogier's initials appear on the eastern elevation of the gatehouse.

Rosebank is a small hamlet situated in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. With a population of around 200, Rosebank is one of the least-populated settlements in South Lanarkshire. The hamlet is situated on the banks of the River Clyde, and was constructed by Lord Newlands of Mauldslie Castle (which stood in the Mauldslie Woods area across the Clyde) for estate workers.Rosebank does not have many features of note, with a handful of garden centres making up most of the hamlet (including the largest independent garden centre in the Clyde Valley area). However, the hamlet is home to the Popinjay Hotel, built by Lord Newlands in 1882 near the supposed site of the popinjay archery contest featured in Walter Scott's novel Old Mortality. It is now a large hotel that caters for tourists to Scotland and also serves nearby large settlements such as Glasgow.

Dalserf is a small village of only a few streets in South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It lies on the River Clyde, 2 miles (3 km) east of Larkhall and 7 miles (11 km) south east of Hamilton. Dalserf is also a traditional civil parish. It includes Ashgill, Larkhall, Netherburn, Rosebank and Shawsburn. The parish has a population of 17,985 (mostly from Larkhall's near 15,500 population). The name of the village comes from the Gaelic dail, meaning "field", and Serf, the name of a 6th-century saint who dwelt here. Of old, it was also known as Machan or Machanshire, from the Gaelic Maghan meaning "small plain". The village kirk, built in 1655, is dedicated to Saint Serf, and may be built on the site of an early church founded by him. The church dates from The Killing Time, when the rebel Covenanters were persecuted for their faith, and was a centre of Covenanter activity. John M'Millan, the controversial preacher and first post-Revolution minister of the United Societies, is buried in the kirkyard. The kirk is Category A listed. A ferry once operated across the Clyde at Dalserf, although this has long since been superseded by the nearby Garrion Bridge. Dalserf railway station once served the village.

Waterloo is a small suburb in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located on the A71 Edinburgh-Irvine road. Originally a village in its own right, it is now considered to be a suburb of Wishaw. It does not have many local services of note, however, it is home to the Indian Restaurant, The Pink Turban.

Edinburgh the Walk (stylized Edinburgh THE WALK), is a guidebook by Roddy McDougall and Elizabeth May. It describes a long-distance footpath linking the parks, green spaces and hills of Scotland's capital city. The book outlines a 69 kilometres (43 mi) long route which is divided into eight sections. While not currently waymarked, it follows parts of several long-established walking routes in the city - John Muir Way, Water of Leith Walkway, River Almond, Lothian Walkway as well as paths created from the city's former railway lines. It is intended to be for Edinburgh what the Capital Ring is for London - a walking route which leads through different parts of the city which might not otherwise be visited. The book highlights the geology, architecture and arts of Edinburgh beyond its better-known centre including some of those who have contributed to the city's history - novelist and poet Sir Walter Scott, geologist and writer Hugh Miller, geologist James Hutton and the Duke of Buccleuch. The route starts at Edinburgh Castle and heads north east towards the port of Leith before going alongside the southern shore of the Firth of Forth. From there it turns inland at Cramond and heads south over Corstorphine Hill towards Craiglockhart Hill.The route then takes in the summits of Braid Hills and Blackford Hill before heading towards Craigmillar Castle. It then leads north towards the seaside resort of Portobello, Edinburgh before climbing up to the city's highest point, the extinct volcano Arthur's Seat. The route ends at the gates to Holyrood Palace beside the Scottish Parliament Building. Travel-writer Richard Franks completed the whole walk in three and a half days. The route was also featured on 'Out of Doors' on BBC Radio Scotland in August 2022. Each section of the route begins and ends with access to public transport.

The Clyde Walkway is a foot and mountain bike path which runs from Glasgow, Scotland, to just above the UNESCO World Heritage Site of New Lanark. The path runs close to the River Clyde for most of its length. It was completed in 2005, and is now designated as one of Scotland's Great Trails by NatureScot. The route is 65 kilometres (40 mi) long, and combines rural sections on the upper Clyde in South Lanarkshire, including the Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserve and the Falls of Clyde, with urban walking through the centre of Glasgow. About 155,000 people use the path every year, of whom about 7,750 undertake multi-day journeys including those covering the entire route.

Overtown is a village in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located to the east of the River Clyde, about 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Wishaw. Originally developed as a mining village in the 19th century, its population declined after the closure of the coal mines and the associated railways in the 1950s.The village only has a few buildings of note, Clyde Valley High School, which is located to the North-West, and Overtown Primary School. Overtown also has a community centre, a parish Church which serves as a focal point for the community and a small number of independent shops and takeaway restaurants. A "First Glasgow" (the former "Hutchison") bus depot is located in the village. The A71 road, that links Edinburgh with Ayrshire, passes through Overtown. The road is the main street of the village. It is located on the edge of the Clyde Valley, and is only 1 mile (1.6 kilometres) away from Garrion Bridge. The West Coast Main Line also passes through the village, but no passenger service trains stop there.

Garrion Bridge is a small hamlet spanning the border between North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire, Scotland. It is located on the banks of the Clyde Valley, 18 miles (29 km) south-east of Glasgow. The hamlet is most commonly associated with the nearby town of Wishaw.

Law is a village situated between Carluke and Wishaw in South Lanarkshire, Scotland with a population of around 2,800. The village lies on the border of North Lanarkshire. Law is a former mining village, now mainly a low density residential area. For a village so small, Law has a wide range of services, which include Law Community Centre, Scotmid, Post Office, The Auld Store village bar, Boots Pharmacy, Dario's Takeaway, a Barbers, Law Bowling Club, the Room and Kitchen (coffee shop) and various other services, the majority of which can be found on Station Road, the village's main street. Law Parish Church can be found on Station Road. The church is part of the Church of Scotland (Presbyterian) and seeks to provide spiritual and pastoral care to anyone in the parish, church member or not, who requires it. A variety of organisations take place in the church for people of all ages including a very large and well run Boys' Brigade and Girls' Brigade. Law Primary School has about 300 pupils and with older pupils going on to attend Carluke High School 4 miles (6 km) away. Irvine's Coaches was a bus company based in the village that ran services throughout Lanarkshire and surrounding areas, but have now ceased trading. The West Coast Main Line runs through the Village but the station was closed down several years ago. However, there has been much speculation that it may be reopened in future, due to the proposed building of many new homes on the old site of Law Hospital. If re-opened, cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh could be accessible from Law by train. Law Hospital, on the outskirts of Law Village, closed in 2001, with all patients being sent to Wishaw General Hospital, located in the Craigneuk area of Wishaw. There was an ambulance station on the site of the hospital but since 2001, the Scottish Ambulance Service opened a new one next door to Davie Buildbase on Wildman Road, which is the entrance road to the village from Wishaw.

Overtown railway station, also known as Overtown Road railway station, served the village of Overtown, North Lanarkshire, Scotland from 1843 to 1942 on the Wishaw and Coltness Railway.
