The Lighthouse of Praia da Barra, also known as the Aveiro Lighthouse (Portuguese: Farol de Aveiro/Farol da Praia da Barra), is an active lighthouse in the civil parish of Gafanha da Nazaré, municipality of Ílhavo, in the Portuguese district of Aveiro. Situated on the coastal Praia da Barra, at the southern margin of the Ria de Aveiro, it is the tallest lighthouse in Portugal, with a height of 203 feet (62 m) overseeing the barrier beach and exposed to Atlantic storms. It is open to the public and visits are held on Wednesdays from 14:00 to 17:00.

Gafanha da Nazaré (Portuguese pronunciation: [ɡɐˈfɐɲɐ ðɐ nɐzɐˈɾɛ]) is a city and parish (freguesia) in the Ílhavo Municipality, in Portugal. The population in 2011 was 15,240, in an area of 16.44 km2.Gafanha da Nazaré is a coastal town at the northern end of its municipality, and is an important port center that includes the Coastal Fishing Port and the Port of Aveiro. On August 31, 1910, was founded the parish of Gafanha da Nazaré by the Prior Sardo and received royal decree from the King Manuel II, published in Diário do Governo no. 206 on September 16, 1910, the last portuguese town to receive a royal recognition. On October 29, 1969, it was elevated to a town, and on April 19, 2001, it was elevated to a city.

The Barra de Aveiro Fort (Forte da Barra de Aveiro in Portuguese) also known as Gafanha Castle (Castelo da Gafanha in Portuguese), Forte Pombalino, Forte Novo or , is located on an island adjacent to Ilha da Mó do Meio, parish of Gafanha da Nazaré, municipality of Ílhavo, district of Aveiro, in Portugal.

The Bridge of Praia da Barra (Portuguese: Ponte de Praia da Barra) is a modern bridge, situated over a confluence of the Ria Aveiro, in the civil parish of Gafanha da Nazaré, municipality of Ílhavo, in the Portuguese district of Aveiro. The bridge is situated on the western coast of Portugal, in the district of Aveiro, where the Ria Aveiro connects to the Atlantic Ocean. To the south is the beach of Costa Nova do Prado and north by the beach of São Jacinto. Nearby is the lighthouse of Ponte da Barra and coastal seawall, that delimits the 500 metres (1,600 ft) southern entrance to the port of Aveiro. The breakwater separates the northern and southern beaches, is close to the Church of the Sagrada Família and campsite of Barra, that belong to the tourist route of Luz/Centro.

The Boco (Portuguese: Rio Boco, Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈʁiu ˈboku]) is a river in Portugal. It flows into the Ria de Aveiro at the Aveiro Lagoon through the Ílhavo Channel (Portuguese: Canal de Ílhavo).

The Pousada da Ria (Portuguese: Pousada da Ria/Pousada of Murtosa) is situated in the civil parish of Torreira in the municipality of Murtosa, district of Aveiro. It is part of the Pousadas de Portugal network of hostels, classified under the "Pousada of Nature" designation.

Vouga River (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈvoɣɐ]) is a river in the Centro Region of Portugal.' The source of the Vouga is the Chafariz da Lapa, at an elevation of 864 metres (2,835 ft), in the parish of Quintela, municipality of Sernancelhe, Viseu District. The course of the river ends in the Atlantic Ocean, in the form of a ria, the Ria de Aveiro.

The Aveiro lagoon (Ria de Aveiro) is a lagoon in Portugal. It is located on the Atlantic coast of Portugal, south of the municipality of Espinho and north of Mira (to the north of the Cape Mondego). Its average area covers approximately 75 square kilometres (29 sq mi). It is named after the city of Aveiro, which is the chief urban centre located near to the lagoon. Other urban centres near the Ria de Aveiro are Ílhavo, Gafanha da Nazaré, Estarreja, Ovar and Esmoriz. Some beaches nearby include those of Barra, Costa Nova, Torreira, Vagueira, Furadouro, Cortegaça and Praia de Mira. There are also beaches in the São Jacinto Peninsula. The Aveiro Lagoon is beyond a mere geographical feature of Portugal. This 45 kilometres (28 mi) long lagoon stands as one of Europe's last remaining untouched coastal marshland. It is also a haven for numerous bird species. The locals call this rich lagoon Ria de Aveiro. Tourism and aquaculture are the mainstay of the Aveiro Lagoon region. It is also renowned for its artisan fishing and as a center for the collection of flor de sal, an expensive salt variety.

Aveiro District (Portuguese: Distrito de Aveiro, pronounced [ɐˈvɐjɾu] ) is located in the central coastal region of Portugal. The capital of the district is the city of Aveiro, which also serves as the seat of Aveiro Municipality. Aveiro District is bordered by the Porto District to the north, the Viseu District to the east, the Coimbra District to the south, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The 19 municipalities of Aveiro District are split between Norte Region (Metropolitan Area of Porto subregion) and Centro Region (Região de Aveiro subregion).

The University of Aveiro (Portuguese: Universidade de Aveiro) is a public university, in addition to providing polytechnic education, located in the Portuguese city of Aveiro. Founded in 1973, it has a student population of approximately 12,500, distributed among 58 graduate, 40 Masters of Science and 25 PhD programs, distributed by departments and autonomous sections, with specialized faculties. It is a Research & Development university, with research departments developing programmes in fundamental and applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, telecommunications, robotics, bioinformatics, sea sciences, materials, design, business administration and industrial engineering. The main campus and nearby Administration and Accounting Institute, are located in the city centre of Aveiro. There are external/regional campuses in Águeda (Higher Education Technological and Management School of Águeda) and Oliveira de Azeméis (Higher Education School of North Aveiro). It serves as a pole for the inter-university Doctoral program, along with the universities of Porto and Minho. Its integrated Masters in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering was the first Portuguese IT oriented European Accredited Engineering Masters (EUR-ACE) by the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education.

Glória e Vera Cruz is a civil parish in the municipality of Aveiro, in the central Portuguese district of Aveiro. It was constituted in 2013, following the national administrative reform, through aggregation of the civil parishes of Glória and Vera Cruz, resulting a cumulative population of 18756 inhabitants dispersed through a total area of 45.32 square kilometres (17.50 sq mi).

A Church of São João Evangelista (Portuguese: Igreja de São João Evangelista), or Carmelite Church of Aveiro, is an 18th-century church in the Praça Marquês de Pombal, in the civil parish of Glória e Vera Cruz, in the Portuguese municipality of Aveiro. It was declared a national monument in 1910.
