St. Michael's Church is one of the oldest Catholic churches in the Mahim suburb of Mumbai (Bombay), situated at the junction of LJ Road and Mahim Causeway. Initially known as San Miguel in Portuguese, the original structure was built by Franciscan missionaries of the Portuguese Church in 1534 AD, in what was then the Bombay and Bassein province. It was rebuilt a number of times; the present structure dating to 1973. The church also served as a refuge to the popular icon of the Virgin Mary from Our Lady of the Mount chapel, Bandra from 1739 to 1761. The place is also informally known as Mahim Church due to its location, and is famed for its Novenas on Wednesdays, which is visited by thousands of devotees.

The Xavier Institute of Engineering (XIE), a sister institution of St. Xavier College, Mumbai, Fort, is an engineering college in central Mumbai, established in the year 2005 to give a quality technical education to all, with a preferential option for economically backward and Christians . The institute is managed by the Society of Jesus, Jesuits, and is affiliated to Mumbai University, approved by AICTE New Delhi, and recognized by Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra . XIE is a member of AJIT, the Association of Jesuit Institutes of Technology and IAJES (International Association of Jesuit Engineering Schools) . It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India . Since XIE is affiliated to Mumbai University, it follows its syllabus and examination system. It began in the early 1930s as a technical institute on the premises of St. Xavier College, Mumbai providing basic professional courses . In 2005 it became a polytechnic founded in Mahim, near what was called "Fishermen's Colony", a fifteen-minute walk from the Mahim Junction Railroad Station. At the same time, the Xavier Institute of Engineering (XIE) was started on the same premises.XIE offers an undergraduate degree course in Engineering (B.E.) in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (60 seats), Computer Engineering (60 seats), and Information Technology (60 seats) . There is one-year diploma course in Sound Engineering (20 seats). In collaboration with Marquette University, XIE has set up the "Gait Lab", where a person's walk is captured in 3-D imaging and to which Government hospitals are sending children to seek help as it is the only lab in Mumbai City .

Mahim (Marathi pronunciation: [maːɦiːm]) is a neighbourhood in Mumbai, India. The Mahim railway station is in the Mahim area, on the Mumbai suburban railway on the Western Railway line. Mahim is diverse and has a church, mosque and fire-temple existing within a few meters of each other.

Sanitation in the slums remains poor.

The Bombay Scottish School, Mahim (BSS or BSS Mahim), popularly known as Scottish, is a private, Christian co-educational day school located at Mahim West in Mumbai, India. The institution was established in 1847 by Scottish Christian missionaries under the name Scottish Female Orphanage. Bombay Scottish School, Powai is an affiliate of this institution. The school caters to pupils from kindergarten up to class 12 and the medium of instruction is English. St. Xavier's Technical Institute (founded in 1937) is an electronics school in Mumbai, India. It is part of the Jesuit family of schools and began operations on the premises of St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. It was transferred to its own building in Mahim in June 1969. It was previously known as the Abdulla Fazalbhoy Technical Institute for Radio and Cinema.

The P. D. Hinduja National Hospital and Medical Research Centre is a multi-specialty, tertiary care hospital in Mumbai, India. It was founded by Parmanand Deepchand Hinduja, in collaboration with the Massachusetts General Hospital, the main teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, Boston. The Mahim Causeway is a vital link road connecting South Mumbai with its northern suburbs. The causeway links the neighbourhoods of Mahim to the south with Bandra to the north. The Mahim Causeway was built between 1841 and 1846 to connect the island of Salsette with Mahim. The swampy area between the two islands made travel dangerous and thus a need for a causeway arose. The British East India Company, who governed Bombay at that time, refused to fund the project. This led Lady Jeejeebhoy, wife of the first baronet Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy, to donate the entire amount of Rs.1,57,000/- on the condition that the government would not charge a toll for its use or disturb the Koli community who lived around the areaThe Mahim causeway forms the link between Swami Vivekanand Road and L.J.Road, being the stretch between Bandra masjid and Mahim church (St. Michael's). It is not to be confused with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, a major infrastructural project opened on 30 June 2009 which is designed to ease traffic across the causeway by building another bridge across the Mahim Bay.

Sion (/ˈsaːjən/; IAST: Śīv [ʃiːʋ]) is a neighbourhood of Mumbai. In the 17th century the village formed the boundary between Mumbai and Salsette Island. The British named it marking the end of the city. The name remained even after Mumbai was joined to the Salsette and extended up to Mulund. One of the local historical places in Sion is a hilltop garden commonly known as Sion Fort or Sheevon Killa in the Marathi language.
