Shattuck Avenue

The Keystone, also known as Keystone Berkeley, was a small music club at 2119 University Avenue in Berkeley, California, which operated in the 1970s and 1980s. Numerous nationally known groups performed there, including Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Ray Charles, Talking Heads, The Ramones, Metallica and B.B King, Blondie, and Greg Kihn among many others and the club was a regular venue for the Jerry Garcia Band. Keystone Berkeley, run by Freddie Herrera and Bobby Corona, was linked to The Stone and Keystone Palo Alto.

Berkeley Station was the name of the principal railroad station in Berkeley, California from 1878 to 1911. It was located in what is now downtown Berkeley, on Shattuck Avenue between University Avenue and Center Street. The tract is today occupied by Shattuck Square and Berkeley Square. The name continued in use after 1911 although the station was no longer the main rail depot for Berkeley.

The California Jazz Conservatory is a private music school in Berkeley, California. It is the only independent music conservatory in the United States devoted solely to jazz and related styles of music. Located in the Downtown Berkeley Arts District, the CJC offers Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Jazz Studies. The Conservatory also offers community education classes and workshops for instrumentalists and vocalists and precollege youth programs for beginning, intermediate and advanced musicians.

Revival Bar and Kitchen is a farm-to-table eatery in Berkeley, California that specializes in local, sustainable, ethical food. It first opened its doors in May 2010 with Amy Murray as owner, and later taking over as executive chef in December 2011. Nat Harry serves as Revival's head mixologist, and Patrick Cress as Revival's sommelier. Revival's name both refers to the fact that the restaurant is housed in a Revival-era building, a reference to the days when Berkeley's downtown was a bustling place that attracted the rich and famous, and a reference to Amy Murray's hopes that her twin restaurants, Revival and Venus, will play a significant role in the revival of Berkeley's downtown food scene and downtown in general.

Berkeley Repertory Theatre is a regional theater company located in Berkeley, California. It runs seven productions each season from its two stages in Downtown Berkeley.

The UC Theatre is a music venue on University Avenue near Shattuck Avenue in Downtown Berkeley, Berkeley, California, United States. From 1976 until 2001, it was as a movie theater known for a revival house presentation of films. In 2013, The Berkeley Music Group was formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission to renovate and operate the UC Theater as live music venue. It reopened its doors on April 7, 2016.

The University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health, commonly called Berkeley Public Health, is one of 14 schools and colleges at the University of California, Berkeley. The School of Public Health is consistently rated alongside the best in the nation, with recent rankings placing its doctoral programs in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, and Health Policy among the top in their fields, The school is ranked 8th in the country by US News & World Report. Established in 1943, it was the first school of public health west of the Mississippi River. The school is currently accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.

Chamber of Commerce Building is a historical building in downtown Berkeley, California. The Chamber of Commerce Building was built in 1925. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 29, 1985. The twelve-story Chamber of Commerce Building was the first highrise building in Berkeley. The building was designed by Walter H. Ratcliff Jr. for the Central Berkeley Building Company. The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce headquarters was on the top floor from 1925 to 1938. The Chamber of Commerce moved across the street to 100 Berkeley Square in 1838. In 1905, the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce was founded. In 1927, on the ground floor the American Trust Bank Berkeley Branch opened. In 1938, the building's name changed to the American Trust Building. The famous Stanford Axe award, was stored in American Trust vault and was the stole by the University of California on its way to the Greek Theater in an armored car on April 3, 1930. Later Wells Fargo Bank moved in and the building became the Wells Fargo Building. The building was listed as a City of Berkeley Landmark on December 17, 1984. James W. Plachek designed a number of other buildings in Berkeley, including: Berkeley Public Library, Corder Building, New Hotel Carquinez, UC Theatre, schools, and civic buildings. Architect James W. Plachek office was is the Heywood Building.
