Rise Hall

Rise is a village and civil parish in Holderness, the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) east of the town of Beverley and 5 miles (8 km) south-west of Hornsea. It lies to the east of the B1243 road. The place-name 'Rise' is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Risun in the Holderness Wapentake. This is the plural of the Old English word 'hris', meaning 'brushwood'. According to the 2011 UK census, Rise parish had a population of 105, a reduction on the 2001 UK census figure of 119.Rise was served from 1864 to 1964 by Whitedale railway station on the Hull and Hornsea Railway, until the line was closed following the Beeching Report.

Skirlaugh is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, in an area known as Holderness. It is situated approximately 7 miles (11 km) north-east of Hull city centre on the A165 road. Originally a farming community, it is now primarily a commuter village for Hull. The name of the village is derived from Old English and originally meant shire clearing. The name is partly due to Old Norse influence, as the village lies in the former Danelaw; it is identical in meaning to Shirley.According to the 2011 UK census, Skirlaugh parish had a population of 1,473, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 1,543. The parish church, St Augustine's Church, was built by Walter de Skirlaw who later became the Bishop of Durham in the late 14th century. It is, according to Pevsner, a "gem of the early-perpendicular" style. This is because subsequent generations left the original structure largely intact. The stonework was re-pointed in the 1980s and 1990s by Edward Brown, a local volunteer. The church is a Local Ecumenical Partnership between the Church of England and the Methodist church. In 1966 the church was designated a Grade I listed building and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England. Skirlaugh was served from 1864 to 1957 by Skirlaugh railway station on the Hull and Hornsea Railway even though the station was located 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south of the village.Skirlaugh rugby league club, play in the Premier Division of the National Conference League.

Whitedale railway station was a railway station which served the villages of Rise and Withernwick in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was on the Hull and Hornsea Railway. It opened on 28 March 1864 and closed following the Beeching Report on 19 October 1964.

New Ellerby is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, in an area known as Holderness. It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) north-east of Hull city centre and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of Skirlaugh, lying to the east of the A165 road.Together with its neighbour, Old Ellerby, it forms the civil parish of Ellerby. In 1823, Edward Baines indicates Ellerby was in the civil parish of Swine, and the Wapentake and Liberty of Holderness. The population at the time, including the then settlements of Dowthorp, Langthorp and Owbrough, was 233, including five farmers, a blacksmith, a wheelwright, a shoemaker, the landlord of The Board public house, and a further farmer at Dowthorp.New Ellerby was served from 1864 to 1964 by Burton Constable railway station on the Hull and Hornsea Railway.

The civil parish is formed by the hamlets of New Ellerby and Old Ellerby. According to the 2011 UK census, Ellerby parish had a population of 365, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 393.In 2020 the Ellerby Area Hoard was found during building renovations in a house in Ellerby parish. It is a hoard of 266 17th-18th century gold coins found in a stoneware vessel.

Burton Constable railway station was a railway station which served the villages of Marton and Burton Constable in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was on the Hull and Hornsea Railway. It opened on 28 March 1864 as "Marton", but was renamed "Burton Constable" on 1 August 1864, to avoid confusion with various other Martons elsewhere. It was renamed again (to avoid confusion with Constable Burton on the Wensleydale Railway), on 1 January 1922 and became known as "Ellerby". It closed following the Beeching Report on 19 October 1964.

Little Hatfield is a small hamlet in the civil parish of Hatfield, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, in an area known as Holderness. It is situated approximately 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Hornsea town centre, and less than 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Great Hatfield. Little Hatfield was formerly a township in the parish of Sigglesthorne, in 1866 Little Hatfield became a separate civil parish, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Goxhill and Great Hatfield to form "Hatfield". In 1931 the parish had a population of 63.In 1823 Little Hatfield was in the Wapentake and Liberty of Holderness. Population at the time was 25, which included a farmer.Little Hatfield was served from 1864 to 1964 by Sigglesthorne railway station on the Hull and Hornsea Railway.

Ellerby railway station refers to either of two disused stations on the Hull and Hornsea Railway. They served the village of Old Ellerby in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The first station to be named "Ellerby" opened in September 1864. It was a market station with trains only stopping on Tuesdays. Ellerby closed to passengers in July 1902, but it remained in use for goods as "Ellerby Siding". "Ellerby Siding" was renamed as "Weelerby West Siding" in July 1923. Weelerby West Siding closed completely on 7 April 1959. The second "Ellerby" station (see Burton Constable railway station) opened on 28 March 1864 as "Marton" but it was renamed "Burton Constable" in August of the same year. Because this could be confused with Constable Burton railway station in North Yorkshire, the name was changed again, at the start of 1922, to "Ellerby". Ellerby's goods service ceased on 11 November 1963 and passenger services ended on 19 October 1964.

Sigglesthorne is a small village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Hornsea on the A1035 road (formerly B1244) where it meets the B1243 road. According to the 2011 UK census, Sigglesthorne parish had a population of 404, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 282. The village has around 175 houses. There is also an ancient church dedicated to St. Lawrence that was designated a Grade II* listed building in 1966 and is now recorded in the National Heritage List for England, maintained by Historic England. There is also a Church of England school. It is rumoured throughout the village that the settlement was given its name as a result of a Viking who lived there. This Viking leader was supposedly called Siggle/Siggul, and since hawthorne is the predominant type of hedge around the village, it was given the name "Siggul's thorne" → Sigglesthorne. Hornsea Road in Sigglesthorne is now the home to a large garden centre named Hornsea Garden Centre.

Skirlaugh was a rural district in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England from 1894 to 1935.The district formed an area around the Hornsea urban district. The district was created by the Local Government Act 1894.In 1935 the district was abolished by a County Review Order made under the Local Government Act 1929. and the area then formed part of the newly created Holderness Rural District. At the same time a small part was transferred to the municipal borough of Kingston upon Hull.

It is situated approximately 9 miles (14 km) north of Hull city centre and covering an area of 1,374.241 hectares (3,395.82 acres).The civil parish is formed by the village of Long Riston and the hamlet of Arnold. According to the 2011 UK census, Riston parish had a population of 979, an increase on the 2001 UK census figure of 630.
