Skirlaugh Rural District

Whitedale railway station was a railway station which served the villages of Rise and Withernwick in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was on the Hull and Hornsea Railway. It opened on 28 March 1864 and closed following the Beeching Report on 19 October 1964.

Holderness was a wapentake of the historic East Riding of Yorkshire, England consisting of the south-easterly part of the county. Established in medieval times, it ceased to have much significance in the 19th century when the wapentakes were superseded by other administrative divisions for most local government purposes. Because of its large area it was sub-divided into three divisions—North Division, Middle Division and South Division.

It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) north-east of Kingston upon Hull city centre and 2 miles (3.2 km) east of the village of Skirlaugh and the A165 road. Marton was formerly a township in the parish of Swine, in 1866 Marton became a separate civil parish, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Burton Constable. In 1931 the parish had a population of 73.In 1823 Marton was in the Wapentake and Liberty of Holderness. A Catholic chapel was the only place of worship. Population at the time was 129, with occupations including nine farmers and a shoemaker. A carrier, who was also a Licensed victualler, operated between the village and Hull twice weekly.Marton was served from 1864 to 1964 by Burton Constable railway station on the Hull and Hornsea Railway.To the south-east of the settlement is the Roman Catholic Church of the Holy Sacrament which is a Grade II listed building.

New Ellerby is a hamlet in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, in an area known as Holderness. It is situated approximately 8 miles (13 km) north-east of Hull city centre and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of Skirlaugh, lying to the east of the A165 road.Together with its neighbour, Old Ellerby, it forms the civil parish of Ellerby. In 1823, Edward Baines indicates Ellerby was in the civil parish of Swine, and the Wapentake and Liberty of Holderness. The population at the time, including the then settlements of Dowthorp, Langthorp and Owbrough, was 233, including five farmers, a blacksmith, a wheelwright, a shoemaker, the landlord of The Board public house, and a further farmer at Dowthorp.New Ellerby was served from 1864 to 1964 by Burton Constable railway station on the Hull and Hornsea Railway.

Burton Constable railway station was a railway station which served the villages of Marton and Burton Constable in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was on the Hull and Hornsea Railway. It opened on 28 March 1864 as "Marton", but was renamed "Burton Constable" on 1 August 1864, to avoid confusion with various other Martons elsewhere. It was renamed again (to avoid confusion with Constable Burton on the Wensleydale Railway), on 1 January 1922 and became known as "Ellerby". It closed following the Beeching Report on 19 October 1964.

Sigglesthorne railway station was a railway station that served the villages of Great Hatfield, Little Hatfield and Sigglesthorne in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It was on the Hull and Hornsea Railway. It opened on 28 March 1864, and was originally named "Hatfield". It was renamed (to avoid confusion with Hatfield on the East Coast Main Line), on 1 October 1874, and closed following the Beeching Report on 19 October 1964. A section of the disused railway line is now a local nature reserve.

It is situated 3 miles (5 km) to the south-west of Hornsea town centre and covering an area of 1,336.789 hectares (3,303.28 acres).The civil parish was formed in 1935 from the merger of the parishes of Great Hatfield, Goxhill and Little Hatfield.According to the 2011 UK census, Hatfield parish had a population of 249, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 258.

Little Hatfield was formerly a township in the parish of Sigglesthorne, in 1866 Little Hatfield became a separate civil parish, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Goxhill and Great Hatfield to form "Hatfield". In 1931 the parish had a population of 63.In 1823 Little Hatfield was in the Wapentake and Liberty of Holderness. Population at the time was 25, which included a farmer.Little Hatfield was served from 1864 to 1964 by Sigglesthorne railway station on the Hull and Hornsea Railway.

Great Hatfield is a village in the civil parish of Hatfield, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England in an area known as Holderness. It is situated approximately 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south-west of Hornsea town centre, and less than one mile (1.6 km) east of Little Hatfield. Great Hatfield was formerly a township in the parishes of Mappleton and Sigglesthorne, in 1866 Great Hatfield became a civil parish, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Goxhill and Little Hatfield to form Hatfield. In 1931 the parish had a population of 147.In 1823 Great Hatfield was in the civil parish of Mappleton and Sigglesthorne, and in the Wapentake and Liberty of Holderness. An "ancient stone cross of exquisite workmanship" was recorded at the village centre. There was a burial place but no place of worship. A previous chapel had burnt down a hundred years previously, although a stone, with the inscription "Here lieth the body of Expopher Constable, A.D. 642", marked its location. Population at the time was 127, with occupations including ten farmers, a grocer, a tailor, and a shoemaker. A carrier operated between the village and Hull once a week.Great Hatfield was served from 1864 to 1964 by Sigglesthorne railway station on the Hull and Hornsea Railway. Landmarks include St Helen's Well, the Wrygarth Inn pub, and nearby 'Hatfield Paddock' football pitch adjacent to Densholme farm.

Ellerby is a civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated 8 miles (13 km) to the north-east of Hull city centre and covering an area of 924.853 hectares (2,285.36 acres). The civil parish is formed by the hamlets of New Ellerby and Old Ellerby. According to the 2011 UK census, Ellerby parish had a population of 365, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 393.In 2020 the Ellerby Area Hoard was found during building renovations in a house in Ellerby parish. It is a hoard of 266 17th-18th century gold coins found in a stoneware vessel.

Withernwick is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 10 miles (16 km) north-east of Hull city centre and 5 miles (8 km) south of Hornsea. According to the 2011 UK census, Withernwick parish had a population of 453, a reduction on the 2001 UK census figure of 474. The parish church of St Alban is a Grade II listed building.Over the past few years the village has been in decline, having lost its post office, school, Methodist chapel and village hall.

Ellerby railway station refers to either of two disused stations on the Hull and Hornsea Railway. They served the village of Old Ellerby in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The first station to be named "Ellerby" opened in September 1864. It was a market station with trains only stopping on Tuesdays. Ellerby closed to passengers in July 1902, but it remained in use for goods as "Ellerby Siding". "Ellerby Siding" was renamed as "Weelerby West Siding" in July 1923. Weelerby West Siding closed completely on 7 April 1959. The second "Ellerby" station (see Burton Constable railway station) opened on 28 March 1864 as "Marton" but it was renamed "Burton Constable" in August of the same year. Because this could be confused with Constable Burton railway station in North Yorkshire, the name was changed again, at the start of 1922, to "Ellerby". Ellerby's goods service ceased on 11 November 1963 and passenger services ended on 19 October 1964.
