Mariapolder is a polder and hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland located near Strijensas and is part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. Mariapolder is not a statistical entity, and considered part of Strijensas. It has a little harbour and World War II bunkers.

Strijensas is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 12 km southwest of the city of Dordrecht, in the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. The village was first mentioned in 1617 as "'t Sas van Stryen", and means "the sluice of Strijen". Strijensas developed after 1650 at the mouth of the harbour canal of Strijen.The first Dutch Reformed church was built in 1879. In February 1945, it was destroyed by war and replaced in 1952.Strijensas was home to 301 people in 1840. Nowadays, it consists of about 180 houses. It was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1855, when it became part of Strijen. In 2019, it became part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard.

The Dordtse Kil (pre-1947 spelling: Dordtsche Kil) is a short river in South Holland in the Netherlands. The river is tidal and forms the connection between the Oude Maas river and the Hollands Diep. The river is for most part artificial in origin, since it has been a relatively small tidal creek until the 19th century.

The Moerdijk bridges in the Netherlands are bridges that connect the Island of Dordrecht with the Dutch province of North Brabant (Noord-Brabant) across the Hollands Diep. The first bridge was built at the end of the 19th century, and was a railway bridge. The second bridge was built in the 1930s for road traffic, and is currently part of the A16 motorway. This bridge was replaced in 1978 by a more modern, wider bridge. A second railroad bridge was finished in 2006, as part of the HSL-Zuid project. At the beginning of the Battle of Holland, on 10 May 1940, bridges were captured during a paratroopers operation and held for 4 days until German forward forces arrived. In 1944, both the road and railway bridge were destroyed by the Germans to prevent the Allied Forces from reaching the province South Holland.

's-Gravendeel (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌs xraːvə(n)ˈdeːl] (listen)) is a town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. 's-Gravendeel is on the eastern side of Hoeksche Waard Island on the river Dordtsche Kil. It is connected to Dordrecht by means of the Kil Tunnel. The village was first mentioned in 1645 as Schravendeel, and means "settlement of the Count (of Holland)". The village was founded after the new polder Nieuw-Bonaventura was drained in 1593. It used to be property of the States of Holland. In 1731, the village was sold to Dordrecht. 's-Gravendeel developed into the centre of the flax industry.The Dutch Reformed church is a cruciform church built in 1905 after the 1637 church had burnt down. The tower was destroyed in 1945 and rebuilt in 1951.'s-Gravendeel was home to 928 people in 1840. It was affected by the North Sea flood of 1953. In 1970, the old harbour was filled up and a new harbour was built on the Dordtsche Kil.The municipality of 's-Gravendeel was merged with Binnenmaas on 1 January 2007. Since 1 January 2019, it is part of the new municipality Hoeksche Waard.

Hollands Diep (pre-1947 spelling: Hollandsch Diep) is a river in the Netherlands, and an estuary of the Rhine and Meuse rivers. Through the Scheldt-Rhine Canal it connects to the Scheldt river and Antwerp. The Bergse Maas river and the Nieuwe Merwede river join near Lage Zwaluwe to form the Hollands Diep. The Dordtsche Kil connects to it near Moerdijk. Near Numansdorp it splits into the Haringvliet and the Volkerak.

Strijen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈstrɛiə(n)] ) is a town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality, covering an area of 57.70 km2 (22.28 sq mi) of which 6.85 km2 (2.64 sq mi) is water, is located on the Hoeksche Waard island along the Hollands Diep estuary. On 1 January 2019 it was merged with the municipalities of Binnenmaas, Cromstrijen, Korendijk, and Oud-Beijerland to form the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. Strijen hosts a public library, swimming pool, a small shopping centre and a local museum. Furthermore, Strijen is home to an important and welcome resting stop for migrating birds, especially geese. During winter, the endangered Eurasian spoonbill uses this area as a foraging ground. The municipality of Strijen also includes the population centres of Cillaarshoek, De Klem, Mookhoek, Oudendijk, and Strijensas.

Keizersdijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland and is part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. It lies northwest of Strijen. Keizersdijk is not a statistical entity, and considered part of Strijen. It has no place name signs, and consists of about 40 houses.

Waterschap Hollandse Delta (WSHD) is a Dutch regional water authority covering the south of South Holland with its seat in Ridderkerk. The area it encompasses includes Rotterdam (south of the Nieuwe Maas) as well as the (former) islands Goeree-Overflakkee, Hoeksche Waard, Voorne-Putten, the Island of Dordrecht, IJsselmonde, Rozenburg and Tiengemeten. It is responsible for water management, water quality and sewage water treatment and was formed from a merger of 4 regional water authorities in January 2005.

Wieldrecht is a small village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 4 km southwest of the city of Dordrecht, on the Kil River. Wieldrecht was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1857, when it became part of Dubbeldam.

Cillaarshoek is a hamlet in the western Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Hoeksche Waard, South Holland, about 15 km south of Rotterdam. Cillaarshoek was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1832, when it became part of the municipality of Maasdam. In 1984, it became a part of the existing municipality of Strijen while the rest of the municipality of Maasdam was merged into the new municipality of BinnenmaasThe Dutch Reformed church is an aisleless with a little wooden tower which was built shortly after its predecessor was demolished in 1838.Cillaarshoek is not a statistical entity, and considered part of Klaaswaal. It has place name signs, and consists of about 150 houses.

Maasdam is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 14 km south of the city of Rotterdam, in the municipality of Hoeksche Waard, on the rural Hoeksche Waard island. From the 14th Century until around 1800, Maasdam was also the name of the local administrative area, the fief and later the "ambacht". Subsequently, from 1 January 1812 until 1 January 1984, it became the name of the local municipality, which comprised the village of Maasdam and the surrounding polders. In the periods 1812 - 1817 and 1832 - 1984, the hamlet of Cillaarshoek and the hamlet and polder of Sint Anthoniepolder were also part of the municipality of Maasdam.The municipality of Maasdam was eventually merged with some surrounding municipalities to become part of the new municipality of Binnenmaas. The exception was Cillaarshoek which was split and partly merged into the existing municipality of Strijen. On 1 January 2019 Binnenmaas was merged with Cromstrijen, Korendijk, Oud-Beijerland, and Strijen to form the municipality of Hoeksche Waard.
