Strijensas

Hollands Diep (pre-1947 spelling: Hollandsch Diep) is a river in the Netherlands, and an estuary of the Rhine and Meuse rivers. Through the Scheldt-Rhine Canal it connects to the Scheldt river and Antwerp. The Bergse Maas river and the Nieuwe Merwede river join near Lage Zwaluwe to form the Hollands Diep. The Dordtsche Kil connects to it near Moerdijk. Near Numansdorp it splits into the Haringvliet and the Volkerak.

Schenkeldijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland and is part of the municipality Hoeksche Waard. The village lies 1 km south east of the village Mookhoek and east of Strijen. Schenkeldijk was severely affected by the North Sea flood of 1953. Many wooden houses were donated to the village from Sweden and placed in what is nowadays called Zweedsestraat (Swedish street). Schenkeldijk is not a statistical entity, and considered part of 's-Gravendeel and Strijen. It has place name signs, and consists of about 200 houses.

Strijen (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈstrɛiə(n)] ) is a town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality, covering an area of 57.70 km2 (22.28 sq mi) of which 6.85 km2 (2.64 sq mi) is water, is located on the Hoeksche Waard island along the Hollands Diep estuary. On 1 January 2019 it was merged with the municipalities of Binnenmaas, Cromstrijen, Korendijk, and Oud-Beijerland to form the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. Strijen hosts a public library, swimming pool, a small shopping centre and a local museum. Furthermore, Strijen is home to an important and welcome resting stop for migrating birds, especially geese. During winter, the endangered Eurasian spoonbill uses this area as a foraging ground. The municipality of Strijen also includes the population centres of Cillaarshoek, De Klem, Mookhoek, Oudendijk, and Strijensas.

The Moerdijk bridges in the Netherlands are bridges that connect the Island of Dordrecht with the Dutch province of North Brabant (Noord-Brabant) across the Hollands Diep. The first bridge was built at the end of the 19th century, and was a railway bridge. The second bridge was built in the 1930s for road traffic, and is currently part of the A16 motorway. This bridge was replaced in 1978 by a more modern, wider bridge. A second railroad bridge was finished in 2006, as part of the HSL-Zuid project. At the beginning of the Battle of Holland, on 10 May 1940, bridges were captured during a paratroopers operation and held for 4 days until German forward forces arrived. In 1944, both the road and railway bridge were destroyed by the Germans to prevent the Allied Forces from reaching the province South Holland.

Keizersdijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland and is part of the municipality of Hoeksche Waard. It lies northwest of Strijen. Keizersdijk is not a statistical entity, and considered part of Strijen. It has no place name signs, and consists of about 40 houses.

The Dordtse Kil (pre-1947 spelling: Dordtsche Kil) is a short river in South Holland in the Netherlands. The river is tidal and forms the connection between the Oude Maas river and the Hollands Diep. The river is for most part artificial in origin, since it has been a relatively small tidal creek until the 19th century.

Cillaarshoek is a hamlet in the western Netherlands. It is located in the municipality of Hoeksche Waard, South Holland, about 15 km south of Rotterdam. Cillaarshoek was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1832, when it became part of the municipality of Maasdam. In 1984, it became a part of the existing municipality of Strijen while the rest of the municipality of Maasdam was merged into the new municipality of BinnenmaasThe Dutch Reformed church is an aisleless with a little wooden tower which was built shortly after its predecessor was demolished in 1838.Cillaarshoek is not a statistical entity, and considered part of Klaaswaal. Achterdijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of North Brabant. It is located in the municipality of Moerdijk, about 2 km northeast of the town of Zevenbergen.The name of the hamlet means "Back Dike".

NLM CityHopper Flight 431 refers to a Fokker F-28-4000, registration PH-CHI, that was due to operate an international scheduled Rotterdam–Eindhoven–Hamburg passenger service. On 6 October 1981, the aircraft encountered severe weather on the first leg, minutes after taking off from Rotterdam Airport, and crashed 15 miles (24 km) south-southeast of Rotterdam. All 17 occupants of the aircraft – 13 passengers and 4 crew members– died in the accident.: 183
