Hülsede is a municipality in the district of Schaumburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany.

Lauenau is a small town in Lower Saxony, Germany, with about 4,200 inhabitants. It is situated in the east of the district of Schaumburg just off the A2 Autobahn at the foot of the Deister ridge in the Deister-Süntel valley. As well as Lauenau itself, the parish includes the village of Feggendorf, a former coal mining community on the slopes of the Deister which now has a mining museum.

The Calenberg Uplands (German: Calenberger Bergland) are a landscape unit in the Weser-Leine Uplands in Lower Saxony, Germany. They border on the Calenberg Land to the north and merge into the Weser Uplands in the west and the Leine Uplands in the east. They are dissected by the Deister-Süntel and Aue valleys. The following ridges belong to the Calenberg Uplands: Bückeberg – 367 m above sea level (NN) Deister – 405 m above NN Harrl – 211 m above NN Kleiner Deister (L) – 346 m above NN Nesselberg (L) – 378 m above NN Osterwald (L) – 419 m above NN Süntel (W) – 437 m above NN Wesergebirge (W) – 340 m above NNWhilst the southwestern ridges of the Süntel and Weser Hills also belong to the Weser Uplands (W), the eastern heights of the Osterwald, Nesselberg and Kleiner Deister are grouped with the Leine Uplands (L).

Apelern is a municipality in the Samtgemeinde of Rodenberg in the district of Schaumburg, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It lies in the Deister-Süntel valley and is situated close to the A2 Autobahn at Lauenau and south of Rodenberg, between the Deister, Süntel and Bückeberg ridges. The Riesbach stream flows through the village and into the Rodenberger Aue (stream). As well as the village of Apelern itself, the community of Apelern includes the villages of Gross Hegesdorf, Kleinhegesdorf, Lyhren, Reinsdorf and Soldorf. The existence of Apelern is documented as far back as 1162, when the church was built. The name means roughly "at the apple trees", and there are apple trees in the park of the Münchhausen estate to this day. In Saxon times (c. 8th and 9th centuries) Apelern had a place of worship (the seat of an archdeaconry) and a court of justice. At the end of the 12th century the church was the main church of the Buckigau. In common with many villages in Germany and elsewhere, its history is closely connected with that of the local nobility. For the last 300 to 400 years the noble families of Münchhausen and Hammerstein have stamped their mark on the village. The Battle of Süntel was a land battle that took place between Saxon rebels led by Widukind and a detachment of Frankish forces led by envoys of Charlemagne named Adalgis, Geilo, and Worad at Süntel in 782 during the Saxon Wars. The result was a victory for the Saxons, resulting in the deaths of Adalgis, Geilo, four counts, and 20 other noblemen. Shortly following the loss, Charlemagne had 4,500 rebels beheaded on a single day, in an event sometimes known as the Verden Massacre.

The Weser Uplands-Schaumburg-Hamelin Nature Park (German: Naturpark Weserbergland Schaumburg-Hameln) lies on the northern edge of the German Central Uplands where it transitions to the North German Plain, about 50 kilometres (31 mi) southwest of Hanover. The sponsor of the nature park, which was founded in 1975, is the state of Lower Saxony. The park extends along the Weser valley between Rinteln and Hamelin and includes parts of the Schaumburg Land, Calenberg, Lippe and Pyrmont Uplands from Bad Nenndorf in the north to Bad Pyrmont in the south, Bückeburg and Bad Eilsen in the west and Bad Münder and Osterwald in the east. Its highest elevation is in the Süntel hills.

The is a massif in the German Central Uplands that is up to 437.5 m above sea level (NN). It forms part of the Weser Uplands in Lower Saxony southwest of Hanover and north of Hamelin.
