Tharandt Forest

Klingenberg-Colmnitz station is a station on the Dresden–Werdau railway and the start of two former 750 mm gauge railways, the Klingenberg-Colmnitz–Oberdittmannsdorf and the Klingenberg-Colmnitz–Frauenstein railways, in the municipality of Klingenberg in the German state of Saxony. The station is the top station of the Tharandter Steige ("Tharandt climb").

The Holy Way (German: Heilige Weg) came about as a result of the canonization of Bishop Benno of Meissen. It led from Bohemia to Meissen and ran between Grillenburg and Wilsdruff in the present-day district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge in the opposite direction and parallel with the Saxon St. James' Way (Sächsischen Jakobsweg). Original sections of the route have survived, for example in the Tharandt Forest between Grillenburg and Spechtshausen.

KNOX is the trade mark of the oldest incense manufacturers in Germany. It is based in the little village of Mohorn-Grund in the borough of Wilsdruff and run by the firm of Hermann Zwetz, Chemist's. In 1865 the chemist, whose name the firm now bears, sold the incense candles, known as Räucherkerzchen as a remedy for whooping cough and asthma. Only later were the little candles used for Christmas festivities. Today about 50 tonnes of incense products are manufactured annually in 30 scent varieties in the factory premises that were newly built in 1997. The company, which continued in private hands even in East German times, also has a small museum in which there is much to discover about incense products, especially from Saxony, but also from the rest of the world. They are used especially in the wooden toy figures known as Räuchermänner.

Klingenberg is a municipality in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district, in Saxony, Germany. It was formed on 31 December 2012 by the merger of the former municipalities Pretzschendorf and Höckendorf.

The Forstbotanischer Garten Tharandt (lit. 'Forest Botanical Garden of Tharandt'; 33.4 hectares), also known as the Sächsisches Landesarboretum (‘Saxony State Arboretum’), is an arboretum maintained by the Dresden University of Technology. It is among the oldest arboreta in the world, and is located at Am Forstgarten 1, Tharandt, Saxony, Germany, and open daily except Friday in the warmer months. The arboretum was established in 1811 by Heinrich Cotta (1763–1844), founder of the Forestry College in Tharandt. In 1816, it was incorporated into the Royal Saxon Academy of Forestry, and in 1842 augmented by the Schweizerhaus Tharandt, a building in the Swiss style which now houses the arboretum museum. It has subsequently been expanded several times, most recently in 1998 with a new North American section (15 hectares). Today, the arboretum contains about 2,000 species and varieties of woody plants.

Bobritzsch-Hilbersdorf is a municipality in the Mittelsachsen district of Saxony, Germany, created with effect from 1 January 2012 by the merger of Bobritzsch and Hilbersdorf.

Tharandt (German: [ˈtaʁant] ) is a municipality in Saxony, Germany, situated on the Weißeritz, 9 miles southwest of Dresden. It has a Protestant Church and the oldest academy of forestry in Germany, founded as the Royal Saxon Academy of Forestry by Heinrich Cotta in 1811, together with its arboretum, the Forstbotanischer Garten Tharandt. In 2002, a severe flood destroyed many of the academy buildings and the library, including some of its more-than-500-year old books. The academy was rebuilt and today has about 650 students and is famous for its long traditions of educating students from all over the world in (tropical) forestry, resource management and sustainable land use. In the early 20th century, Tharandt was a favorite summer resort of the people of Dresden, one of its principal charms being the magnificent beech woods which surround it.

Bobritzsch is a former municipality in the district of Mittelsachsen, in Saxony, Germany. With effect from 1 January 2012, it has merged with Hilbersdorf, forming the new municipality of Bobritzsch-Hilbersdorf.Bobritzsch is located some 28 km southwest of Dresden, 15 km west of Dippoldiswalde, 9 km northwest of Frauenstein, 10 km east of Brand-Erbisdorf and about 8 km east of Freiberg. Bobritzsch lies at the foot of the Eastern Ore Mountains. The small river Bobritzsch flows through Bobritzsch from south to north. The Ortsteil Naundorf is on the Bundesstraße 173, between Freiberg and Dresden.

Höckendorf is a village and a former municipality in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district, in Saxony, Germany. Since 31 December 2012, it is part of the municipality Klingenberg.

Tharandt station is a station on the Dresden–Werdau railway in the town of Tharandt in the German state of Saxony. Until the electrification of the line in 1966, Tharandt was an important stopover for the attachment of bank engines for operations on the Steil ramp up to Klingenberg-Colmnitz. Today, the station has only significance for the regional traffic. It is the terminus for most, but not all trains of Dresden S-Bahn's line S3.
