Nanny Rutt is a character in a cautionary tale associated with Nanny Rutt's well, an artesian spring in Math Wood, near Northorpe, in the parish of Thurlby, Lincolnshire. The story goes that a named girl went into the wood, to the well and disappeared having been taken off by Nanny Rutt.

Thurlby is a village and civil parish in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It is situated just west of the A15 road, 2 miles (3 km) south from the town of Bourne, and on the edge of the Lincolnshire Fens. It is sometimes referred to as Thurlby by Bourne to distinguish it from other villages in Lincolnshire with the same name. Thurlby and the hamlet of Northorpe to its north are conjoined. The parish had a population of 2,136 at the 2001 census and 2,153 at the 2011 census.

Thurlby railway station was a station in Thurlby by Bourne, Lincolnshire on the Bourn and Essendine Railway between Essendine and Bourne. It was closed in 1951.

Bourne Grammar School (BGS) is a co-educational grammar school with academy status on South Road (A15), in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England. The school was founded in 1330. It previously held Arts College Status, and was awarded Academy status in January 2012, although it retains its former name.

Bourne Castle was a castle in the market town of Bourne in southern Lincolnshire (grid reference TF095199). A Norman castle was built by Baldwin FitzGilbert (son of Gilbert Fitz Richard, of the De Clare family). In medieval times there was motte and double bailey castle which formed an unusual concentric plan. The castle was destroyed after being used by Cromwell's troops in 1645 and a farmhouse was built on the site. Traces of the enclosed mound and inner and outer moats (forming part of the Bourne Eau) are all that now survive.The land the castle occupied is now a park, known as the Wellhead Park, owned by the Bourne United Charities and is open to the public.The first reference to Bourne Castle was in the 1179/80 Pipe Roll. There are other mentions of Bourne Castle throughout its history including the IPM (Inquisition Post Mortem) and the Close Rolls.

Bourne Festival is an annual music event held in Wellhead Park in the market town of Bourne, Lincolnshire, England. The festival is a charity event organised by Bourne and District Round Table 896, a member of the National Association of Round Tables of Great Britain and Ireland. It was first held in 2002 in celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, and was originally a collaboration between The Queen's Golden Jubilee Committee and Bourne Round Table, reviving the previously held '999 Galas'. The Bourne and District Round Table has run the festival with the help of volunteers as an annual event on the first weekend following the Spring Bank Holiday. Since the first festival in 2002, more than £250,000 has been raised for local and national charities, and individuals.The Festival includes live music from all genres. The headlining acts have included Doctor and the Medics. Since 2010 the event has included a battle of the bands competition for up-and-coming talent under the age of 18.

Bourne Abbey and the Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul is a scheduled Grade I church in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England. The building remains in parochial use, despite the 16th-century Dissolution, as the nave was used by the parish, probably from the time of the foundation of the abbey in 1138.

Bourne Eau is a short river which rises from an artesian spring in the town of Bourne in Lincolnshire, England, and flows in an easterly direction to join the River Glen at Tongue End. Within the town, it once powered three water mills, one of which is now a heritage centre. At Eastgate, it becomes much wider as it was navigable in the 18th and 19th centuries, and this was the location of the terminal basin. Below the town it is an embanked river, as its normal level is higher than that of the surrounding Fens. Navigation ceased in the 1860s and the river now forms an important part of the drainage system that enables the surrounding fen land to be used for agriculture. The artesian spring is fed by a limestone aquifer, which has been extensively used to supply drinking water to the locality and to Spalding. After a period of low rainfall in the late 1980s, the spring and hence the upper river dried up completely. A remediation project was implemented in 1992/93 to repair wild boreholes, where artesian water was uncontrollably running to waste. 30 boreholes were plugged or repaired, and water returned to the spring and river. The river divides North Fen from South Fen. Both were enclosed in the 1770s, and surplus water from the North Fen was fed to the South Forty-Foot Drain. Steam pumping was introduced in 1845, and the drainage is the responsibility of the Black Sluice Internal Drainage Board (IDB). To drain the South Fen Gilbert Heathcote's tunnel was constructed to take water under the River Glen to the Counter Drain. Various engines were used to pump water through the tunnel, but after the failure of a gas engine in 1942, a new pumping station was built, to pump water into the River Glen. Drainage in the South Fen is now the responsibility of the Welland and Deepings IDB.

Obthorpe is a hamlet in the civil parish of Thurlby, in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. It lies 3 miles (5 km) south from Bourne, 6 miles (10 km) north-east from Stamford and less than 1 mile (1.6 km) west from the A15. Thurlby is the nearest village, 1 mile (1.6 km) to the north. The house known as Obthorpe Lodge lies about 1 mile due east from the hamlet; both are on the Macmillan Way footpath. Obthorpe is mentioned in the Domesday account as "Opetorp". The manor comprised 19 households and 17 freemen, and had a meadow and woodland, both of 20 acres (0.081 km2). Lordship in 1066 was held by Ulf Fenman, transferred to Gilbert of Ghent in 1086, who was also Tenant-in-chief.

The Abbey Lawn in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England, is a centrally located space used as the principal recreation ground in the town. The cricket, tennis, bowls, pétanque, and football clubs play their home fixtures here. The hockey club practices here, though it now plays its fixtures on an all-weather pitch elsewhere. "The Lawn" is the site of the Bourne Cricket Club (Lincolnshire) and its associated facilities.

Bourne Town Football Club is a football club based in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England. Affiliated to the Lincolnshire Football Association, they are currently members of the United Counties League Division One and play at Abbey Lawn.
