The Northern Pacific Depot in Finlayson, Minnesota, United States, is a one-story wood frame passenger depot built on the Northern Pacific Railway line in 1909 to replace an earlier smaller depot. The rail line was originally built by the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad in 1870. Its successor, the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad first located a depot in Finlayson in the mid 1880s. The line was acquired by the Northern Pacific Railway in 1900. In 1970, the line became part of Burlington Northern, which abandoned the line in 1977. Today, the former right-of-way is part of the Willard Munger State Trail. The interior of the depot consists of a freight room at the southern end, the office at the center, and the waiting room at the northern end. The office's trackside bay window is flanked by a wide freight door to the south and a single-leafed five paneled passenger entrance to the north.Finlayson depot lost passenger service on January 4, 1967.

The Northern Pacific Depot in Hinckley, Minnesota, United States, is a wood-framed depot built in 1895, the year after the previous depot was destroyed in the Great Hinckley Fire on September 1, 1894. The depot was built from the plans of the previous depot. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The building was originally built by the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad, which was acquired by the Northern Pacific Railway in 1900. The building had separate men's and women's waiting rooms, a freight room, a restaurant known as the "Beanery", and a stationmaster's living quarters on the second floor.Passenger train service to Hinckley station ended on January 4, 1967, when trains 65 and 66 were discontinued between the Twin Cities and Duluth.The depot is now known as the Hinckley Fire Museum. The museum interprets the history of the fire that destroyed six towns and burned over 400 square miles (1,000 km2). It also explains how the town was rebuilt and how the area shifted to agricultural use after the lumbering era ended.

The population was 1,800 at the 2010 census.Hinckley's name in the Ojibwe language is Gaa-zhiigwanaabikokaag, meaning "the place abundant with grindstones" due to being located along the Grindstone River. Portions of the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation are located within and adjacent to Hinckley. On September 1, 1894, the Great Hinckley Fire killed more than 400 people. Hinckley is generally considered the halfway point on Interstate 35 between Minneapolis–Saint Paul and Duluth.

The Great Hinckley Fire was a conflagration in the pine forests of the U.S. state of Minnesota in September 1894, which burned an area of at least 200,000 acres (810 km2; 310 sq mi) (perhaps more than 250,000 acres [1,000 km2; 390 sq mi]), including the town of Hinckley. The official death count was 418; the actual number of fatalities was likely higher. Other sources put the death toll at 476.

Wareham is an abandoned townsite in Pine County, Minnesota, United States. Wareham was located immediately south of Sandstone on Government Road. Government Road, also known as "Douglas Highway" or the "Old Military Road", had served as a main route in the community. It is two miles from Interstate 35.

The Sandstone station of Sandstone, Minnesota was built in 1895 and served the Great Northern Railway and successor Burlington Northern until 1971. Passenger service ceased upon the formation of Amtrak, but resumed between Minneapolis and Superior in 1975. Sandstone was served by the Arrowhead and later the North Star between Chicago and Duluth. Service ceased after April 7, 1985. The depot still exists, but has been relocated from the tracks.
