Oregon Slough Railroad Bridge

Vanport, sometimes referred to as Vanport City or Kaiserville, was a city of wartime public housing in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States, between the contemporary Portland city boundary and the Columbia River. It was destroyed in the 1948 Columbia River flood and not rebuilt. It sat on what is currently the site of Delta Park and the Portland International Raceway.

The Sternwheeler Jean is a historic steamboat that operated on the Willamette River, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is a 168-foot (51 m)-long tugboat (counting its paddle wheels, now removed), built in 1938 for the Western Transportation Company (a former Crown Zellerbach subsidiary) and in service until 1957. In August 1989, it was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in Nez Perce County, Idaho. At that time, it was located in Lewiston, Idaho, having been there since 1976. In Lewiston, its location changed from time to time, and Hells Gate State Park was among the locations where Jean was moored. As of 1997, it was still in Lewiston, afloat on the Snake River, but its operating equipment had been removed. Its private owner at that time, the James River Corporation, sold the tug in 1998. In July 2004, Jean was moved from Lewiston to Portland, Oregon. Subsequently, its twin paddle wheels have been removed.

The Portland Expo Center, officially the Portland Metropolitan Exposition Center, is a convention center located in the Kenton neighborhood of Portland, Oregon, United States. Opened in the early 1920s as a livestock exhibition and auction facility, the center now hosts over 100 events a year, including green consumer shows, trade shows, conventions, meetings and other special events. Located on the north side of Portland near Vancouver, Washington, it includes the northern terminus for the Yellow Line of Portland's light-rail transit system and has connections to TriMet Bus Line 11-Rivergate/Marine Dr.

Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge 9.6 or BNSF Railway Bridge 9.6, also known as the Columbia River Railroad Bridge, is through truss railway bridge across the Columbia River, between Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, owned and operated by BNSF Railway. Built by the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway (SP&S) and completed in 1908, it was the first bridge of any kind to be built across the lower Columbia River, preceding the first road bridge, the nearby Interstate Bridge, by a little more than eight years. The 2,807-foot-long (856 m) bridge has a swing span, which pivots on its base to allow for the passage of taller ships. The bridge carries two railroad tracks, which are used by BNSF, Union Pacific Railroad, and Amtrak. It is one of only two surviving swing-span bridges in the Portland metropolitan area, which once had several bridges of that type. The other survivor is another BNSF bridge located nearby, on the same line and built at the same time, the Oregon Slough Railroad Bridge (also known as BNSF Railway Bridge 8.8). The 9.6 in the name is the distance, in miles, from Portland's Union Station, the same as for Bridge 5.1 (across the Willamette River) and Bridge 8.8 on the same line.

The G. M. Standifer Construction Company was an American company that built three shipyards on the Columbia River for the World War I effort, one in Oregon and two in Washington, all within spitting distance of each other. After the war it maintained its original yard in North Portland, Oregon. The North Portland yard, and one of the Vancouver, Washington yards (located where the Red Lion at the Quay is today, just west of the Interstate Bridge) (45.62329°N 122.67847°W / 45.62329; -122.67847) produced wooden ships. The other Vancouver yard, located just west of what was then the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway bridge (now the BNSF bridge, 45.62912°N 122.69107°W / 45.62912; -122.69107) produced steel-hulled ships. The Portland yard was located about a mile to the west, just downstream from the BNSF bridge (45.60729°N 122.68569°W / 45.60729; -122.68569). Both Vancouver yards were closed in 1921.

The Grand Prix of Portland is an Indy Car Series race held at Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon. The race was held every year from 1984 through 2007 first as a CART series race, then as part of Champ Car World Series. After a ten-year absence, the race returned to the IndyCar Series for the 2018 season.Portland is best-remembered as being the site of two of the closest finishes on a road course in Indy car racing history. In 1986, Michael Andretti lost fuel pressure on the final turn of the final lap, which allowed his father Mario to catch up and beat him to the finish line by 0.070 seconds. At the time, it was the closest finish of any race in Indy car history. In 1997, in a three-wide finish, Mark Blundell beat second place Gil de Ferran by 0.027 seconds, and beat third place Raul Boesel by 0.055 seconds. For a road course race, it was the all-time closest finish in CART series history, as well as the closest three-car finish in series history. For nearly its entire existence, the title sponsor of the race was G.I. Joe's sporting goods and auto parts store, and the event was held during or around the Portland Rose Festival. Numerous times, the race was held on Father's Day. Beginning in 2018, the race was held in September on Labor Day weekend, promoted by Green Savoree Racing Promotions.

The 2004 Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland was the fourth round of the 2004 Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford season, held on June 20, 2004 at Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon. Sébastien Bourdais took the pole and race win.

The 2005 G.I. Joe's Presents the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland was the fourth round of the 2005 Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford season, held on June 19, 2005 at the Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon. The pole sitter was Justin Wilson and the race was won by Cristiano da Matta. It marked the 12th and final Champ Car victory for the 2002 CART champion. It was also the first career Champ Car pole for Wilson, the first of eight in his American open wheel career.

Portland International Raceway (PIR) is a motorsport facility in Portland in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is part of the Delta Park complex on the former site of Vanport, just south of the Columbia River. It lies west of a light rail station and less than a mile west of Interstate 5. The track hosts the IndyCar Series, ICSCC and SCCA and OMRRA road racing, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, and SCCA autocross events. Additionally, the PIR grounds are host to OBRA (Oregon Bicycle Racing Association) bicycling races on the track and the surrounding grounds. The facility includes a dragstrip and a motocross track. The road course is almost perfectly flat and runs clockwise. Two track configurations are possible. One includes a hard chicane at the end of the front straight and involves 12 turns alength of 1.945 mi (3.130 km). Without the chicane, the track has nine turns and a lap length of 1.915 mi (3.082 km). Portland is classified as an FIA Grade Two circuit.The City of Portland is working to establish the track as carbon neutral.

The 2001 Freightliner/G.I. Joe's 200 was a Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) motor race held on June 24, 2001, at Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon, USA. It was the 8th round of the 2001 CART season. The race was won from the pole in severe wet conditions by Max Papis for Team Rahal. Roberto Moreno finished second, and Christian Fittipaldi clinched third. It was Papis' second career CART win and his first of the 2001 season. It was also his second career pole in the series, as well as his last. For Moreno, it was his second consecutive runner-up at Portland and his second consecutive podium that season after finishing third at Detroit. It would also be Fittipaldi's only podium finish that season. The race was marred by heavy rain the night before the race, which created a wet track with multiple areas of standing water. This proved to be a challenge to many drivers, with the majority of them spinning at least once during the race, resulting in multiple caution periods in the first half of the race. Originally scheduled for 98 laps, the race reached the two-hour time limit after 76 laps.

Voices of Remembrance is an outdoor 2004 art installation by Valerie Otani, installed in north Portland, Oregon's Kenton neighborhood. The work is installed at TriMet's Expo Center station along the MAX Yellow Line, which was previously the site of the 1942 Portland Assembly Center.

Expo Center is a light rail station on the MAX Yellow Line in Portland, Oregon, United States. It is the last stop northbound on the Interstate MAX extension. This station is a large park-and-ride station located on the grounds of the Portland Expo Center. It is set up as a modified side platform station, with the two platforms serving three tracks. The extra track allows the storage of an overflow train for events at the Expo Center. The 300 park-and-ride spaces are free for commuters arriving before 10 am on weekdays for a maximum 24 hours. At all other times, drivers must pay the Expo Center's usual $7–8 parking fee. Although tracks and electrification end directly inside the station, it is designed to allow a future northbound extension (to Vancouver, Washington) to be easily constructed. Both the landscaping and the artwork at the station are themed in a Japanese style. This recalls the temporary Civilian Assembly Center that existed here during the early days of World War II, which processed Japanese-Americans upon the enforcement of Executive Order 9066.
