Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge 9.6

The G. M. Standifer Construction Company was an American company that built three shipyards on the Columbia River for the World War I effort, one in Oregon and two in Washington, all within spitting distance of each other. After the war it maintained its original yard in North Portland, Oregon. The North Portland yard, and one of the Vancouver, Washington yards (located where the Red Lion at the Quay is today, just west of the Interstate Bridge) (45.62329°N 122.67847°W / 45.62329; -122.67847) produced wooden ships. The other Vancouver yard, located just west of what was then the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway bridge (now the BNSF bridge, 45.62912°N 122.69107°W / 45.62912; -122.69107) produced steel-hulled ships. The Portland yard was located about a mile to the west, just downstream from the BNSF bridge (45.60729°N 122.68569°W / 45.60729; -122.68569). Both Vancouver yards were closed in 1921.

Vancouver station is an Amtrak intercity rail station in Vancouver, Washington, United States. The station is served by four daily round trips of the Cascades, the daily Coast Starlight, and the daily Portland section of the Empire Builder. Vancouver station is located in a wye between the Fallbridge Subdivision and Seattle Subdivision, just north Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge 9.6 over the Columbia River. A side platform and narrow island platform on the west side of the station building serve the Cascades and Coast Starlight on the Seattle Subdivision, while a side platform to the east serves the Empire Builder on the Fallbridge Subdivision. The station was constructed in 1907–08 by the Northern Pacific Railroad to serve trains using the new Columbia River bridge. Service was transferred to Amtrak in 1971. A partial restoration of the station building took place in 1988, followed by a full renovation in 2008–09.

Captain George Vancouver is a 2000 bronze sculpture depicting George Vancouver by Jim Demetro, installed in Vancouver, Washington, United States. The statue, installed at the corner of Sixth and Esther streets near Esther Short Park, is 9 feet (2.7 m) tall and weighs approximately 1,500 lbs. It cost approximately $70,000 and was funded by private donors.

Jantzen Beach Amusement Park was a popular amusement park from 1928 to 1970 in Portland, Oregon, on Hayden Island in the middle of the Columbia River. "The Coney Island of the West" opened on May 26, 1928 as the largest amusement park in the nation, covering over 123 acres (50 ha) at the northern tip of Portland.

The LCI(L)-713, (a round conn, bow ramp) is located in Portland, Oregon now moored in the Swan Island Lagoon. It is currently owned and being restored by a non-profit 501c3 group, the "Amphibious Forces Memorial Museum". Built in 1944 in Neponset, Massachusetts, the ship was transferred to the Pacific Theater where it saw action in making two assault landings: Zamboanga, Philippines in March 1945 and Brunei Bay, Borneo in June 1945 (as part of the Battle of North Borneo). Purchased as war surplus initially for use as a log hauling tugboat, the engines were removed and it was relegated to a floating storage hulk in Stevenson, Washington until the late 1950s when it was abandoned and sank into the river mud on the shore of the Columbia River. In the late 1970s the ship was refloated and restoration began on the ship. LCI(L)713 has changed ownership until finally sold to the AFMM in 2003. The LCI(L) 713 has been continually restored with the goal of becoming a historically correct operating museum ship.

Jantzen Beach Center is an outdoor shopping mall located in Portland, Oregon, on Hayden Island in the Columbia River, known as Jantzen Beach SuperCenter from 1996 until about 2012. Opened in 1972 as an indoor mall, sometimes known informally as Jantzen Beach Mall, it was largely torn down in 1995–96 for big box development. The remaining enclosed portion included Ross Dress for Less, Burlington Coat Factory and Target as its anchor stores until April 2012, when renovation work began. A new one-story Target store was constructed on the property over the site of a former Barnes & Noble bookstore and restaurant, opening in October 2012.

USCGC Alert (WMEC-127) was a United States Coast Guard medium endurance cutter and was the fourth cutter to carry the name. The vessel was launched on 30 November 1926, commissioned 27 January 1927 and decommissioned 10 January 1969, later to be converted into a museum ship. The ship was located in Portland, Oregon, and was under restoration.While moored at Hayden Island, the Alert was part of a growing homeless encampment, named the "Pirates of the Columbia", due to criminal activity along the waterfront. The ship was heavily damaged by graffiti and stripped of parts. In December 2020, the encampment was broken up and the dock to the Alert removed. On the night of 31 October 2021, the Alert sank at her mooring off of Hayden Island. No cause has been determined yet.

The Oregon Slough Railroad Bridge, also known as the BNSF Railway Bridge 8.8, is a swing-span, through truss bridge in Portland, Oregon, United States. Currently owned and operated by BNSF Railway, it crosses an anabranch of the Columbia River known as North Portland Harbor and historically as the Oregon Slough. The bridge's northern end is on Hayden Island, which, along with Tomahawk Island, forms the north shore of the channel. Completed in 1908, the two-track bridge is one of only two swing bridges surviving in Portland, which once had several bridges of that type, both for road and rail traffic. The only other remaining swing bridge in the Portland area is another rail-only bridge on the same line, BNSF's nearby Bridge 9.6, spanning the Columbia River.The bridge is used regularly by freight trains of both BNSF and Union Pacific Railroad, as well as by Amtrak passenger trains on routes connecting Portland with Seattle and with Chicago via Spokane, Washington. The 8.8 in the name is the distance, in miles, from Portland's Union Station, the same as for Bridge 5.1 (across the Willamette River) and Bridge 9.6 on the same line.
