Sonoma Valley High School (SVHS) is a public high school located in Sonoma, California with approximately 1,300 students as of 2017. It was founded in 1891 and held its first commencement in 1894. It moved to its current campus in 1922. Since that time, there have been numerous additions to campus facilities. It is the only comprehensive high school in the Sonoma Valley Unified School District.By some accounts, it is about the 25th oldest continuously operating high school in California.

Sonoma City Hall is a historic municipal government building located in the Sonoma Plaza in Sonoma, California. Dedicated on September 9, 1908, the building is the city's administrative center.

The California Republic (Spanish: La República de California), or Bear Flag Republic, was an unrecognized breakaway state from Mexico, that for 25 days in 1846 militarily controlled an area north of San Francisco, in and around what is now Sonoma County in California.In June 1846, thirty-three American immigrants in Alta California who had entered without official permission rebelled against the Mexican department's government. Among their grievances were that they had not been allowed to buy or rent land and had been threatened with expulsion. Mexican officials had been concerned about a coming war with the United States and the growing influx of Americans into California. The rebellion was covertly encouraged by U.S. Army Brevet Captain John C. Frémont, and added to the troubles of the recent outbreak of the Mexican–American War. The name "California Republic" appeared only on the flag the insurgents raised in Sonoma. It indicated their aspiration of forming a republican government under their control. The rebels elected military officers but no civil structure was ever established. Their flag, featuring a silhouette of a California grizzly bear, became known as the Bear Flag and was later the basis for the official state flag of California. Three weeks later, on July 5, 1846, the Republic's military of 100 to 200 men was subsumed into the California Battalion commanded by Brevet Captain John C. Frémont. The Bear Flag Revolt and whatever remained of the "California Republic" ceased to exist on July 9 when U.S. Navy Lieutenant Joseph Revere raised the United States flag in front of the Sonoma Barracks and sent a second flag to be raised at Sutter's Fort.

Sonoma served as the base of General Vallejo's operations until the Bear Flag Revolt in 1846, when American filibusters overthrew the local Mexican government and declared the California Republic, ushering in the American Conquest of California.

Sonoma Valley Hospital is a hospital located in Sonoma, California, United States. The hospital, which has 51 beds, provides surgical and general medical procedures. The hospital started in 1945 and the current hospital opened in 1957, with expansions happening starting in the 1970s. In 2018, the hospital closed its obstetrics facilities due to a decrease in births.

Sonoma Valley Woman's Club is a historic woman's clubhouse located in Sonoma, California. It was founded in 1901 by eleven local women led by Martha Stearns. Built in 1916, the club was designed by architect Brainerd Jones from Petaluma and plays a role in the civic development of Sonoma. The Woman's Club was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 7, 2015.

Union Hotel and Union Hall Site is historical site of buildings built in 1850, in Sonoma, California in Sonoma County, California. The Union Hotel and Union Hall Site is a California Historical Landmark No. 627 listed on January 13, 1958. The original Union Hotel was a one-story adobe built by three veterans of the Mexican–American War. Next to the Union Hotel was built the Union Hall. The two buildings were lost in 1866 fire. The Union Hotel was rebuilt into a two-story stone hotel. The hotel was on the second floor and a hall was on the first floor. The Union Hotel and Union Hall were on the south side of the Sonoma Plaza. The Union Hotel was a social center of the town. United States Army soldiers such as William Tecumseh Sherman, Joseph Hooker, George Stoneman, and George Derby used the hall as gathering space. The hall also used as a theatre for plays, social, musical, and political events. The Union Hotel closed in 1955 and was sold to Bank of America, which removed the building for a new bank branch. The Union Hotel was at 35 Napa Street in Sonoma.A California historical marker is at 35 Napa Street in Sonoma, a bank parking lot with a flag poles. The historical marker for the Union Hotel and Union Hall Site, was placed there by the California Department of Parks & Recreation in working with the Sonoma Branch of Bank of America in 1982.

When Michael Bauer was food critic of the San Francisco Chronicle, Cafe La Haye was a perennial listing in his annual Top 100 restaurants list and one of his favorite restaurants in Wine Country. Cafe La Haye sources food produced within 60 miles of the restaurant.
