Sonoma is a city in Sonoma County, California, United States, located in the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. Sonoma is one of the principal cities of California's Wine Country and the center of the Sonoma Valley AVA. Sonoma's population was 10,739 as of the 2020 census, while the Sonoma urban area had a population of 32,679. Sonoma is a popular tourist destination, owing to its Californian wineries, noted events like the Sonoma International Film Festival, and its historic center. Sonoma's origins date to 1823, when José Altimira established Mission San Francisco Solano, under the direction of Governor Luis Antonio Argüello. Following the Mexican secularization of the missions, famed Californio statesman Mariano G. Vallejo founded Sonoma on the former mission's lands in 1835. Sonoma served as the base of General Vallejo's operations until the Bear Flag Revolt in 1846, when American filibusters overthrew the local Mexican government and declared the California Republic, ushering in the American Conquest of California.

Sonoma Valley Woman's Club is a historic woman's clubhouse located in Sonoma, California. It was founded in 1901 by eleven local women led by Martha Stearns. Built in 1916, the club was designed by architect Brainerd Jones from Petaluma and plays a role in the civic development of Sonoma. The Woman's Club was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on January 7, 2015.

Union Hotel and Union Hall Site is historical site of buildings built in 1850, in Sonoma, California in Sonoma County, California. The Union Hotel and Union Hall Site is a California Historical Landmark No. 627 listed on January 13, 1958. The original Union Hotel was a one-story adobe built by three veterans of the Mexican–American War. Next to the Union Hotel was built the Union Hall. The two buildings were lost in 1866 fire. The Union Hotel was rebuilt into a two-story stone hotel. The hotel was on the second floor and a hall was on the first floor. The Union Hotel and Union Hall were on the south side of the Sonoma Plaza. The Union Hotel was a social center of the town. United States Army soldiers such as William Tecumseh Sherman, Joseph Hooker, George Stoneman, and George Derby used the hall as gathering space. The hall also used as a theatre for plays, social, musical, and political events. The Union Hotel closed in 1955 and was sold to Bank of America, which removed the building for a new bank branch. The Union Hotel was at 35 Napa Street in Sonoma.A California historical marker is at 35 Napa Street in Sonoma, a bank parking lot with a flag poles. The historical marker for the Union Hotel and Union Hall Site, was placed there by the California Department of Parks & Recreation in working with the Sonoma Branch of Bank of America in 1982.

When Michael Bauer was food critic of the San Francisco Chronicle, Cafe La Haye was a perennial listing in his annual Top 100 restaurants list and one of his favorite restaurants in Wine Country. What began as the first property transfer in the new Pueblo de Sonoma and a simple adobe residence transformed with time and the addition of more rooms into a storied landmark. During the California Gold Rush it was used by miners going to and from the gold fields and by the U.S. Army soldiers stationed in Sonoma. After many years, owners and uses - the Blue Wing Inn was purchased by the State of California in 1968 and is currently under study for its best use as part of Sonoma State Historic Park.
