Bighton

Gundleton is a village in Hampshire, England. It is in the civil parish of Bighton. Its nearest railway station is the restored Watercress Line in New Alresford, about 3 miles (4.8 km) from the village. The village is notable for having taken place in the English Civil War, amongst the Battle of Cheriton.

Bishops Sutton or Bishop's Sutton is a village and civil parish one mile (1.6 km) east of the market town of Alresford in the City of Winchester district of Hampshire, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 419, increasing to 463 at the 2011 Census.

Ropley railway station is a railway station in Ropley, Hampshire, England, which opened in 1865 and reopened in 1977 after four years' closure, to be served by steam and select diesel trains on the Watercress Line which shares its terminus at Alton railway station along with the more major Alton Line.

Ropley Dean is a village in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It is 7.3 miles (11.7 km) southwest of Alton. The village has its own restored railway station on the Watercress Line. Trains from here connect with the nearest national rail station 7.3 miles (11.7 km) to the northeast, at Alton.

Alresford Pond is a 30.2-hectare (75-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest on the north side of New Alresford in Hampshire. This large lake was created by Godfrey de Lucy, who was Bishop of Winchester between 1189 and 1204, to provide a reservoir of water to make the River Itchen navigable. The lake has a rich aquatic plant community and large populations of breeding wetland birds, such as reed warblers and sedge warblers.

Old Alresford House is an 18th-century Georgian country house in Old Alresford, Hampshire, England. It is a Grade II* listed building.It was built between 1749 and 1751 for Admiral Lord Rodney on a gently sloping south facing site between the village churchyard and Alresford Pond, paid for by the riches accrued in a successful naval career fighting the French in the Caribbean. The house is constructed of brick with Bath stone dressings and slated roofs in 3 storeys and a basement. It has a 7-bay frontage with the central 3 bays slightly projecting. There are single bay flanking wings at each end with single storey service wings on both sides at the front forming a courtyard. Rodney purchased Alresford Pond in 1755 before commissioning Richard Woods to create the 16 ha (40 acres) park in 1764, which is itself now Grade II listed.

Alresford railway station ( or ) in Hampshire, England, is the terminus of the Watercress Line from Alton. It is in the small town of New Alresford, 7½ miles (12 km) northeast of Winchester, close to the town's market square, tea rooms, many small shops and museum. In official literature it is shown as Alresford (Hampshire) in order to distinguish it from the station of the same name in Essex.

Wield is a civil parish in the East Hampshire district, in the county of Hampshire, England. It includes two neighbouring villages, Upper Wield and Lower Wield. In 2021 the parish had a population of 237.The parish council meets quarterly at the parish hall in Upper Wield.Wield as a civil parish is separate from the church parish. The parish church, dedicated to St James, is also in Upper Wield. It is mainly Norman, and is a Grade I listed building.

New Alresford or simply Alresford ( OLZ-fərd or AWLZ-fərd) is a market town and civil parish in the City of Winchester district of Hampshire, England. It is 8.0 miles (12.9 km) northeast of Winchester and 12 miles (20 km) southwest of the town of Alton. New Alresford has several shops, a tourist information centre, a central conservation area, several tea rooms and pubs. The Western terminus of the Watercress Line heritage railway is at Alresford railway station in the town.

Old Alresford ( OLZ-fərd or AWLZ-fərd) is a village and civil parish in Hampshire, England. It is 1 km (0.6 miles) north of the town of New Alresford, 12 km (7 miles) northeast of the city of Winchester, and 14 km (9 miles) south-west of the town of Alton. Alresford Pond is a large water feature south of Old Alresford and north of New Alresford. In 1851, George Sumner, son of Charles Richard Sumner (Bishop of Winchester), became rector of the parish. There his wife, Mary Sumner, started the Mothers' Union, now a global organisation of Anglican women. The first meetings were held in the rectory, now a conference centre known as Old Alresford Place. In 1986, following the closure of the village school and post office, The Old Alresford Dramatic Society (T.O.A.D.S.) was founded as a way of bringing the village together. They perform a pantomime in December each year and a Spring Show, usually in May. St Mary the Virgin parish church is a brick building dating from the 1750s. The naval hero George Brydges Rodney, 1st Baron Rodney, is buried in the church. His family seat, Old Alresford House, is next to the church. Also in the churchyard is the mausoleum of C. F. G. R. Schwerdt, an art collector, who died in 1939.

Alresford Community Centre, formerly Alresford Town Hall, is a municipal building in West Street, New Alresford, Hampshire, England. The structure, which is now used as a community events venue, is a Grade II listed building.
