Old Alresford

Old Alresford House is an 18th-century Georgian country house in Old Alresford, Hampshire, England. It is a Grade II* listed building.It was built between 1749 and 1751 for Admiral Lord Rodney on a gently sloping south facing site between the village churchyard and Alresford Pond, paid for by the riches accrued in a successful naval career fighting the French in the Caribbean. The house is constructed of brick with Bath stone dressings and slated roofs in 3 storeys and a basement. It has a 7-bay frontage with the central 3 bays slightly projecting. There are single bay flanking wings at each end with single storey service wings on both sides at the front forming a courtyard. Rodney purchased Alresford Pond in 1755 before commissioning Richard Woods to create the 16 ha (40 acres) park in 1764, which is itself now Grade II listed.

The Wayfarer's Walk is a 71 mile long distance footpath in England from Walbury Hill, Berkshire to Emsworth, Hampshire. The north-west end is at the car park on top of Walbury Hill, near to the landmark Combe Gibbet, and the south-east end is Emsworth town square. The footpath approximates an ancient route that might have been used by drovers taking cattle for export. It passes through the towns of New Alresford, Droxford, Hambledon, Havant and Emsworth and the villages of North Oakley, Deane, Dummer, Brown Candover, Abbotstone, Cheriton, Hinton Ampner, Kilmeston, Soberton, and Denmead. By the path is a memorial to the first flight of Geoffrey de Havilland. The footpath also passes close to Watership Down, Hampshire. The footpath is waymarked by metal and plastic disks found attached to wooden and metal posts, trees and street furniture, and where this isn't possible stickers on lampposts etc. It has also spawned several circular routes that use sections of the main footpath. These are also waymarked. This route is shown as a series of green diamonds on Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 maps and as a series of red diamonds on Ordnance Survey 1:50,000 maps. Walbury Hill is also the start of the Test Way and is the start of the Combe Gibbet to Overton 16 Mile Trail Race, the first 11 miles of its route being on Wayfarer's Walk.

Alresford Pond is a 30.2-hectare (75-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest on the north side of New Alresford in Hampshire. This large lake was created by Godfrey de Lucy, who was Bishop of Winchester between 1189 and 1204, to provide a reservoir of water to make the River Itchen navigable. The lake has a rich aquatic plant community and large populations of breeding wetland birds, such as reed warblers and sedge warblers.

Itchin Stoke Down is a rural location near the town of Alresford in Hampshire. It was used as a venue for 13 first-class cricket matches between 1778 and 1806 and as the home of the Alresford Cricket Club. Itchin Stoke Down is first referenced as the venue for the Hambledon Club v Hambledon Parish match in May 1778. The first first-class match known to have taken place on the Down was between Hampshire and All-England in July of the same year.The Down was used as an occasional venue by Hampshire teams from then until the beginning of the 19th century and it survived the Hambledon Club. It was still in use for a Hampshire v All-England match as late as 1806, which was several years after the demise of Hambledon.

New Alresford or simply Alresford ( OLZ-fərd or AWLZ-fərd) is a market town and civil parish in the City of Winchester district of Hampshire, England. It is 8.0 miles (12.9 km) northeast of Winchester and 12 miles (20 km) southwest of the town of Alton. New Alresford has several shops, a tourist information centre, a central conservation area, several tea rooms and pubs. The Western terminus of the Watercress Line heritage railway is at Alresford railway station in the town.

Alresford railway station ( or ) in Hampshire, England, is the terminus of the Watercress Line from Alton. It is in the small town of New Alresford, 7½ miles (12 km) northeast of Winchester, close to the town's market square, tea rooms, many small shops and museum. In official literature it is shown as Alresford (Hampshire) in order to distinguish it from the station of the same name in Essex.

Fobdown is a hamlet in Hampshire, England. It lies 2 miles (3.2 km) north-west from New Alresford. It is in the civil parish of Old Alresford.

The River Alre (also, occasionally, Arle) is a tributary of the River Itchen in Hampshire in the south of England. It rises in Bishop's Sutton and flows west for 6 km (3.7 mi) to meet the Itchen below New Alresford. The river is a classic English chalk stream with a shallow gravel bed and fast flowing waters, fed year-round by chalk springs. Through Bishop's Sutton it forms a good natural trout fishery and later supports a watercress harvest after which the Watercress Line, a heritage steam railway, is named.
