Port of Tyne

Tyneside is a built-up area across the banks of the River Tyne in northern England. Residents of the area are commonly referred to as Geordies. The whole area is surrounded by the North East Green Belt. The population of Tyneside as published in the 2011 census was 774,891, making it the eighth most-populous urban area in the United Kingdom. In 2013, the estimated population was 832,469.Politically, the area is mainly covered by the metropolitan boroughs of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Gateshead, North Tyneside and South Tyneside. The boroughs on the Tyne are joint with Wearside which is in both the counties of Durham (Chester-le-Street) and Tyne and Wear.

Tyne Renewable Energy Plant (or Tyne REP) is a proposed biomass power station, to be built on the north bank of the River Tyne at North Shields. The plant has been developed by MGT Power, along with their similar project, the Teesport Renewable Energy Plant on Teesside. It is expected to have a generating capacity of 295 megawatts, enough to power around 600,000 homes, making it one of the biggest of its kind in Europe. It is hoped the plant will be opened in 2014, costing £400 million.The plant would be built on a 14 acres (5.7 ha) industrial site at the Port of Tyne in North Shields adjacent to the proposed North Shields Bio Diesel Plant on the north bank of the River Tyne. The construction of the plant would create around 600 jobs, as well as 150 full-time jobs once the plant was completed, and 300 to 400 indirect jobs in the supply chain. There would be an annual spend of £30 million in the local economy.

Royal Quays is an area of North Shields, North Tyneside, England, beside the River Tyne. Built on the site of former docks, and containing the pre-existing North Shields International Ferry Terminal, the area was renamed Royal Quays in 1990 and redeveloped with housing, a shopping centre, Brewers Fayre restaurant, large public parks and a water park known as Wet n Wild. A Premier Inn hotel, sports centre, ten-pin bowling complex and a trampolining centre are also part of the development.

Wet N Wild was an indoor water park situated in North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England. It was the United Kingdom's largest indoor water park when opened in 1993, a title subsequently claimed by Sandcastle Waterpark. The park was situated in the Royal Quays complex, and featured numerous slides, a wave machine, and rapids. It was confirmed Wet N Wild would reopen following a takeover by Moirai Capital Investments. As of 2020, the park has once again closed. It is currently unknown if it will reopen as a waterpark

Tyne Dock is a neighbourhood within the town of South Shields, North East England, on the south bank of the River Tyne. It takes its name from the large dock on the river which was opened in 1859 by the North Eastern Railway (and acquired by the Tyne Improvement Commission in 1938) to handle Tyneside's coal exports. At its height the trade amounted to seven million tons of coal transported via the four staiths which had been built to facilitate the process. This trade declined in the second half of the twentieth century and the bridges that carried the coal trains into the dock, the famous Tyne Dock Arches, were demolished in the early 1980s. The dock itself has been progressively infilled since closure, allowing for the building of modern storage warehouses. This process concluded with the final 13 acres that were filled in as part of the project to build the second Tyne Tunnel. The Tyne Dock basin was filled with 400,000 cubic metres of sediment dredged from the Tyne.Tyne Dock Metro station, on the Tyne & Wear Metro, serves the Tyne Dock area, as well as neighbouring West Harton.

The River Don is a 15.4 kilometres (9.6 mi) long tributary of the River Tyne in Tyne and Wear, North East England.It rises near Springwell and flows east for about 6 km, then turns north. It flows under the Jarrow Bridge and meets the river Tyne at Jarrow. For much of its length in the upper section, it is the boundary between Gateshead and Sunderland.

Bede is a Tyne and Wear Metro station, serving the town of Jarrow, South Tyneside in Tyne and Wear, England. It joined the network on 24 March 1984, following the opening of the fifth phase of the network, between Heworth and South Shields. The station is named after the Venerable Bede – a monk who established the nearby St. Paul's Monastery during the seventh century.

St Paul's Church, Jarrow, is a Church of England parish church in the Parish of Jarrow and Simonside. It was founded in 681 as a part of the Monkwearmouth–Jarrow Abbey. Most of the church is later but the chancel is the remains of a free-standing chapel of the original monastery. On an inner wall of the tower is a dedication stone dating to 23 April 685 making this one of, if not the oldest, church dedication stones in England. It is dedicated to St Paul on 15th year of King Ecgfrith and in the 4th year of the Abbot Ceolfrith. The remains and markers for some of the later (medieval) abbey can be found in the church ground. The nave and the north aisle were built by Sir George Gilbert Scott. There is, in addition to the older windows, including a few pieces of Anglo-Saxon stained glass, a more modern window by John Piper (1903–92).The church also has on display Bede’s Chair (but evidence suggests that this originated after Bede's death).

John Readhead & Sons was a shipyard on the River Tyne in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, England founded in 1865.

Jarrow is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Kate Osborne of the Labour Party.The seat was created in the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885.

Jarrow Hall (formerly Bede's World) is a museum in Jarrow, South Tyneside, England which celebrates the life of the Venerable Bede; a monk, author and scholar who lived in at the Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Wearmouth-Jarrow, a double monastery at Jarrow and Monkwearmouth, (today part of Sunderland), England. The site features a museum dedicated to the life and times of the famous monk, with other features and attractions – including a reconstructed Anglo-Saxon farm and the 18th-century Georgian building Jarrow Hall House itself – reflected in a calendar of activities, including special themed events, an educational programme for schools and heritage skills workshops, alongside space for businesses and events.

Jarrow Hall is a grade II listed building in Jarrow, Northeast England, and part of the larger Jarrow Hall museum site. It was built around 1785 by local businessman Simon Temple; he later went bankrupt in 1812 after a series of poor investments. The hall then passed through a number of hands before being let to the Shell Mex company in 1920, and then the Jarrow Council in 1935. The Council used the hall for a storage depot, eventually letting the building become derelict and in threat of demolition. It was rescued by the St Paul's Development Trust, which funded a £50,000 restoration project. The hall then became the Bede Monastery Museum in 1974, as a means of exhibiting information about local scholar the Venerable Bede - the location of the hall next to St Paul's Church - part of the Monkwearmouth-Jarrow Abbey - meant it was an ideal location for the new museum. The Bede Monastery Museum became part of Bede's World which operated from 1993 to 2016, and is now part of Jarrow Hall - Anglo-Saxon Farm, Village and Bede Museum.The hall is now used as the cafe for visitors to the museum and also houses the museum offices. A permanent exhibition entitled 'The Many Faces of Jarrow Hall' chronicles the lives of previous residents of the hall.Adjacent to the hall is the grade II listed Jarrow Bridge which crosses the River Don, and once carried the main road to South Shields.
