Aylesham

Aylesham railway station is on the Dover branch of the Chatham Main Line in England, and serves the village of Aylesham, Kent. It is 68 miles 66 chains (110.8 km) down the line from London Victoria and is situated between Adisham and Snowdown. The station and all trains that call are operated by Southeastern. It was built by the Southern Railway and opened on 1 July 1928 to cater for the considerable increase in passenger traffic brought about by the development of the Kent coalfield. The main station buildings are on the London-bound side of the station. The station booking office is staffed on Mondays to Saturdays mornings and a self-service ticket machine is located on the London-bound platform.

The station and all trains that serve the station are operated by Southeastern. There are brick buildings on the country-bound platform, formerly in railway use but now privately occupied, and a wooden shelter on the London-bound platform. The country-bound platform is accessible by road and the London-bound by public footpath. There is a connecting footbridge. The station is unstaffed. There is a help point on each platform, electronic departure boards were added in May 2016 and a ticket machine (accepting credit/debit cards) in October the same year.

It is 69 miles 60 chains (112.3 km) down the line from London Victoria and is situated between Aylesham and Shepherds Well. The station and all trains that call are operated by Southeastern. The station and the line it serves was built by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway, and the station was opened in 1914. It was formerly known as Snowdown & Nonington Halt and formed the junction with the extensive sidings of the National Coal Board at Snowdown Colliery. In 2016–17 and 2017–18 Snowdown was the second least used railway station in Kent. and 2022-2023 is the least used station in Kent

Woolage Village is a former mining village situated midway between Canterbury and Dover in the English county of Kent. It is 1 mile (1.6 km) to the east of the A2 road. Together with Womenswold and Woolage Green, it forms Womenswold parish. It consists of approximately 52 semi-detached houses built in 1912, to house miners and their families working at the nearby Snowdown Colliery. The village shop and post office was shut in the 1990s and converted to a dwelling.

Womenswold is a village and civil parish centred 7 miles (11 km) south-east of Canterbury, Kent, England, 1 mile to the east of the A2 road. The parish consists of three hamlets: Womenswold, Woolage Village and Woolage Green. Historically, Womenswold has been recorded with various spellings, including Wymynswold and Wimlingswold. A further one may be Wymelyngewolde Originally 'Wymelyngewolde', from the combination of the possible personal name of ‘Wimel’ and the Old English ‘ingas’ meaning the ‘people of’ and ‘wald’ as a ‘forest’. Thus Womanswold, or 'Wymelyngewolde', means the ‘forest of the people of Wimel’. The church of St, Margaret of Antioch covers all three hamlets, in Womenswold proper rather than the woodland, cereal and pasture fields within its bounds. A small mediaeval building without any side aisles, it is part of the Barham Downs group of churches.

Nonington (variously, Nonnington, Nunyngton, Nonnyngton and Nunnington), is a civil parish and village in east Kent, halfway between the historic city of Canterbury and the channel port town of Dover. The civil parish includes the hamlets of Easole Street, to which it is conjoined, Holt Street and Frogham. The 2021 census gives the population of the parish as 920. The area of the parish at 31 December 2020 is 2,510 acres (1,020 ha).

Ileden and Oxenden Woods is an 86.4-hectare (213-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) south-east of Canterbury in Kent. It is in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is located in Adisham parish.The SSSI incorporates six named woods. From north to south, these are Oxenden Wood, Pitt Wood, Woodlands Wood, Boughtonland Wood, Well Wood and Ileden Wood.These woods have a variety of soil types and diverse habitats. There is a rich bird community and ground flora, including two nationally rare orchids, narrow-lipped helleborine and lady orchid.Public footpaths go through the woods.

Goodnestone Park is a stately home and gardens in the southern part of the village of Goodnestone, Dover, Kent. It is approximately 7 miles (11 km) from Canterbury. The Palladian house was built in 1704 by Brook Bridges, 1st Baronet. His grandson, Brook Bridges' daughter, Elizabeth, married Jane Austen's brother, and Austen visited them on the estate regularly. Goodnestone House is a Grade II* listed building, enlisted on 13 October 1952. The 15 acres (6.1 ha) gardens are considered to be amongst the finest in southeastern England. Previously the seat of the Bridges Baronets, it is now owned by their heirs, the Barons FitzWalter.

Frogham is a hamlet in the Dover District of East Kent, England, between Canterbury and Dover. It is located between the former coal mining village of Aylesham and Shepherdswell. It is near the site of the former Snowdown colliery. In published statistics, the population of the hamlet is included in the civil parish of Nonington.
