Santa María de Cayón

Club Deportivo Cayón is a Spanish football club based in Santa María de Cayón, in the autonomous community of Cantabria. Founded in 1915, it plays in Segunda Federación – Group 1, holding home games at Estadio Fernando Astobiza, which has a capacity of 2,700 spectators.

Sarón is the largest town in Santa María de Cayón, a municipality in Cantabria, Spain. It was founded in 1876 in a road intersection by a landowner from nearby La Abadilla, whose name was Antonio Saro y Galbán. The name of the town comes from his first surname. In the town of La Penilla, 2 kilometres away, there is a Nestlé factory, which was the first one to open in Spain in 1905. One of the oldest buildings still standing in Sarón is the market, built in 1929. As of 2020, its population was 3 220 people, of which 50.7% are male and 49.3% female.

Cabárceno Natural Park (Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabarceno (Obregon)) is a zoo and nature reserve located in the town of Penagos, Spain, 17 kilometres (11 mi) south of Santander.The park is located in a former open-pit iron mine on a karstic landscape consisting of 750 hectares. It now belongs to Cantur, a tourism company owned by the government of Cantabria. The Cabárceno Natural Park has two main purposes: the conservation of endangered species and environmental education.

Guarnizo is a village in the municipality of El Astillero (Real Astillero de Guarnizo) in Cantabria, Spain. According to the INE it had a population of 4,463 in 2010.

El Astillero (English: "The Shipyard") is a town and municipality in the province and autonomous community of Cantabria, northern Spain. It is near the provincial capital of Santander, and it is known for its shipyard, and for hosting of Spanish national Rowing Championships. Its location is geographically defined by the estuaries that surround it. It is located between the municipalities of Camargo (formerly part of El Astillero), Villaescusa, Piélagos, Medio Cudeyo and Marina de Cudeyo. Located at the foot of Peña Cabarga, is 7.5 kilometres away from the capital, Santander, and is 20 metres above sea level. The confluence of the rivers and the coast of the bay is a large expanse of wetlands where various migratory birds nest throughout the year. The municipality covers an area of 6.80 km.

Unión Montañesa Escobedo is a Spanish football team based in Escobedo, Camargo, in the autonomous community of Cantabria. Founded in 1917 it plays in Tercera Federación – Group 3, holding home matches at Estadio Eusebio Arce.

Maliaño is a village in the municipality of Camargo (Cantabria, Spain). The town is located near the Bay of Santander, 5 km from the regional capital. It is the location of the regionally significant Santander Airport. The population in the year 2004 was 7,301 (INE) and it raised to 9,563 inhabitants in 2009. In 2012 9.657 inhabitants.Maliaño is geographically divided in two parts, the Alto Maliaño (High Maliaño) and Bajo Maliaño (Low Maliaño). Maliaño Alto is the location of the Church of San Juan Bautista, where the sepulchre of the Spanish Renaissance architect, Juan de Herrera, is located.

Puente Viesgo is a municipality in Cantabria, Spain. Caves have been discovered near Puente Viesgo that contain rock art and artefacts dating back to the Middle and Upper Paleolithic.

The Caves of Monte Castillo, located in the Cantabrian town of Puente Viesgo, contain one of the most important Paleolithic sites in the region. The complex of karstic caves is on the slopes of Monte Castillo, a hill south of Puente Viesgo, with an elevation of 354 m. It includes four out of the eighteen caves listed as World Heritage of UNESCO since July 2008 under the title of Cave of Altamira and Paleolithic Cave Art of Northern Spain: El Castillo, Las Chimeneas, and La Pasiega and Las Monedas. In addition, the complex includes a minor fifth cave, La Flecha. The caves are located along the Pas river in the Castillo mountain, squarely at the intersection of three valleys and near the coast. The El Castillo cave contains decorations in red ochre in the forms of hand stencils dated to about 35,000. One red disk in El Castillo has been dated to before 40,000 years ago in a 2012 study, making it the oldest known dated cave decoration. The Cave of El Castillo was discovered in 1903 by Hermilio Alcalde del Río. It was first explored and excavated by Hugo Obermaier. The Cueva de Las Monedas was discovered in 1952. It was explored by Eduardo Ripoll Perelló (1923–2006). The cave is named for a number of 16th-century coins found inside. The paintings in this cave date to the Magdalenian, about 13,000 years ago, depicting horses, goats, bears, bison and reindeer.
