Guarnizo

El Astillero (English: "The Shipyard") is a town and municipality in the province and autonomous community of Cantabria, northern Spain. It is near the provincial capital of Santander, and it is known for its shipyard, and for hosting of Spanish national Rowing Championships. Its location is geographically defined by the estuaries that surround it. It is located between the municipalities of Camargo (formerly part of El Astillero), Villaescusa, Piélagos, Medio Cudeyo and Marina de Cudeyo. Located at the foot of Peña Cabarga, is 7.5 kilometres away from the capital, Santander, and is 20 metres above sea level. The confluence of the rivers and the coast of the bay is a large expanse of wetlands where various migratory birds nest throughout the year. The municipality covers an area of 6.80 km.

In 2012 9.657 inhabitants.Maliaño is geographically divided in two parts, the Alto Maliaño (High Maliaño) and Bajo Maliaño (Low Maliaño). Maliaño Alto is the location of the Church of San Juan Bautista, where the sepulchre of the Spanish Renaissance architect, Juan de Herrera, is located.

Cultural Deportiva Guarnizo is a Spanish football team based in Guarnizo, El Astillero, in the autonomous community of Cantabria. Founded in 1922, it plays in Tercera Federación – Group 3, holding home games at Estadio El Pilar, which has a capacity of 2,700 spectators.

Cabárceno Natural Park (Parque de la Naturaleza de Cabarceno (Obregon)) is a zoo and nature reserve located in the town of Penagos, Spain, 17 kilometres (11 mi) south of Santander.The park is located in a former open-pit iron mine on a karstic landscape consisting of 750 hectares. It now belongs to Cantur, a tourism company owned by the government of Cantabria. The Cabárceno Natural Park has two main purposes: the conservation of endangered species and environmental education.

The Battle of Santander was fought in the War in the North campaign of the Spanish Civil War during the summer of 1937. Santander's fall on 26 August assured the Nationalist conquest of the province of Santander, now Cantabria. The battle devastated the Republic's "Army of the North"; 60,000 soldiers were captured by the Nationalists.

The Parliament of Cantabria, is the unicameral legislature of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria. It consists of 35 members called "deputies" which are freely elected by the citizens of the region. The Parliament convenes at the Saint Raphael Hospital, an 18th century building in the City of Santander rehabilitated in the 1980s to house the Regional Assembly. Prior to 1998, the Parliament was called Regional Assembly of Cantabria. Following the 2023 Cantabrian regional election, the People's Party has the plurality of seats and is the governing party.
