Palazzo Borromeo (Milan)

L.O.V.E., commonly known as Il Dito (Italian for "The Finger") is a modern sculpture of a hand with all the fingers severed with the exception of the middle finger. The sculpture is located in Piazza degli Affari in (Milan), the square where the Italian stock exchange is located. The name L.O.V.E. is the acronym of Libertà, Odio, Vendetta, Eternità ("Freedom, Hatred, Revenge, Eternity"), symbolized by the obscene gesture. The sculpture, built in 2010, was supposed to remain in the square for just two weeks, but it is still present today.The creator, Maurizio Cattelan, never disclosed the exact meaning of the sculpture, stating that the meaning is in the imagination of everyone. The two most common explanations are that it represents an erosion of the Fascist salute and that it is a protest against financial institutions after the financial crisis of 2007–2008. Indeed, the sculpture is in front of the Palazzo Mezzanotte, a building built during fascism and today hosting the Italian stock exchange.

Palazzo Mezzanotte, also known as Palazzo delle Borse ("Stock Exchange Palace") is a 20th-century building of Milan, Italy, and the seat of the Italian stock exchange. It is located in Piazza Affari ("Business Square"), the city square after which the Italian stock exchange itself is nicknamed. The name "Palazzo Mezzanotte" is a reference to Paolo Mezzanotte, the architect who designed the building.

San Tomaso in Terramara is a Neoclassical architecture, Roman Catholic church in Milan, Italy. Construction at the site began in the 11th century; the present structure with an imposing facade designed by Gerolamo Arganini was completed in 1827.

Santa Maria alla Porta is a church in Milan, Italy. Although a church already stood in the same Milanese location since before the year 1105, the present church was erected in 1652 under Spanish rule. It was designed by architect Francesco Maria Richini, and after his death in 1658, the project was completed by Francesco Castelli—the original architect and engineer from Mendrisiotto (not to be confused with Francesco Castelli, colloquially known as "il Borromini") responsible for the construction of the Baroque gate and of the towering tympanum. The church owes its toponym "alla porta" [at the gate] to its construction where the old Porta Vercellina stood, as part of the wall erected in the Republican era by Augustus. The road facing the church, via Santa Maria alla Porta, was part of the decumanus (the east/west oriented road) that led from San Sepolcro Square to Porta Vercellina. It is a parish church in the Archdiocese of Milan which serves the Polish-Milanese community.

Palazzo Castani is a historic building located in the centre of Milan, at Piazza San Sepolcro 9, and today houses the Commissariato Centro of the Polizia di Stato. It was the national headquarters of the Partito Nazional Fascista from 1921 to 1924, and of the Partito Fascista Repubblicano from 1943 to 1945.

San Giorgio al Palazzo is a baroque-style, Roman Catholic church in central Milan, region of Lombardy, Italy.

The Piazza San Sepolcro is a piazza in the center of Milan not far from the Piazza del Duomo. During the Roman period the piazza was the forum at the intersection of the cardo and the decumanus. In 1030 the Church of San Sepolcro was founded, giving the piazza its name. On March 23, 1919 Benito Mussolini founded the Fasci di combattimento at a rally held at the piazza. Participants of this rally were known as sansepolcristi, and were granted special privileges under the regime. The square was adjacent to the Palazzo Castani, the national headquarters of the Partito Nazional Fascista from 1921 to 1924, and of the Partito Fascista Repubblicano from 1943 to 1945. The term Sansepolcrismo, however, pointed to the original spirit of the movement of Fasci di combattimento in which, alongside nationalist ideas and combative myths, there were strong instances of social palingenesis, egalitarianism and even republican components. Futurist poet Filippo Tommaso Marinetti composed "Il poema dei sansepolcristi" in commemoration of the event.

Chiesa di San Sepolcro is a church in Milan, Italy. It was originally built in 1030, but has undergone multiple revisions. The church is located at Piazza San Sepolcro in the historic center of Milan. The latest interior restoration was in 1713–1719, while the present Neo-Romanesque facade was completed in 1894–1897, under the designs of Gaetano Moretti and Cesare Nava. The Bramantino frescoes were moved from the portal to the inside of the church. Other works inside are attributed to Francesco Maria Richini and Carlo Bellosio.

The Biblioteca Ambrosiana is a historic library in Milan, Italy, also housing the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the Ambrosian art gallery. Named after Ambrose, the patron saint of Milan, it was founded in 1609 by Cardinal Federico Borromeo, whose agents scoured Western Europe and even Greece and Syria for books and manuscripts. Some major acquisitions of complete libraries were the manuscripts of the Benedictine monastery of Bobbio (1606) and the library of the Paduan Vincenzo Pinelli, whose more than 800 manuscripts filled 70 cases when they were sent to Milan and included the famous Iliad, the Ilias Picta.

Early Christian churches in Milan are the first churches built immediately after the Edict of Milan (Edictum Mediolanense) in February 313, issued by Constantine the Great and Licinius, which granted tolerance and religious liberty to Christianity within the Roman Empire.
