Mário Quintana is a neighbourhood (bairro) in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. Created by Law 8258 from December 22, 1998, it was named in honour of poet Mário Quintana, who had died four years before. The occupation of Mario Quintana dates from 1896, but there were few dwellers until the 1960s, when the City Hall started to transfer masses of poor people from shantytowns in Porto Alegre to this neighbourhood. In the 1980s, authorities begun to finance some infrastructure and housing projects. In 1991, the Chico Mendes Park was created. Today, the economic inequality among the population in Mario Quintana is quite conspicuous, as we can find slums next to gated communities.

Alvorada is a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in the south of Brazil, adjacent to the capital of the state, Porto Alegre. The city is also known as "The Capital of Solidarity." Alvorada is primarily a bedroom community with most workers commuting to adjacent cities such as Porto Alegre to work. Its name means "the awakening" or "the sunrise". Although improvements have been made, the city suffers from heavy crime and squatting. The largest of these slums or favelas is the dangerous Umbu subdivision. Drug and arms trafficking are punctuated by periodic violence.

Jardim Lindoia is a neighbourhood (bairro) in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. It was created by Law 2022 from December 7, 1959. In 1945, Arno Friedrich started to divide his large property in Jardim Lindoia into many lots. According to the chronicler Ary Veiga Sanhudo, the name of the neighbourhood was chosen by Friedrich to make a tribute to "Lindoia", the heroine from "O Uraguai", by José Basílio da Gama. The word means "beautiful" in Guarani language. Jardim Lindoia is a middle class residential neighbourhood in Porto Alegre.

Cristo Redentor (literally Christ the Redeemer in English) is a neighbourhood (bairro) in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. It was created by Law 2022 from December 7, 1959. The first inhabitants of this neighbourhood were Italian immigrants from Caxias do Sul. One of them was Giacomo Bernardi, who owned 30 hectare farm in the area, called Fazenda Moderna. Later it was divided into many lots. Cristo Redentor was named after its church, which was built in 1933, just two years after the inauguration of the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro. Two hospitals of Porto Alegre are located here.

The Porto Alegre Brazil Temple is the 102nd operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The Porto Alegre Temple overlooks the city from the east toward a large river and port for which the city is named. It has an exterior of white granite and a single spire topped with a statue of the angel Moroni. The temple has a total of 10,700 square feet (990 m2), two ordinance rooms, and two sealing rooms.

It has a department of study of vertebrate paleontology which has made great contributions to the geopark of Paleorrota. The unit is also responsible for the maintenance of three museums, the Journal of Research in Geosciences, and post-graduate education and research.

Chácara das Pedras (literally Farmstead of the Stones in English) is a neighbourhood (bairro) in the city of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. It was created by Law 2022 from December 7, 1959. Chácara das Pedras was occupied for the first time during the end of the 19th century, but the population remained low until the 1950s, when it became a residential area. With the establishment of the Iguatemi shopping, the area increased its value, and now most of its buildings are upper and upper middle class houses. Moreover, there are many squares in this neighbourhood, and its streets are relatively quiet, aside from Nilo Peçanha Avenue.
