Kirtling Tower

Kirtling, together with Kirtling Green and Kirtling Towers, is a scattered settlement in the south-eastern edge of the English county of Cambridgeshire. It forms a civil parish with the nearby village of Upend to its north. The population of the settlement is included in the civil parish of Woodditton.

Upend is a hamlet in the east of Cambridgeshire. It is five miles (8.0 km) south-east of Newmarket and lies in the same parish as Kirtling. Until the 15th century Upend was called Upheme which is old English for "the up-dwelling". Upend may once have been a separate village but it had been absorbed into Kirtling at some time before 1066.The population of Upend in 2013 was 70. As the population at the 2011 census was less than 100 the population is included in the civil parish of Kirtling.

Ashley is a village and civil parish in the East Cambridgeshire district of Cambridgeshire, England, about 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Newmarket. The modern village consists of the two ancient parishes of Ashley and Silverley. Ashley covers 2,250 acres (910 ha) and in the 2011 census had a population of 749. Ashley is in the electoral area of Cheveley ward.

The village of Cheveley is situated in the county of Cambridgeshire and lies about four miles east-south-east of the market town of Newmarket. The population of the civil parish was 1,990 at the 2011 Census. Cheveley falls within the local government district of East Cambridgeshire. Geographically, Cheveley stands on the third highest point in Cambridgeshire at 127 metres (417 ft) above sea level. The hamlet of Cheveley Park, a mile from Cheveley, is the home of Cheveley Park Stud.

Woodditton is a village and civil parish in East Cambridgeshire, England. The other settlements in the parish are Ditton Green, Little Ditton and Saxon Street. At the time of the 2001 census, the parish's population (including Kirtling) was 1,789. In 2011, the population was recorded as 1,818.Woodditton lies at the southeastern end of the Devil's Dyke, a defensive earthwork thought to be of Anglo-Saxon origin. The Lord of the Manor of Woodditton in the later 16th century was Sir Robert Cotton, Knt., a younger son of the Lord of the Manor of Landwade, Cambridgshire.

Ten Wood is a 17.7-hectare (44-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Burrough Green in Cambridgeshire.This ancient wood is of the ash/maple type, which has a high conservation value as it has a restricted and declining distribution. Other trees include hazel and pedunculate oak. There is also a population of the rare oxlip.The site is private land with no public access.

Cheveley Castle was a medieval fortified manor house near Cheveley, Cambridgeshire, England.

Cheveley Park Stud is a thoroughbred racehorse ownership and breeding operation in Newmarket, Suffolk, UK, which has bred and owned many notable horses. It is the oldest stud in Newmarket, the "capital" of British racing, with evidence of horse breeding on the site for over a thousand years, and became famous in the early nineteenth century.

Castle Newnham School is a mixed all-through school located over two sites in Bedford, Bedfordshire, England.The school was formed in January 2016 from the merger of Castle Lower School on Goldington Road and Newnham Middle School on Polhill Avenue. The new school has also expanded its age range up to 16. In addition, Hazeldene Lower School on Stancliffe Road has formed a soft federation with Castle Newnham School, with graduating pupils from Hazeldene Lower School expected to attend Castle Newnham School. It used to be Newnham Middle School which was made in the 1960s.

Beech House Stud is an English Thoroughbred racehorse breeding farm located on Cheveley Road near Newmarket, Suffolk currently owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Shadwell Racing operation. Originally a land parcel within the Cheveley Park Stud of Col. Harry L. B. McCalmont, it was purchased by Charles Hackford who sold it in 1930 to Martin H. Benson. Benson developed Beech House Stud into a major breeding operation. Among the sires he owned was Windsor Lad, winner of the 1934 Epsom Derby and St. Leger Stakes and in 1935, the Coronation Cup and Eclipse Stakes. In 1938, Benson purchased the unbeaten Italian-bred Nearco from owner/breeder Federico Tesio for £60,000. The Leading sire in Great Britain & Ireland in 1947 and 1949, and one of the most important sires of the 20th century, Nearco's enduring legacy stems primarily from three of his sons: Nasrullah, Royal Charger, and Nearctic who sired Northern Dancer. In 1960, Beech House Stud became part of the substantial Thoroughbred racing holdings of Sir Victor Sassoon whose Epsom Derby winners Crepello and St. Paddy stood at stud here. Sassoon died in 1961 and although his widow continued the racing operations for a time, eventually Beech House Stud was sold to the Italian banker Carlo Vittadini, notably the owner of Grundy. Out and Plunder Woods is a 38.6 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Great Bradley and Burrough Green in Cambridgeshire.These woods on boulder clay have been little modified since the medieval period, which has allowed the development of a diverse fauna and flora, and grassy trails provide additional habitats. The main trees are ash, field maple and pedunculate oak, and herbs include sweet violet and early dog-violet.The site is in two blocks, with Out Wood and Sparrows Grove in one, and the smaller Plunder Wood in the other. They are private property, but a public footpath goes through the site between Out Wood and Sparrows Grove.
