El Boalo is a Spanish village of around 8200 inhabitants, 52 km (32 mi) north west of Madrid, in the Community of Madrid.

La Pedriza is a geological feature on the southern slopes of the Guadarrama mountain range of great scenic and leisure interest. Access is from Manzanares el Real, a municipality in the northwest of the Community of Madrid (Spain). Geological forces have created a remarkable boulder field of strangely eroded granitic outcrops, and nearly a thousand rock climbing routes of all difficulties are available to rock climbers, making it an immensely popular locale for rock climbers, especially due to its proximity to Madrid. Hiking is also popular in La Pedriza, especially on weekends. It is formed by two sub-units: La Pedriza posterior (reaching heights up to 2029 metres above sea level on Las Torres) and La Pedriza anterior, topped by El Yelmo (1719 m).It is one of the largest granitic ranges of Europe and holds numerous peaks, rocky cliffs, streams and meadows. The 32 square kilometres occupied by La Pedriza lies within the Regional Park of the high river basin of the Manzanares, the largest park of the Community of Madrid. In this zone, vegetation is sparse, but there are Mediterranean shrubs like the rockrose, and alpine varieties like fabaceaes. The fauna is rich in birds of prey; the breeding colony of over 100 pairs of griffon vultures is the largest in the Madrid area. This natural area has been the scene of some movie shootings such as El Cid, The Fall of the Roman Empire, or Conan the Barbarian.

The Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park, created in 1985, is the natural space protected area with the largest extension in the Community of Madrid (Spain) and one of the most ecologically and scenically valuable. It is located in the northwest of the region and extends around the upper course of the Manzanares River, along 42 583 ha. Its main municipalities of reference are Manzanares el Real and Hoyo de Manzanares. Unesco declared it a Biosphere Reserve in 1992.It is located on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Guadarrama, with the exception of Monte de El Pardo and its eastern appendix, the Soto de Viñuelas, which are located in the detritic plain, characteristic of the Southern Subplateau. It has numerous ecosystems, among which pine forests, holm oak groves, juniper groves, rockrose groves, melojares and wetlands stand out.

Soto del Real, whose former name was Chozas de la Sierra, is a town and municipality in the northern area of the autonomous Community of Madrid which had 9,188 inhabitants in 2022.43 kilometers away from Madrid, the capital city, it is located between the towns of Manzanares el Real and Miraflores de la Sierra, and close to the Santillana reservoir.

Hoyo de Manzanares is a municipality of the Community of Madrid, Spain, and is located on the northwestern side of the Community of Madrid and to the south of the Sierra de Guadarrama. It has a stable population of roughly 7,457 residents (INE 2008), a statistic that has been increasing consistently from the economic crisis of 2008/9 onwards. The population also greatly increases during the summer due to an influx of various families who own summer houses in the area. This district of Madrid is found inside the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park created by the Community of Madrid in 1985. This regional park is the oldest and most protected regional park in the Community of Madrid. As a result, Hoyo de Manzanares is surrounded by mountains and fields that give the town a beautiful location. The only way to arrive in Hoyo de Manzanares from the city of Madrid is via the M-618 highway, which bisects the regional park, passing the nearby towns of Torrelodones, Colmenar Viejo, and finally Hoyo de Manzanares.

The Guadarrama Tunnel is a railway tunnel across the Sierra de Guadarrama, forming a key portion of the Madrid–Asturias high-speed rail line in Spain. It is the largest tunnel in Spain, as well as being the fifth largest in the world at the time of its completion.The tunnel comprises two individual parallel tubes, with regular interconnecting galleries throughout their length. The western tube is 28,407 m long and the eastern tube 28,418 m long, and it is the longest tunnel in Spain (when not counting the Line 12 tunnel in the Madrid Metro). The tunnel was opened for traffic in December 2007, and has been primarily used by the AVE high speed passenger trains.

La Maliciosa is one of the most important and highest mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama, a mountainous formation belonging to the Sistema Central. It has an altitude of 2227m above sea level and is located in the northwest of the Community of Madrid, in Spain, rising between La Pedriza, which lies to the east, and La Barranca valley, which is on its western slope. It has a prominence of 153m, its profile is unmistakable and it stands out notably in the Meseta Central (Inner Plateau). This makes it one of the most striking and significant mountains of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Its southern face is the steepest and there are several ravines, alpine meadows and rocky areas. The slopes of La Maliciosa are dominated by low mountain scrub, although there are areas covered with Scotch pine trees. A large part of this mountain is within the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park and within the Guadarrama National Park.
