Stone Mountain is a city in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,802 according to the 2010 US Census. Stone Mountain is in the eastern part of DeKalb County and is a suburb of Atlanta that encompasses nearly 1.7 square miles. It lies near and touches the western base of the geological formation Stone Mountain. Locals often call the city "Stone Mountain Village" to distinguish it from the larger unincorporated area traditionally considered Stone Mountain and Stone Mountain Park.

Wade-Walker Park is a 177-acre park with sports fields, hiking and biking trails, pavilions, and a fishing pier near Stone Mountain, Georgia, United States. In 2005, the park underwent a $2.5 million upgrade. The park is located at 5585 Rockbridge Road, at the intersection of Rockbridge with Stone Mountain Lithonia Road.

Stone Mountain is a quartz monzonite dome monadnock and the site of Stone Mountain Park, 16 miles (26 km) east of Atlanta, Georgia. Outside the park is the small city of Stone Mountain, Georgia. The park is the most visited tourist site in the state of Georgia. The park is owned by the state of Georgia and is currently managed by Herschend Family Entertainment. At its summit, the elevation is 1,686 feet (514 m) above sea level and 825 feet (251 m) above the surrounding area. Stone Mountain is well known for not only its geology, but also the enormous rock relief on its north face, the largest bas-relief artwork in the world. The carving, completed in 1972, depicts three Confederate leaders, Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson.Stone Mountain, once owned by the Venable Brothers, was seen from the outset "as a memorial to the Confederacy." Stone Mountain Park officially opened on April 14, 1965 – 100 years to the day after Lincoln's assassination, although the park had already been in use for a few years. The mountain, which ranges in composition from quartz monzonite to granite and granodiorite, is more than 5 miles (8 km) in circumference at its base. The summit of the mountain can be reached by a walk-up trail on the west side of the mountain or by the Skyride aerial tram.

WGTV (channel 8) is a PBS member television station licensed to Athens, Georgia, United States, a legacy of the station's early years as a service of the University of Georgia (UGA). Owned by the Georgia Public Telecommunications Commission (technically under the Georgia Board of Regents, along with the University System of Georgia), it is the flagship station of the statewide Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) television network, serving the Atlanta metropolitan area from a transmitter atop Stone Mountain just east of Atlanta. WGTV has been part of GPB proper since January 1, 1982, after the state government ordered the consolidation of the two broadcasting entities. It was a separate entity owned by UGA for its first 22 years, though it supplied much of the non-instructional programming seen on the state's educational network.

The Stone Mountain Scenic Railroad is a standard gauge railroad that circles the perimeter of Stone Mountain Park in a loop, and provides views of the mountain en route.

The Yellow Daisy Festival is an arts and crafts festival, held in Stone Mountain, Georgia.Sunshine Artist Magazine has voted the festival one of the top five arts and crafts shows in the nation.

Thornton House is a historic house in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Thomas Redman Thornton (1769–1826) constructed the house around 1790 at Union Point, Georgia. The house was moved in the late 1960s by the Atlanta Art Association to a location behind the High Museum of Art in Midtown Atlanta. Then the house was moved again in 1968 for final reconstruction in Stone Mountain Park.

Stone Mountain High School is a college preparatory and public high school located in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States, near Stone Mountain and in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

DeKalb Academy of Technology and Environment (DATE) is a charter school located at 1492 Kelton Drive in Stone Mountain, Georgia, United States. The school has about 800 students in kindergarten through eighth grades (as of the 2017-2018 school year).In October 2008, Kathy Cox recognized the school as a top 10 school in Georgia for math and science. The school has the vision to be recognized as one of the top 10 charter schools in the nation. DATE was named by the Know Magazine Education Guide as being Metro Atlanta's Best Public School for 8th Grade in DeKalb County. DATE's 8th grade class ranked #1 in Reading and #9 in math on the GCRCT. DeKalb Academy of Technology and Environment Elementary and Middle Charter Schools was featured in the book The Places and Faces of DeKalb County Georgia, highlighting its academic success, environmental and technology focus, and parental participation. DATE was selected to have a playground built by KABOOM and sponsored by Dr. Pepper Snapple Group. DATE students outperformed elementary and middle school students collectively in the DeKalb County School District and State Technology Fair. The school is accredited by AdvancED.

Pine Lake is the smallest city in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 752 at the 2020 census.

The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts, based in Stone Mountain, Georgia, was a performing arts center supported through the Shakur Family Foundation. The Shakur Center's mission was to provide opportunities for young people through the arts, and offered programs such as drama, dance, and creative writing classes. The organization also ran a Performing Arts Day Camp for youth ages twelve to eighteen. The center, located off Memorial Drive, was named in honor of the late American hip hop artist Tupac Amaru Shakur, and was founded by his mother Afeni Shakur.

The DeKalb County School District (DCSD) is a school district headquartered at 1701 Mountain Industrial Boulevard in unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, United States, near Stone Mountain and in the Atlanta metropolitan area. DCSD operates public schools in areas of DeKalb County that are not within the city limits of Atlanta and Decatur. It will serve a portion of Atlanta annexed by that city in 2018 until 2024, when that portion will be re-assigned to Atlanta Public Schools (APS). The school district is overseen by the seven-member DeKalb County Board of Education. The interim superintendent/CEO is, as of November 11, 2019, Mrs. Ramona Tyson. The system educates more than 102,000 students at 138 schools with more than 14,000 full-time employees and 6,000 teachers. In 2018, the school system graduated over 5,800 students from high school. The district includes three of the top-ranked schools in the nation in 2018 according to U.S. News and World Report. The DeKalb School of the Arts earned a gold designation after being ranked No. 75 overall, and No. 2 in Georgia. Chamblee Charter High School also earned a gold designation, ranking No. 457 nationwide and No. 14 in Georgia. The Arabia Mountain High School Academy of Engineering-Medicine performed well enough to earn a silver designation, ranking No. 58 in Georgia. DeKalb Early College Academy earned a bronze designation, ranking No. 68 in Georgia. DCSD is also home to Henderson Mill Elementary School, the first STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) certified school in Georgia.
