Somers Historic District

Somers is a census-designated place (CDP) comprising the primary village in the town of Somers, Tolland County, Connecticut. As of the 2020 United States census, the Somers CDP had a population of 1,990, out of 10,255 in the town of Somers.

The Somers Solar Center is a five megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power plant in Somers, Connecticut. The project is owned by Dominion Energy, and Prime Solutions was the contractor and technology provider. The project was constructed on 50 acres (20 ha) of former pasture land. The project provides enough energy to power 5,000 homes annually.

Somers is a town in Tolland County, Connecticut. The town is part of the Capitol Planning Region. The population was 10,255 at the 2020 census. The town center is listed by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place (CDP). In 2007, Money Magazine listed Somers 53rd on its "100 Best Places to Live", based on "economic opportunity, good schools, safe streets, things to do and a real sense of community." Bordering Massachusetts, Somers is considered part of the city of Springfield, Massachusetts NECTA. Somers is 13 miles (21 km) southeast of Springfield and considered more oriented toward it than the city of Hartford, which lies 22 miles (35 km) to the southwest.

Somers High School is a public high school in the town of Somers, Connecticut, United States. It offers advanced placement courses in collaboration with the University of Connecticut. It participates in the Somers-based Four Town Fair with student-run booths and a senior parade float. Available sports include soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, track and field, baseball, softball, basketball, golf, and wrestling.

The Somersville Historic District encompasses the historic components of the mill village of Somersville in western Somers, Connecticut, United States. The district is centered on a mill complex on the Scantic River, which divides the district. The most significant years of development were between about 1835 and 1935, although the area has a history (and surviving structures) dating to the 1760s. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The Mill itself has since burned down and as of October 2018 is currently open field, although the canal structure remains in place.

The Osborn Correctional Institution (OCI), formerly known as the Connecticut Correctional Institution – Somers, is a medium-security state prison that includes a high-security mental health unit for men of the Connecticut Department of Correction located in Somers, Connecticut. It has capacity of 1900 inmates, making it amongst the largest prisons in the state and one of the oldest operational facilities in Connecticut. It housed the state's execution chamber until 2015, when capital punishment was declared unconstitutional. It also housed male death row inmates until 1995 when they were transferred to the nearby Northern Correctional Institution.

Ellington Airport (FAA LID: 7B9) is a privately owned, public use airport located two nautical miles (4 km) north of the central business district of Ellington, a town in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States.The airport, which is open to the public, is one of two Connecticut airports that is state certified as a parachute jump zone. Connecticut Parachutists Inc. has its home base at the airport.

Shenipsit State Forest is a state forest located in northeastern Connecticut with 11 parcels scattered between the towns of Somers, Ellington, and Stafford. The forest's headquarters is home to the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum, which houses memorabilia from CCC camps throughout the eastern United States. The forest is managed for forestry products and offers various recreational pursuits.

Ellington is a town in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. Ellington was incorporated in May 1786, from East Windsor. The town is part of the Capitol Planning Region. As of the 2020 census, the town population was 16,426.

The Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution is a medium-security state prison for men in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut, owned and operated by the Connecticut Department of Correction. It houses a maximum of 1165 inmates.The facility is the result of a 1997 merger of two previous institutions: the Willard Correctional Institution opened 1990, and the Cybulski Correctional Institution opened 1993. Willard-Cybulski is also one of a cluster of five state prisons in the immediate area, northeast of Enfield and under a mile from the Massachusetts state line. The others are: Robinson Correctional Institution, Enfield Correctional Institution (inmate population 717), Northern Correctional Institution, and Osborn Correctional Institution. Governor Ned Lamont announced the closure of the Willard Correctional Institution citing an inmate decline of 44% of prisoners between 2012 and 2022.

The Enfield Shakers Historic District encompasses some of the surviving remnants of a former Shaker community in Enfield, Connecticut. Founded in the 1780s, the Enfield Shaker community remained active until 1917. The surviving buildings of their once large community complexes are located in and around Taylor Road in northeastern Enfield, and were listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The listing included 15 contributing buildings and one contributing site.

The Swetland-Pease House is a historic house at 191 Pease Road in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts. Probably built about 1793, it is one of a small number of surviving 18th-century houses in the town, and is one of its best-preserved. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
