Somersville Historic District

Somers High School is a public high school in the town of Somers, Connecticut, United States. It offers advanced placement courses in collaboration with the University of Connecticut. It participates in the Somers-based Four Town Fair with student-run booths and a senior parade float. Available sports include soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, track and field, baseball, softball, basketball, golf, and wrestling.

Scantic River State Park is a public recreation area consisting of several separated parcels totaling 784 acres (317 ha) along the Scantic River in the towns of Enfield, East Windsor, and Somers, Connecticut. The state park is suitable for hiking, fishing, and hunting and is managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.

The Osborn Correctional Institution (OCI), formerly known as the Connecticut Correctional Institution – Somers, is a medium-security state prison that includes a high-security mental health unit for men of the Connecticut Department of Correction located in Somers, Connecticut. It has capacity of 1900 inmates, making it amongst the largest prisons in the state and one of the oldest operational facilities in Connecticut. It housed the state's execution chamber until 2015, when capital punishment was declared unconstitutional. It also housed male death row inmates until 1995 when they were transferred to the nearby Northern Correctional Institution.

The Enfield Shakers Historic District encompasses some of the surviving remnants of a former Shaker community in Enfield, Connecticut. Founded in the 1780s, the Enfield Shaker community remained active until 1917. The surviving buildings of their once large community complexes are located in and around Taylor Road in northeastern Enfield, and were listed as a historic district on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. The listing included 15 contributing buildings and one contributing site.

The town center is listed by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place (CDP). In 2007, Money Magazine listed Somers 53rd on its "100 Best Places to Live", based on "economic opportunity, good schools, safe streets, things to do and a real sense of community." Bordering Massachusetts, Somers is considered part of the city of Springfield, Massachusetts NECTA. Somers is 13 miles (21 km) southeast of Springfield and considered more oriented toward it than the city of Hartford, which lies 22 miles (35 km) to the southwest.

The Somers Solar Center is a five megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic power plant in Somers, Connecticut. The project is owned by Dominion Energy, and Prime Solutions was the contractor and technology provider. The project was constructed on 50 acres (20 ha) of former pasture land. The project provides enough energy to power 5,000 homes annually.

The Somers Historic District encompasses the historic civic and social center of the town of Somers, Connecticut. It stretches along Main Street, with extensions along Springfield Road and Battle Street, and includes a significant number of vernacular Federal and Greek Revival houses. It includes the town's early churches, as well as important civic buildings, including the town hall and library. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution is a medium-security state prison for men in Enfield, Hartford County, Connecticut, owned and operated by the Connecticut Department of Correction. It houses a maximum of 1165 inmates.The facility is the result of a 1997 merger of two previous institutions: the Willard Correctional Institution opened 1990, and the Cybulski Correctional Institution opened 1993. Willard-Cybulski is also one of a cluster of five state prisons in the immediate area, northeast of Enfield and under a mile from the Massachusetts state line. The others are: Robinson Correctional Institution, Enfield Correctional Institution (inmate population 717), Northern Correctional Institution, and Osborn Correctional Institution. Governor Ned Lamont announced the closure of the Willard Correctional Institution citing an inmate decline of 44% of prisoners between 2012 and 2022.

The Carl Robinson Correctional Institution is a Connecticut Department of Correction state prison for men located in Enfield, Connecticut. The facility was opened in 1985 for medium-security inmates with a capacity of 880.Robinson is one of a cluster of five state prisons in the immediate area, northeast of Enfield and under a mile from the Massachusetts state line. The others are Enfield Correctional Institution (inmate population 717), Willard-Cybulski Correctional Institution, Northern Correctional Institution, and Osborn Correctional Institution. It was announced in 2017 that the Enfield Correctional Institute would close in early 2018 due to reduced inmate population statewide; most staff members in the staff of 190 were reassigned.Robinson was the scene of two escapes in 1990, an extensive prison riot in June 1990, when 300 to 400 inmates set fire to the mess hall and gymnasium, and a worse riot on July 12, 1994. Members of the "20 Love" gangs from Hartford and New Haven clashed with Bridgeport gangs over the use of washing machines. The fight escalated and resulted in two inmate deaths, 35 detainees injured, two correctional officers injured, and all six of Robinson's dorm buildings under control of inmates for at least an hour. Overcrowding 1075 prisoners into a facility built for 880 was identified as a contributing factor.

The William H. Thompson Farmstead is a historic farm property at 215 and 219 Melrose Road in East Windsor, Connecticut. It includes a 19th-century farmhouse built by a member of one of the community's oldest families, and exhibits changing trends in agriculture uses over a 150-year period. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003.
