Michaela McAreavey, née Harte (Irish: Micheáilín Mhic Giolla Riabhaigh née Ní hÁirt, 31 December 1983 – 10 January 2011) was found strangled in the bath of a hotel room in Mauritius, where she had travelled for her honeymoon. The daughter of Tyrone's multiple All-Ireland Senior Football Championship-winning Gaelic football manager Mickey Harte, her death and subsequent events prompted continuing widespread international media coverage. It was the first murder of a tourist in Mauritius, and the Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam expressed his sympathy to the Harte and McAreavey families. The two hotel workers who were accused of her murder were tried and declared not-guilty by the Supreme Court of Mauritius: they were acquitted on 12 July 2012.

Grand Gaube is a town located in the Rivière du Rempart District, in northern Mauritius. It lies on the coast of the Indian Ocean. In the 1960s and 70s its population consisted exclusively of Mauritian Creoles and Indo-Mauritians, with the exception of a handful of Franco-Mauritians and three Chinese families. The town has two harbors, one is by the St Michel R C A School and the other is in Melville, another ward of the town.

Lallmatie is a village in Mauritius—located on the west side of Flacq District—it occupied a latitude around -20.1897222 and a longitude around 57.6611111. It has a density of 793.5/km2 (2,055/sq mi) and a total population of around 11,910 inhabitants. Lallmatie is one of the most developed villages in Mauritius and has a wide natural resources which include vast sugarcane fields, dense forests and rivers. The village is sub divided into three plots—which include the Metropolitan area known as Royal Road Lallmatie—the residential area and—the flora and fauna area known as Giroday Road Lallmatie which consists of forest, sugar cane field and waterfall. Christianity, Catholic, Islam are practiced by Lallmatian but the most dominating religion is Hinduism, around 83% of Lallmatian are Hindu Mauritian. The official language are English and French which is used for administration while Mauritian Creole is highly used for communication, but some inhabitants also speak their vernacular languages which include French, Mauritian Creole, English and Bhojpuri. Lallmatie has one secondary institution named Manilal Doctor State Secondary School which is a girl state college and two primary institutions called Jawaharlall Nehru Government School and Sookdeo Bissoondoyal Government School. The primary source of transportation of the village are bus and taxi.

Belle Vue Harel is a village in Mauritius that is located in the Pamplemousses District on the northern part of the island. It is located next to Plaine des Papayes village. It is part of the larger Plaine des Papayes area which as of 2011 had 7,607 inhabitants.The village is the site of the Stade Anjalay, which is a prominent football venue for the nation, with the national football team and two top division teams (Pamplemousses SC, AS Rivière du Rempart) being resident. Athletics is also accommodated at the stadium and the 1992 African Championships in Athletics was held in the village.

Mapou is a village in northern Mauritius, located in Rivière du Rempart District. The village is administered by the Mapou Village Council under the aegis of the Rivière du Rempart District Council. According to the census made by Statistics Mauritius in 2011, the population was 1,275.

The Anjalay Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Belle Vue Harel, Pamplemousses District, Mauritius. At present, it is used mostly for football matches. The parking area of the stadium is used for car racing and motorcycle racing. The stadium holds 16,000 and was renovated in 2003 for a cost of $15 million.
