New Jersey City University

This is a list of public art in Jersey City, New Jersey, in the United States. This list applies only to works of public art on permanent display in an outdoor public space and does not include artworks in museums. Public art may include sculptures, statues, monuments, memorials, murals, and mosaics.

University Academy Charter High School (often abbreviated to UACHS) is a four-year comprehensive public charter high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Jersey City, in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The school opened in the 2002–03 school year and operates under the terms of a charter granted by the New Jersey Department of Education in 2001. Through its affiliation with New Jersey City University, students who graduate from the school with a grade point average of 3.8 or higher are eligible to receive a four-year scholarship to NJCU.As of the 2020–21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 439 students and 40.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.0:1. There were 234 students (53.3% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 43 (9.8% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The Innovation High School is a four-year public high school in Jersey City in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States, operated as part of the Jersey City Public Schools. It is one of a number of high school programs serving students in ninth through twelfth grades offered by the school district. As of the 2020–21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 312 students and 26.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.0:1. There were 177 students (56.7% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 12 (3.8% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

The statue of Mary McLeod Bethune in Jersey City, New Jersey is located in the Greenville section. It honors the educator and civil rights leader Mary McLeod Bethune (1875 – 1955).It was dedicated on November 22, 2021 and marked the completion the namesake Bethune Park, which opened in August 2021, and is across the from the Bethune Center on Martin Luther King Drive. The bronze 9 feet (2.7 m) tall statue on a 2.5 feet (0.76 m) marble pedestal is inspired by Bethune in her late 20s to early 30s.The statue was designed by Alvin Petit who said of the work: “As a broader significance, this also plays a role in linking our City with a national movement to erect monuments that symbolize diversity and inclusiveness. This will be the first statue in Jersey City to honor the legacy of an African American woman.”The inscription reads: DR. MARY McCLEOD BETHUNE July 10, 1875 – May 18, 1955 EDUCATOR * STATEWOMEN * ACTIVIST * ENTREPRENEUR "If we have the courage and tenacity of our forebears who stood firmly like a rock against the lash of slavery, we shall find a way to do for our day what they did for theirs."

The Jersey City Public Schools is a comprehensive community public school district located in Jersey City, in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The district is one of 31 former Abbott districts statewide that were established pursuant to the decision by the New Jersey Supreme Court in Abbott v. Burke which are now referred to as "SDA Districts" based on the requirement for the state to cover all costs for school building and renovation projects in these districts under the supervision of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority. As of the 2019–20 school year, the district, comprised of 39 schools, had an enrollment of 29,113 students and 2,173.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.4:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "B", the second lowest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.The district was one of three districts in New Jersey (along with Newark Public Schools and Paterson Public Schools) under "state intervention", which authorizes the state Commissioner of Education to intervene in curriculum functions. In 2017, Jersey City became the first school district in New Jersey to regain full local control after having been under "state intervention".

Academy of the Arts at Henry Snyder High School is a four-year performing arts public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades, located in the Greenville section of Jersey City, New Jersey, United States, operating as part of the Jersey City Public Schools. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1940.As of the 2020–21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 776 students and 61.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.7:1. There were 422 students (54.4% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 15 (1.9% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

West Side Avenue is a station on the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) in the West Side neighborhood in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. Located on the east side of West Side Avenue, the station is the terminal of the West Side Avenue branch of the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail, with service to Tonnelle Avenue station in North Bergen. The station consists of a single island platform and a pair of tracks that end at the station. The station contains a pedestrian bridge over West Side Avenue to a small parking lot and bus stop on the west side of the street. The station is accessible for handicapped people per the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, with an elevator in the pedestrian overpass and train-level platforms. West Side Avenue station opened on April 17, 2000 as part of the original operating segment of the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail.

On December 10, 2019, a shooting took place at a kosher grocery store in the Greenville section of Jersey City, New Jersey. Five people were killed at the store, including the two assailants, David N. Anderson and Francine Graham. Additionally, the assailants wounded one customer and two police officers. A Jersey City Police Department detective was also shot and killed by the assailants at a nearby cemetery just before the grocery store attack. Anderson, who had connections to extremist groups, had a history of posting antisemitic and anti-law enforcement messages on social media; New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal stated that evidence indicated that the attacks were acts of hate and domestic terrorism which were fueled by antisemitism and anti-police sentiment. Authorities believe that a much larger attack had been planned, but it was thwarted by the police detective's intervention at the cemetery. The shooting was part of a wave of violent attacks against Jews in the United States.

Sacred Heart Church is a historic church and former Roman Catholic parish church on MLK Drive at Bayview Avenue in the Greenville section of Jersey City, New Jersey, United States. It is within the Archdiocese of Newark.

St Mark Coptic Orthodox Church (Coptic: Ϯⲉⲕ'ⲕⲗⲏⲥⲓⲁ ⳿ⲛⲣⲉⲙ⳿ⲛⲭⲏⲙⲓ ⳿ⲛⲟⲣⲑⲟⲇⲟⲝⲟⲥ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫⲏⲉⲑⲟⲩⲁⲃ Ⲙⲁⲣⲕⲟⲥ // transliteration: ti.eklyseya en.remenkimi en.orthodoxos ente fi.ethowab Markos) is notably the first Coptic Orthodox parish and church building in North America, if not the Western Hemisphere, located in Jersey City, New Jersey. This is in comparison to St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church in (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) which is considered the first parish in North America. It is one of over 200 Coptic Orthodox Churches in the United States. The Church belongs to Archdiocese of North America.

The Afro-American Historical and Cultural Society Museum is located is on the upper floor of the Greenville Branch of the Jersey City, New Jersey Public Library, its collection is dedicated to the African American experience. The museum has galleries for lectures, special exhibits, and a permanent collection of material culture of New Jersey's African Americans as well as African artifacts. The collection includes books, newspapers, documents, photographs and memorabilia regarding African American history and information about the slave trade in New Jersey, the underground railroad, a replica of an urban 1930s kitchen, the Pullman Porters (a black labor union), the Civil Rights Movement, the NAACP in New Jersey, New Jersey"s historic African American churches, and genealogical records. The heritage of Jersey City's African American community has been collected and preserved in a special collection, including the city's earliest black residents (in the 17th century Bergen, New Netherland settlement), its role in the Underground Railroad, and the civil rights movement, including Martin Luther King Jr.'s appearances.

Pine Street School is a for-profit co-ed international school with an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme for ages 2 through 5th grade. The school opened in September 2014 in New York City in the Financial District neighborhood. Pine Street School opened with a dual language immersion program in Spanish and has since added a Mandarin dual language immersion option. Pine Street School is organized in four divisions: the nursery program (2-year-olds), Preschool (ages 3 and 4), and Elementary School (Kindergarten through 5th grade).
