Katrinedal (or Djupedalen) is a locality situated in Vänersborg Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 270 inhabitants in 2010.

Brätte, originally known as Vassända, was a settlement on Vänern's southernmost bay, now Lake Vassbotten; it was a predecessor of today's Vänersborg, Sweden.

Älvsborg County (Swedish: Älvsborgs län) was a county of Sweden until 1997, when it was merged with the counties of Gothenburg & Bohus and Skaraborg to form Västra Götaland County. The county corresponded to the traditional province of Dalsland and the central part of the province of Västergötland, and its coat of arms was created by quartering the respective arms of those provinces. Älvsborg County initially encompassed the entire western half of Västergötland, and was named after Älvsborg Castle, which is where the county administration was initially based. Älvsborg was demolished in the 1660s and the county seat moved to nearby Gothenburg, but the county continued to bear the name Älvsborg. Under the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde, the Norwegian province of Bohuslen (Swedish: Bohuslän) was transferred to Sweden, and in 1680 it was decided to form a new county comprising Bohuslän and the western part of Västergötland, creating the new Gothenburg and Bohus County.The seat of Älvsborg County (which had become even more of a misnomer, as the site of the former Älvsborg fortress now lay within the new Gothenburg and Bohus County) therefore had to be moved again, this time to Vänersborg.

Vänersborg Municipality (Vänersborgs kommun) is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Vänersborg. The present municipality was created during the local government reform in the early 1970s. In 1971 the City of Vänersborg became a municipality of unitary type and three years later it was amalgamated with three surrounding municipalities. The number of original local government entities (as of 1863) is eight.

The NU Hospital Group consists mainly of two hospitals in Sweden; Norra Älvsborgs Länssjukhus in Trollhättan and Uddevalla Sjukhus in Uddevalla. NU Hospital Group also includes three smaller local hospitals in Lysekil, Strömstad and Dalsland. It serves 270,000 residents of Dalsland, northern Bohuslän and the towns of Trollhättan, Uddevalla and Vänersborg. In 2009, NU Hospital Group treated 126,000 outpatients over the course of 479,000 hospital visits, and 27,000 inpatients over the course of 39,000 visits. The NU Hospital Group is part of the Västra Götaland Regional Council.

Onsjö is a suburban village in Vänersborg in the Vänersborg Municipality in Västra Götaland County, Sweden. It is located south of Karl's grave. There is a church, Onsjökyrkan and Onsjö golf course.

Vänersborg () is a locality and the seat of Vänersborg Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden with 23,882 inhabitants (out of a municipal total of 39,904) Until 1997 it was the capital of Älvsborg County, which was dissolved in 1998. Since 1999 Vänersborg has been the seat of the regional parliament of Västra Götaland County. The city is located on the southern shores of lake Vänern, close to where the river Göta älv leaves the lake.

The Vänersborg Church (Swedish: Vänersborgs kyrka) is a church building in the central parts of Vänersborg, Sweden. Belonging to the Vänersborg and Väne-Ryr Parish of the Church of Sweden, it was built between 1783 and 1784. It was inaugurated on 5 August 1784.

Arena Vänersborg is an indoor arena in Vänersborg, Sweden. It is used for bandy, concerts and other events. The arena serves as home field for IFK Vänersborg. It also hosted the 2013 Bandy World Championship, when for the second time Division A and Division B were separate events, and the 2019 Bandy World Championship.

Torpaskolan was a school located in Vänersborg, Sweden. It was finished in 1965, when it was built to educate the increasing youth population in Vänersborg. The school consisted of one main building housing the standard classrooms, physics, biology and chemistry classrooms, as well as residence rooms. Scattered "in front" of the main building, is four smaller buildings, containing engineering, crafts, music, home economics and art education classrooms. In the largest of the smaller buildings, there a canteen as well as an auditorium. The physical education takes place in the so-called "Arena Fritid", about a hundred metric meters from the main building. Arena Fritid is also where the floor ball team IBK Red Stars practice.

Frida High School (Swedish: Fridagymnasiet) is a private secondary school located in Vänersborg, Sweden. It was started in 2006 and is part of the greater concern Frida Utbildning AB, which also operates three elementary schools in Trestad. Frida High has approximately 190 students, which makes it a fairly small school by both European and Swedish means. The school is located in facilities historically accommodated by the army, but along with many others nationally, the regiment was closed during the early 20th century.The school offers two programs of education: the Social Scientific, and the Natural Scientific. Both programs are theoretical and offer the students a vast selection of possible colleges and universities for future studies.

Trollhättan Assembly is an automobile factory in Trollhättan, Sweden. The factory opened in 1947 under the ownership of Saab AB, then passing to Saab Automobile. From 1989 to 2010, the factory was partially (1989–1999), then completely (2000–2010) owned by General Motors. In 2010, Saab was sold to Spyker Cars. The plant ended production in 2011 and restarted in 2013, after the NEVS purchase of Saab Automobile. The Trollhättan complex, including the assembly, is now the sole site of all Saab engineering and manufacturing activities. After NEVS announced its closure in March 2023, Polestar have shown interest in buying the factory.It was founded on the site of Trollhättan airfield, by the aircraft manufacturer Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (Saab AB), an aircraft manufacturer since 1937 and based in Linköping, Sweden. The first automobile off the line was the Saab 92, a front-wheel drive, two-stroke, transverse-engined passenger vehicle.
