Dranse (Haute-Savoie)

The Delta de la Dranse National Nature Reserve is a nature reserve located in the delta of the Dranse river. The reserve is located to the east of the commune of Thonon-les-Bains in southeastern France. At 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) long by 500 metres (1,600 ft) wide, it covers a small area of 53 hectares (130 acres) at an elevation ranging from 372 to 380 metres (1,220 to 1,247 ft). Offering a rich botanic biodiversity, the site was declared a national nature reserve in January 1980 and declared a special "zone of protection" since September 1986. The beach of the last river delta along Lake Geneva is constituted of alluvium, sand, stones, and pebbles. The sandy beaches and small islands are constantly being formed by the path of the rising torrential river, which has resulted in the expansion of a rich diversity of flora and wildlife. The reserve shelters: Close to 750 plant species including orchids; More than 200 species of birds, notably the red-crested pochard, the little ringed plover – the reserve is the only nesting site for the common tern in the larger Rhone basin, additionally it is the southernmost point where the common gull nests; Numerous reptiles and amphibian species are equally represented; European beavers are well established along the banks.

The Arboretum de Ripaille (53 hectares) is an arboretum and forest located on the grounds of the Château de Ripaille, Thonon-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie, Rhône-Alpes, France. It is open daily except Monday, but closed in December. The arboretum is set beside the Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), within the medieval hunting grounds of the Counts and Dukes of Savoy which are now surrounded by high walls and cut through with a web of wide allées. Its chateau was constructed in 1434 with partial restoration in 1892. From 1930 to 1934 Andrew Engel planted 58 species of trees, from around the world, across 19 hectares of these grounds. Heavy storms in 1999 severely damaged the arboretum, with restoration beginning in 2002. Since 1997 the Mémorial National des Justes de France, honoring citizens who risked their lives saving Jews during World War II, has been set within the center of the arboretum.

Sixty per cent (345.31 km2 or 133.32 sq mi) of the lake belongs to Switzerland (the cantons of Vaud, Geneva and Valais) and forty per cent (234.71 km2 or 90.62 sq mi) to France (the department of Haute-Savoie).

Champanges (French pronunciation: [ʃɑ̃pɑ̃ʒ]; Arpitan: Champenjo) is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. An Alpine community, with a tourist and camping industry, it is close to Lake Leman and the French-Swiss border.

The Funiculaire de Thonon-les-Bains, or Thonon-les-Bains Funicular, is a funicular railway in the spa town of Thonon-les-Bains, in the French département of Haute-Savoie. The line links the Belvedere, in the city centre, to the port of Rives, on the shores of Lake Geneva. The funicular is managed by the Syndicat intercommunal des bus de l'agglomération thononaise (SIBAT), which is also responsible for the local bus service. It was opened in 1888. It has been renovated twice, first in 1951. After another renovation finished in 1989 a fully automated system designed by Poma was put into operation. It was the 1st of its kind in France. Thonon-les-Bains station (French: Gare de Thonon-les-Bains) is a railway station located in Thonon-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie, south-eastern France. The station was opened in 1880 and is located on the Longeray-Léaz-Le Bouveret railway. The train services are operated by SNCF.

Evian Resort Golf Club is a golf course in southeastern France, located in Évian-les-Bains, Haute-Savoie. Overlooking Lake Geneva, it hosts The Evian Championship, formerly "Evian Masters," annually in July. From 2013 to 2018, The Evian Championship was the LPGA Tour's fifth and final major championship. It is currently the fourth major of the year. The standard 18-hole course is par 71 at 6,333 yards (5,791 m). The entire course, with a particular focus on the tees, fairways, greens, and bunkers, underwent a $8 million renovation in 2012–13, designed by architect Steve Smyers and European Golf Design. The course has received criticism for fundamental design flaws, presenting players with "too many bad breaks with good shots" according to Lexi Thompson, and causing Stacy Lewis to boycott the course for two years. The average elevation of the course is approximately 480 metres (1,575 ft) above sea level.

The canton of Thonon-les-Bains is an administrative division of the Haute-Savoie department, southeastern France. It was created at the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. Its seat is in Thonon-les-Bains. It consists of the following communes:

Chablais (French pronunciation: [ʃablɛ], Italian: Chiablese) was a province of the Duchy of Savoy. Its capital was Thonon-les-Bains. Chablais was elevated to a duchy in 1311 by Henry VII, Holy Roman Emperor. This region is currently divided into three territories, the Chablais savoyard, the Chablais valaisan, and the Chablais vaudois, and is now split across two countries: France (department of Haute-Savoie) and Switzerland (cantons of Valais and Vaud). The Chablais Alps is a mountain range situated between the two countries, but the Chablais region itself also includes a large portion of the Vaud Alps and the Rhône Valley from Saint-Maurice, Switzerland, to Lake Geneva. The Swiss section of Chablais is served by the Transports Publics du Chablais (TPC) with buses and narrow gauge railways operating out of Aigle and Bex to service the communities in the region. Chablais is also a wine appellation (AOC) associated with the Chablais vaudois. The sub-appellations, Villeneuve, Yvorne, Aigle, Ollon-Vaud and Bex, are all situated in the district of Aigle. The district is mostly known for the white wines it produces using the Chasselas grape, referred to locally as Fendant.
