Porte Maillot

Porte Maillot (French pronunciation: ​[pɔʁt majo]) is a station on Paris Métro Line 1 and as Neuilly – Porte Maillot on the RER C. The station replaces another station of the same name, the original terminus of Line 1, which was demolished and moved in 1936. The name derives from the Porte Maillot, a former gate to the Bois de Boulogne, whose name derives perhaps from maille, or croquet. The present day Porte Maillot is in the centre of a roundabout close to the modern Palais des congrès de Paris which the station serves. The centre of the roundabout is a small park, providing a midpoint on the long view between the arches of La Defense and the Arc de Triomphe.

The Palais des congrès de Paris is a concert venue, convention centre and shopping mall at the Porte Maillot in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, France. The venue was built by French architect Guillaume Gillet, and was inaugurated in 1974. Nearby the venue are Bois de Boulogne and the affluent neighbourhood of Neuilly-sur-Seine. The closest métro and RER stations are Porte Maillot and Neuilly – Porte Maillot, accessible via the lower levels of the building.

Luna Park was an amusement park near Porte Maillot in Paris, France from 1907 (or 1909) to 1931. Features of the park included a shoot-the-chutes ride, a scenic railway, "Le Chatouilleur" ("Diabolic wheels", a roller coaster-type ride in which people ride in a car that rocks as it is pulled up a mountain), a river ride through the mountain that was the base of the scenic railway, and a dance hall. An additional attraction was named the Brooklyn Bridge. Its operating hours were from 1:00 p.m. to midnight.In 1907, Théodore Vienne, a wealthy industrialist and sports entrepreneur from Roubaix, founded the Wonderland Français with Robert Coquelle and Victor Breyer, a sports stadium at Luna Park. The New York Times reported in 1913: Jack Johnson, heavyweight champion, was matched to-day to fight Frank Moran in this city during the second week of January, 1914, for the heavyweight championship of the world. Two clubs, the Nouveau Cirque and the Wonderland Francais, are now bidding for the match, and the decision will be made known Saturday. The Nouveau Cirque, which holds its bouts at the Velodrome d'Hiver in Passy, will seat 30,000 people, and it has offered Johnson 50 percent of the gross receipts, with 25 percent for Moran. The Wonderland Club, which is under the control of Theodore Vienne, the leading fight promoter of France, will submit its bid tomorrow. It is said that both parties favor Vienne's club, as the fight would be held in Luna Park, Paris, thereby drawing a great society crowd. Waning popularity, in part due to the worsening global economic conditions, prompted the park ownership to purchase 25 embalmed whales and 100 live penguins for exhibit in 1931. The additional displays did not help: Luna Park closed in the autumn of the same year.

Neuilly–Porte Maillot is a station in Paris's express suburban rail system, the RER. It is situated in the 17th arrondissement of Paris. It is on line C. It is also planned to be on line E starting in 2022.

The Avenue de Malakoff is a street in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. It was given its present name in 1854, the year in which French troops captured the Malakhov Tower during the Crimean War, leading to the subsequent capture of nearby Sevastopol the following year. 410 metres long and 23.5 metres wide, it begins at the avenue Foch and ends at a junction with boulevard de l'Amiral-Bruix and the avenue de la Grande-Armée. It formerly began at place du Trocadéro but in 1936 the section between place du Trocadéro and avenue Foch was renamed avenue Raymond-Poincaré. In the street was the théâtre Malakoff, little theatrical venue at the beginning of the XXe century.

Formerly known as the Hôtel Concorde La Fayette, the Hyatt Regency Paris Étoile is a skyscraper hotel located near the Porte Maillot in the 17th arrondissement of Paris, France. The 995-room hotel is the second largest in Paris after the Le Méridien Étoile, and is part of the Palais des Congrès, one of the city's convention centers. The tower is the third-tallest inside the city of Paris (which does not contain the La Défense business district). A spire of 53 metres stands on its roof.

Notre-Dame-de-la-Compassion is a Roman Catholic Church located on Place du Général Koenig in the 17th arrondissement in Paris. It was originally built in 1842–43 as a memorial chapel to Ferdinand Philippe, Duke of Orléans, the heir to King Louis-Philippe of France, who was killed in a road accident in 1842. It was built in the Neo-Byzantine style, with elements of Gothic, Baroque and other styles, and was originally called the Chapelle Royale Saint-Ferdinand. In 1970 it was moved stone by stone from its original location a short distance away to make space for the new Palais des Congrès. It became a parish church in 1993. Its notable decoration includes stained glass windows designed by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, and sculpture by Henri de Triqueti. It was designated a French historic monument in 1929.

The Boulevard de l'Amiral-Bruix is a boulevard in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. It is one of the Boulevards of the Marshals that circle the outer parts of the city.

The Théâtre Malakoff was a theatre venue now disestablished, formerly located at 56 bis Avenue de Malakoff (today Avenue Raymond-Poincaré) in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. On 22 December 1912, Aurélien Lugné-Poe premiered there the play The Annunciation of Marie by Paul Claudel with the company of the Théâtre de l'Œuvre.

Commission des Titres d'Ingénieur (CTI) is the main committee responsible for evaluation and accreditation of higher education institutions for the training of professional engineers in France. It regulates the issuance of the Diplôme d'ingénieur and use of the academic title of "Ingénieur Diplomé" (qualified graduate engineer). Established by law on 10 July 1934, CTI does not exist as an independent administrative authority, but is nonetheless an autonomous structure within the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. In France, CTI is the relevant body in charge of carrying out evaluation procedures that lead to the accreditation of the institutions to award the engineering degree “titre d’ingénieur diplômé”. CTI is a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education and it is entered in EQAR, the European Higher Education Quality Register, which authorizes operation throughout the European Higher Education Area.

Villa Saïd is a cul-de-sac in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. It runs for 200 metres from 68, Rue Pergolèse. It is 7,5 metre wide.

The Musée d'Ennery is a national museum of Asian art located in the 16th arrondissement of Paris at 59, avenue Foch, Paris, France. The museum has grown from a private collection first begun in the second half of the 19th century by Clémence d'Ennery, wife of playwright Adolphe Philippe d'Ennery (1811–1899). In 1875 she built today's mansion in the Second Empire style, and in 1892 she began to transition it to a public museum with the help of Georges Clemenceau and Émile Deshayes, curator of the Guimet Museum. It was inaugurated as a public museum in 1908. The museum contains nearly 7000 objects purchased from the antique shops Bing, Burty, and Sichel, as well as Au Bon Marché and small boutiques, illustrating daily life in China and Japan from the 12th to 19th centuries. They are exhibited in large wooden cabinets inlaid with mother-of-pearl, and include Kyoto ceramics, Nanban Art resulting from contacts between the Japanese and the Portuguese 1543–1640, over 300 netsuke from the Tokugawa period (1603–1837), porcelain of various East India companies, dolls and figurines, carvings of semi-precious stones, ivories and bronzes, furniture, lacquerwork, with many fine carvings of animal and human forms. The museum was closed for refurbishment from 1996 to April 2012. It is opened on Thursdays pm, Saturdays pm and Sundays pm. Booking is required. The nearest métro station is Victor Hugo.
