Ziemowit Coal Mine

Lędziny ([lɛnˈd͡ʑinɨ]; German: Lendzin; Silesian: Lyńdźiny) is a town in Silesia in southern Poland, near Katowice. It borders the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union – a metropolis with a population of 2 million which is located in the Silesian Highlands. The population of the town is 16,776 (2019). It is situated in the Silesian Voivodeship since its formation in 1999, previously in Katowice Voivodeship, and before then, of the Autonomous Silesian Voivodeship. Lędziny is one of the towns of the 2.7 million conurbation – Katowice urban area and within a greater Silesian metropolitan area populated by about 5,294,000 people.

Hołdunów (German: Anhalt) is a district of Lędziny, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It was established in 1770 and merged with Lędziny in 1991. At the end of 2014 it had 5,399 inhabitants.

Bieruń [ˈbʲɛruɲ] (German: Berun, Silesian: Bieruń) is a town in Upper Silesia, in southern Poland, seat of the Bieruń-Lędziny County in the Silesian Voivodeship. It is located about 25 km (16 mi) south of Katowice.

Bieruń-Lędziny County (Polish: powiat bieruńsko-lędziński) is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat) in Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat and largest town is Bieruń, which lies 15 kilometres (9 mi) south-east of the regional capital Katowice. The county also contains the towns of Lędziny, lying 2 km (1 mi) south-east of Bieruń, and Imielin, 7 km (4 mi) east of Bieruń. Before 2002 the county had its seat in the city of Tychy (outside the county), and was called Tychy County (powiat tyski). The county covers an area of 156.68 square kilometres (60.5 sq mi). As of 2019 its total population is 59,715, out of which the population of Bieruń is 19,539, that of Lędziny is 16,776, that of Imielin is 9,175, and the rural population is 14,225.

Krasowy (German: Krassow) is a dzielnica (district) of Mysłowice, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. It was amalgamated with Mysłowice in 1975.It has an area of 9.78 km2 and in 2012, had a population of 2,811.

The Piast coal mine is a large mine in the south of Poland in Bieruń, Silesian Voivodeship, 310 km south-west of the capital, Warsaw. Piast represents one of the largest coal reserve in Poland having estimated reserves of 150 million tonnes of coal. The annual coal production is around 5 million tonnes.

Imielin [iˈmʲɛlʲin] (German: Immenau O.S.) is a town in Silesia in southern Poland, near Katowice. Borders on the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Union – metropolis with the population of 2 million. It is located in the Silesian Highlands. The population of the town is 9098 (2021).

Wesoła (German: Wessolla) is a dzielnica (district) of Mysłowice, Silesian Voivodeship, southern Poland. In years 1962–1975 it was an independent town, but was in 1975 amalgamated with Mysłowice.It has an area of 8,14 km2 and in 2012 had a population of 8,108.

Gmina Bojszowy is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Bieruń-Lędziny County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the village of Bojszowy, which lies approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) south of Bieruń and 22 km (14 mi) south of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina covers an area of 34.07 square kilometres (13.2 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 7,899.

Gmina Chełm Śląski is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Bieruń-Lędziny County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. Its seat is the village of Chełm Śląski ("Silesian Chelm"), which lies approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) east of Bieruń and 21 km (13 mi) south-east of the regional capital Katowice. The gmina also contains the villages of Chełm Mały ("Little Chełm") and Kopciowice. The gmina covers an area of 23.22 square kilometres (9.0 sq mi), and as of 2019 its total population is 6,326.

Chełm Śląski (Polish pronunciation: [xɛwm ˈɕlɔ̃skʲi]) is a village in Bieruń-Lędziny County, Silesian Voivodeship, in southern Poland. It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Chełm Śląski. It lies approximately 8 kilometres (5 mi) east of Bieruń and 21 km (13 mi) south-east of the regional capital Katowice. One of the village's best known people is the missionary scholar and priest, Father Andrzej Halemba.

The Great Synagogue in Oświęcim was, until World War II, the largest synagogue in Oświęcim, Poland. It was destroyed in November 1939.
