Rivelin Dams

The Wyming Brook is a river in the City of Sheffield, England. Its source is the Redmires Reservoirs near the Hallam Moors. It flows in a north-easterly direction for over 0.6 miles (1 km) down quite steep terrain into an underground chamber where it joins the Rivelin tunnel before it flows into the lower of the Rivelin Dams. There is a walking path that runs alongside the brook. The path can be quite steep, with it and the brook falling over 100 m in a kilometre. The river flows almost its entire length within the Wyming Brook Nature Reserve, which is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham. The surrounds are wooded near the bottom and more open near the top, with views of the Rivelin Valley. Wildlife found around Wyming Brook includes the dipper and the crossbill. The Peak District Boundary Walk runs through the nature reserve.Historically the area was used exclusively by the nobility when it was part of the hunting and hawking grounds of Rivelin Chase. Above, and to the west of the watercourse on Ash Cabin Flat is an embanked stone circle, dating to the Bronze Age.

Rivelin Rocks are a gritstone edge or escarpment in the upper Rivelin Valley at grid reference SK279873, 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) west of Sheffield just off the A57 road in the county of South Yorkshire, England.

Lodge Moor was a British military camp based near Redmires Reservoirs, Sheffield, that was best known for housing prisoners of war during World War II. It held approximately 11,000 at its peak, mostly Germans. It was established in World War I for training purposes.

Fox Hagg is a small (33.25 hectares (82.2 acres)) nature reserve in the Rivelin Valley area of Sheffield, England. The Allen Sike flows along the north edge of the reserve and the River Rivelin flows through the reserve from Rivelin Dams to the west. The Wyming Brook Nature Reserve borders Fox Hagg to the west. The site is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham.

The Redmires Reservoirs are a group of three reservoirs in Fulwood, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. They are fed from the Hallam Moors by various small streams including Fairthorn Clough. The three reservoirs are named Upper, Middle and Lower and were built between 1833 and 1854 to provide clean drinking water via an open water course which led to the Hadfield Dam situated in Crookes, following the devastating Sheffield cholera epidemic of 1832. The dams were built as part of the Sheffield Water Works continuing expansion to meet the ever growing population of Sheffield. The area is popular with walkers and bird watchers. Adjacent to the Middle Reservoir is Hammond's Field Nature Reserve, which is managed by The Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham. The nature reserve forms part of the South Pennine Moors Special Protected Area. A path, the Long Causeway leads from the Upper reservoir, onto the moors to Stanedge Pole and then onto Stanage Edge. This route was once thought to be a Roman road but is now thought to be a Medieval packhorse saltway, used to convey salt from Cheshire to Yorkshire.

Lodge Moor Hospital is a former isolation hospital on Redmires Road in the Lodge Moor area of the City of Sheffield, England. The hospital which opened in 1888 and closed in 1994 initially treated Smallpox but soon broadened its treatment to other infectious diseases and in its latter years expanded to provide more general nursing, notably spinal injuries and chest medicine. At the time of closure, the hospital was operated by the Central Sheffield University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Revell Grange is a Grade II listed English country house situated on Bingley Lane in the suburb of Stannington overlooking the Rivelin valley within the City of Sheffield, England. The house played an important role as a focal point of early Catholicism within the city and still houses a private chapel to this day.

Dungworth (archaic Dungeworth,) is a hamlet in the civil parish of Bradfield, west of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England. The village also gives its name as a surname; a 'Dungworth' is recorded living at the nearby village of Storrs in 1323. In the late 20th century the English occurrences of the surname remained concentrated in the Sheffield area.

Storrs is a hamlet within the boundaries of the City of Sheffield in England, it is situated 4 miles (6.4 km) west-northwest of the city centre. Storrs is located between the suburb of Stannington and the village of Dungworth in the civil parish of Bradfield at a height of 210 metres above sea level between the Loxley and Rivelin valleys. Although historically a farming settlement, water-powered milling on the Storrs Brook and small scale cutlery making has also taken place in the hamlet.

Damflask Reservoir is situated at grid reference SK277907 five miles (eight kilometres) west of the centre of Sheffield in the Loxley valley close to the village of Low Bradfield and within the city's boundaries. The hamlet of Stacey Bank is located to the east. The reservoir has a capacity of 4,250.9 million litres (1,123.1 million gallons) and has a surface area of 47 hectares (120 acres) with a maximum depth of 27 metres (89 feet). The dam wall is approximately 400 metres (1,300 feet) wide with a height of 28 metres (92 feet).

The Porter Brook is a river which flows through the City of Sheffield, England, descending over 1,000 feet (300 m) from its source on Burbage Moor to the west of the city to its mouth where it joins the River Sheaf in a culvert beneath Sheffield railway station. Like the other rivers in Sheffield, its steep gradient made it ideal for powering water mills and works associated with the metalworking and cutlery industries, and around 20 dams were constructed over the centuries to facilitate this. At its lower end, it is extensively culverted, but parts of it are gradually being restored to open channels, as part of a daylighting scheme for the city. The brook derives its name from its brownish colour, similar to the colour of Porter beer.

Fulwood Hall, (archaic: Fullwood Hall) is an English country house situated on Harrison Lane in the suburb of Fulwood in Sheffield, England. It is a Grade II listed building. The hall stands in a lofty position on the north side of the Mayfield Valley at a height of 270 metres (885 feet). The hall is referred to as Fullwood Hall on old maps and the gate to the hall uses this spelling with two Ls.
