Whitley Preceptory

Whitley is a village in North Yorkshire, England, close to the Aire and Calder Navigation and the M62 motorway. The population of the village at the 2001 census was recorded as being 574, which had risen to 1,021 by the time of the 2011 census. In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated the population to have risen again to 1,110. It was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. From 1974 to April 2023 it was in the Selby District of North Yorkshire.

Whitley Bridge railway station serves the villages of Eggborough and Whitley in North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Pontefract Line and is 20 miles (32 km) east of Leeds. It was opened by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway on 1 April 1848, on their line between Wakefield Kirkgate and Goole via Knottingley.

Eggborough is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, close to the county borders with South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and the East Riding, effectively making it the meeting point for 3/4 sides of Yorkshire. The village is situated at the intersection of the A19 and the A645, approximately 7 miles (11 km) east of Pontefract and 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Selby. It is also located close to the M62.

Womersley railway station was a railway station in North Yorkshire, England. It was situated on the Askern Branch Line and was built by the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway to provide at link to the great Northern Railway at Doncaster. It was opened in 1848and closed to passenger traffic back in September 1948. The platforms have since been demolished, but the railway line through the site is still open and in regular use. The grand presence and noticeable architecture of the station likely resulted from the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railways’ belief that it was in keeping with the villages location. The large "Swiss cottage style" station building is prominent. The estate at the time of construction in the 1840s belonged to Lord Roche and there were many important visitors to the estate who came by train including the Queen Mother.

Walden Stubbs is a small, rural village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. At the 2011 Census, the population was less than 100, so the details are included in the civil parish of Womersley. Situated close to the border with South Yorkshire, and north of Doncaster, it is 7 miles (11 km) south east of Pontefract, and lies close to the River Went, which rises at Featherstone.The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book, where it is described as consisting of seven households and two ploughlands. The name of the village derives from either Old German, Waldin or the Old English son of Walda. The second part, Stubbs is the Old English term for tree stumps.The village was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.The Askern Branch Line runs through this village, which has two level crossings. This rail line now carries freight and passenger trains from London Kings Cross to Bradford Interchange. There is also the occasional diverted passenger train from the East Coast Main Line.

The Church of St Edmund King and Martyr, Kellington, is a grade I listed 12th century church in the village of Kellington, North Yorkshire, England. Excavations at the site have revealed the 14th century tomb related to the Knights Templar, and in the 1990s, the foundations of the church were underpinned because of possible subsidence effects from the nearby Kellingley Colliery. Its separation from the village upon elevated land, makes it a local landmark and it has been commented upon throughout history. A stone with Medieval carvings upon it was found in the church and has given rise to a legend attached to it about a shepherd fighting a snake. The Kellington Serpent-Stone is one of the attractions of the church.

Womersley is a village in North Yorkshire, England. The parish population at the 2011 census (including Stapleton and Walden Stubbs) was 515. It is near the towns of Selby, Askern and Pontefract. It is close to the borders with South and West Yorkshire. The village was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1 April 1974, when it became part of the Selby District of North Yorkshire. On 1 April 2023, Selby District was abolished and Womersley became part of the new North Yorkshire unitary authority area.

Kellington is a small village and civil parish in the Selby District of North Yorkshire, England, on the banks of the River Aire. Situated almost equidistant between the towns of Pontefract and Selby, the village dates back to at least the 11th century when it was listed in the Domesday Book (as Chelinctone). The semi-rural community grew in size with the advent of local mining as housing was built to accommodate the workers of nearby Kellingley Colliery. The village was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.Due to its location at the southernmost tip of North Yorkshire, the village is close to the borders of West, East and South Yorkshire. Its proximity to both the A19 and M62 major roads has resulted in a steady population growth, although to a lesser extent than its neighbour, Eggborough. The low-lying ground that separates the village from the River Aire has given rise to a history of flooding the surrounding farmland, most recently in 2000.

Heck is a civil parish in the English county of North Yorkshire. The population of this civil parish at the census 2011 was 201, a slight drop on the 2001 census figure of 209. The main settlement is Great Heck, there is also Little Heck at grid reference SE599220. For the purposes of local administration Heck forms part of the district of Selby; before April 1974 it was part of Osgoldcross Rural District and the West Riding of Yorkshire. It was the location of the fatal Selby rail crash in February 2001.

Norton (South Yorkshire) railway station was a railway station to serve Norton, South Yorkshire, England. It was built by the Wakefield, Pontefract and Goole Railway company on their line between Doncaster and Knottingley. The line and its stations were absorbed into the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1847 when that company changed its name from the Manchester and Leeds Railway. The station buildings were similar to those at Womersley and were described as "Swiss Cottage" style. They are a stone built construction with a clipped gable end. At the grouping it passed to the LMS and British Railways on nationalisation. The station closed to passengers on 27 September 1948. But the railway line is still open and now carries freight trains (mainly bulk coal) to and from the power stations at Drax, Ferrybridge & Eggborough, along with Grand Central's passenger services between Bradford Interchange and London Kings Cross since 23 May 2010. As part of a report to Doncaster Borough Council in September 2008 the station site was to be protected for future use in a strategy for the railways in the borough, reopening being a distant possibility.

Norton is a village and civil parish in the City of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England, on the borders with North and West Yorkshire. The civil parish also includes the villages of Campsall and Sutton, and has a population of 4,381, increasing to 4,625 at the 2011 Census. The northern boundary of the parish is marked by the River Went, while the Great North Road forms the western boundary.

Eggborough power station was a coal-fired power station in North Yorkshire, England, which was capable of co-firing biomass. It was situated on the River Aire, between the towns of Knottingley and Snaith, deriving its name from the nearby village of Eggborough. The station had a generating capacity of 1,960 megawatts, enough electricity to power 2 million homes, equivalent to the area of Leeds and Sheffield. The station, one of the Hinton Heavies, began generating power in 1967, making use of nearby coal reserves. It was built for, and initially operated by the Central Electricity Generating Board. The station closed in September 2018 and demolition works began in 2020, with the eight cooling towers being the first to come down in 2021. The Bunker Bay was demolished on 6 March 2022, the DA Bay on 1 June 2022 and the chimney and boiler house on 24 July 2022. There are plans to replace it with a 2,500 megawatt gas power plant.
