St Paul's Church, Hensall

The Red House is a historic building in Hensall, North Yorkshire, a village in England. The house was built in 1854 by William Butterfield, as part of a group with St Paul's Church, Hensall and Hensall Primary School. It was constructed as the vicarage for the church, but later became a private house. Peter Ferriday sees the house as presaging arts and crafts architecture, saying that it "could easily be mistaken for a house by Philip Webb, and challenges the Red House [in Bexleyheath] as the first example of a conscious Victorian return to an honest unpretentious style of house-building". It is a grade II* listed building. The house is built of pinkish-brown brick with a grey slate roof. There are two storeys, three bays, and a single-story rear range. The doorway has a pointed fanlight under a pointed arch. The windows are sashes, some tripartite, those in the ground floor under header arches and pointed relieving arches, and there is a half-hipped roof dormer. Inside, there are numerous original features, including the bookshelves and fireplace in the library; fireplace and panelling in the dining room; and the staircase. There are also many original doors and some window shutters.

Hensall railway station serves the village of Hensall in North Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Pontefract Line and is 22 miles (35 km) east of Leeds. The line is used regularly by the freight companies GB Railfreight, Freightliner and DB Cargo UK that transport coal and limestone to Drax and remove the gypsum created by the flue-gas treatment equipment. The branch line to the power plant diverges just to the east of the station and was formerly supervised from the nearby signal box, but is now remotely controlled from Ferrybridge signalling centre (see below).

Heck is a civil parish in the English county of North Yorkshire. The population of this civil parish at the census 2011 was 201, a slight drop on the 2001 census figure of 209. The main settlement is Great Heck, there is also Little Heck at grid reference SE599220. For the purposes of local administration Heck forms part of the district of Selby; before April 1974 it was part of Osgoldcross Rural District and the West Riding of Yorkshire. It was the location of the fatal Selby rail crash in February 2001.

Eggborough power station was a coal-fired power station in North Yorkshire, England, which was capable of co-firing biomass. It was situated on the River Aire, between the towns of Knottingley and Snaith, deriving its name from the nearby village of Eggborough. The station had a generating capacity of 1,960 megawatts, enough electricity to power 2 million homes, equivalent to the area of Leeds and Sheffield. The station, one of the Hinton Heavies, began generating power in 1967, making use of nearby coal reserves. It was built for, and initially operated by the Central Electricity Generating Board. The station closed in September 2018 and demolition works began in 2020, with the eight cooling towers being the first to come down in 2021. The Bunker Bay was demolished on 6 March 2022, the DA Bay on 1 June 2022 and the chimney and boiler house on 24 July 2022. There are plans to replace it with a 2,500 megawatt gas power plant.

Great Heck is a small village in Heck parish, about 7 miles (11 km) south of Selby, North Yorkshire, England. The population of the parish was 201 at the 2011 census. It is part of the district of Selby, having been part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. The village was the site of the Great Heck rail crash in 2001.

The Selby rail crash (also known as the Great Heck Rail Crash) was a railway accident that occurred on 28 February 2001 near Great Heck, Selby, North Yorkshire when a passenger train collided with a car which had crashed down a motorway embankment onto the railway line. The passenger train then collided with an oncoming freight train. Ten people died, including the drivers of the two trains, and 82 were injured. It remains the worst rail disaster of the 21st century in the United Kingdom. The driver of the car, Gary Hart, was convicted of ten counts of causing death by dangerous driving and sentenced to five years in prison after a jury found that he had fallen asleep while driving. As a result of the crash, Hart's insurers paid out £30 million in claims.

Heck railway station served the parish of Heck, North Yorkshire, England from 1871 to 1963 on the East Coast Main Line.

Eggborough is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, close to the county borders with South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and the East Riding, effectively making it the meeting point for 3/4 sides of Yorkshire. The village is situated at the intersection of the A19 and the A645, approximately 7 miles (11 km) east of Pontefract and 7 miles (11 km) south-west of Selby. It is also located close to the M62.

St John the Baptist's Church is an Anglican church in Chapel Haddlesey, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The first church in Haddlesey was consecrated by Walter de Gray in 1237. It is recorded as having been rebuilt in 1312, and there is evidence that up to three chantry chapels were added to the building. In 1658, it was given its own parish, but in about 1660 that was merged into the parish of St Mary's Church, Birkin. The church was entirely rebuilt in 1836 and enlarged, to provided seating for 250 worshippers, at a cost of £700. In 1873, it was once again given its own parish. The church was enlarged in 1878 with the addition of a chancel and a vestry, to a design by William Milford Teulon. In 1884 the wooden font was replaced by a stone font. In 1891, a tower and spire were erected, along with a porch, and the interior was rearranged.

Chapel Haddlesey is a village and civil parish in the Selby District of North Yorkshire, England. The village used to be in the Barkston Ash Wapentake and up until 1974, it was in the West Riding of Yorkshire. The village is just east off the A19 road, which crosses the River Aire on Haddlesey Bridge.
