345 California Center is a 48-story office tower in the financial district of San Francisco, California. Completed in 1986, the 211.8 m (695 ft) tower is the fifth tallest in the city after the Salesforce Tower, Transamerica Pyramid, 181 Fremont, and 555 California Street if the spires are included. It was originally proposed to be 30 m (98 ft) taller. The building was developed by Norland Properties, a private real estate investment firm led by Hany Ben-Halim. 345 California is in the middle of a block with historic buildings on each of the four corners. Initially planned as condominiums, the top 11 floors of the building are the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero, located in twin towers set at 45-degree angles to the rest of the building. Several glass skybridges offer views of the San Francisco Bay Area. The hotel has the street address 222 Sansome, with a different entrance.

The 101 California Street Shooting was a mass shooting on July 1, 1993, in San Francisco, California. The killings sparked a number of legal and legislative actions that were precursors to the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, H.R. 3355, 103rd Congress. The Act took effect in 1994 and expired in September 2004 after the expiration of a sunset provision. At the time, the incident was the deadliest mass shooting in the Bay Area's history, being surpassed 28 years later by the 2021 San Jose shooting.

The Royal Insurance Building is a former office building located at 201 Sansome Street, San Francisco, California, and now converted to condominiums. It is San Francisco Landmark #160, built in 1907 to designs by architects Howells & Stokes. Its facade and marble entryway sculpture appears to be very similar to that of the former Royal Insurance Building at William Street and Maiden Lane in New York City, designed by the same architect. The sculpture is apparently by Rochette and Parzini. It is crowned by a clock, supported by the lion and unicorn, with English roses and Scottish thistles, and the motto "Tutum te sistam". Two cartouches contain the Liver bird to the left, representing Liverpool, and a cross and dagger to the right. Howells & Stokes, who were located in New York City, sent Seattle architect Abraham H. Albertson as their representative to supervise the construction.

It was designed by George W. Kelham and built in 1929, in the architectural style of Gothic Moderne, Moderne and Art Deco.Shell Oil Company occupied the building until the 1960s. There are castings of shells that decorate the cornice on the upper levels as well as shell designs in the lobby floor and decorative grill at the front of the building.A renovation by Heller Manus Architects won the San Francisco Architectural Heritage Award in 1994.

In the 1920s, the Tadich Grill claimed to be the first American restaurant to grill seafood over mesquite charcoal, a traditional Croatian method.
