The district encompasses 433 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 6 contributing structures on the original Cooleemee Cotton Mill Company property at Cooleemee. It was developed between 1898 and 1967, and includes notable examples of Gothic Revival, American Craftsman, and Colonial Revival style architecture. Notable contributing resources include the mill houses of 12 house types, Cooleemee Cotton Mill complex, Pest House and the company farm, Friendship Baptist Church (c. 1905), North Cooleemee Elementary School (1952), Church of the Good Shepherd (1925), Cooleemee United Methodist Church (1932), First Baptist Church of Cooleemee (1949), Cooleemee Recreation Center Bathhouse (1949), “The Holler,” and “Riverside Park,” also known as “Park Hill.”It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Foard-Tatum House is a historic plantation house located near Cooleemee, Davie County, North Carolina. It was built about 1845, and is a two-story, three-bay, timber frame dwelling in a transitional Federal /Greek Revival style. The interior is in the style of Asher Benjamin and a rear ell was added in the 1860s or 1870s. Also on the property are the contributing log smokehouse and corn crib. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Henry Connor Bost House is a historic home located near South River, Rowan County, North Carolina. It is also very close to Salisbury, NC. It was built in 1869, and is a two-story, center-hall plan, Greek Revival style frame dwelling. It is sheathed in weatherboard and has a full-width, hipped roof porch. It was purchased in 1961 from the second owners and fully restored in 1993. The home is surrounded by 135 acres of private rolling hills and woodlands. The acreage is protected by the Three Rivers Land Trust. It is now used as a special event venue and airbnb/vacation rental under the name of Henry Connor Bost House and Farm. The family also uses the home for family gatherings/vacations. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

The district encompasses 8 contributing buildings, 1 contributing site, and 4 contributing structures on a rural estate including a manor house. It was developed between 1911 and 1931 by William Rabb Craig (1870-1931), a wealthy cotton and sugar broker. The manor house was built between 1933 and 1934, and is a two-story, "H"-plan, brick Colonial Revival dwelling designed by the architectural firm Delano & Aldrich. Other notable resources include the grounds of Boxwood Lodge, greenhouse (c. 1940), log cabin (1932-1933, 1940s), great barn (1910s), feed / grain house (c. 1940), and entrance piers (1934).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.

The Griffith–Sowers House is a United States historic home located near Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina. It was built between 1930 and 1932 and is a large two-story, Colonial Revival style frame country house. It features a five-bay wide center block that is covered by a side-gable slate roof and linked by shallow one-bay wide hyphens to flanking, recessed, and perpendicular gable-front two-story wings. Other features include the poultry house (c. 1934–1940), barn (c. 1934-c. 1960), small storage building (c. 1940–1950), and landscaped grounds.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

It was built in 1894, and is a two-story, rectangular, Gothic Revival style brick building. It features multiple Gothic-arched window openings and front entrance. The building housed a school into the 1910s, then was converted to tenant house, and after 1936 used for storage. The building was converted to a residence in the 1990s.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

The house was built about 1822, and is a two-story, three-bay, Federal style frame dwelling. It is sheathed in weatherboard and has a full-width, one-story shed roofed porch. The house was designated a post office in 1822. Also on the property are the contributing log smokehouse, large barn (c. 1898), "lighthouse" or Delco house (c. 1917), corn crib (c. 1917), gear house (c. 1917), woodhouse (c. 1917), spring house, mill site, shop, and plantation office.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
