South Johnston High School (also referred to as "South") is a high school for grades 9–12 located in Four Oaks, North Carolina, near Benson. The school was built in 1969 in order to integrate the area's "all-white" and "all-black" schools. The principal is William Weaver, one of the former assistant principals at the school. The school is located in the Southern portion of Johnston County. Middle schools that feed into South Johnston include Benson Middle School, Four Oaks Middle School, and Meadow School (K–8).

WPYB (1130 AM) is a radio station in Benson, North Carolina—a small town between Raleigh and Fayetteville—that has a classic country music format. WPYB was the first station that was owned by George G. Beasley, the founder of Beasley Broadcast Group. Beasley founded the station to cater to the black community in the Benson area, inspired by his commitment to provide a "voice for the voiceless" in his local community.WPYB operates only during daylight hours to accommodate the signal of WBBR in New York City. According to a listing in the SRDS Radio Advertising Source, Spring/Summer 2007, WPYB billed itself as "the best little station in the nation". On April 29, 2021, WPYB was sold to McLamb Broadcasting for US$190,000.

It encompasses 29 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in the town of Four Oaks. It includes notable examples of Mission Revival style architecture and buildings dating from about 1890 to 1957. It includes commercial, residential, ecclesiastical, and educational structures. Notable buildings include the W.E. Stanley Store (c. 1890, 1947), Blake Adams Store (1904), Four Oaks Bank Building, Lassiter Building (c. 1925), W. D. Allen Building (1926), Four Oaks Drugstore (1937), Sinclair Gas Station (c. 1930s).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

West Johnston High School or WJHS is located in Benson, North Carolina. It is part of Johnston County School district and was established in the 2002-2003 school year to address crowding problems in other local high schools.

McGee's Crossroads is an unincorporated community in Johnston County, North Carolina, United States, situated at the intersection of North Carolina Highway 50, and North Carolina Highway 210. It lies at an elevation of 292 feet (89 m).The community of McGee's Crossroads extends to the intersection of I-40 and Hwy. 210, west to the town of Angier, and the intersection of Hwy. 50 and Hwy. 42. The Battle of Averasborough or the Battle of Averasboro, fought March 16, 1865, in Harnett and Cumberland counties, North Carolina, as part of the Carolinas Campaign of the American Civil War, was a prelude to the climactic Battle of Bentonville, which began three days later.

Cleveland is an unincorporated community in suburban northwestern Johnston County, North Carolina, United States. It lies at an elevation of 243 feet (74 m). The settlement is also known as Cleveland Crossings, Cleveland Community, Cleveland School or 40/42, so named for the intersection of I-40 and NC 42 at the northeastern edge of the community, which serves as the primary commercial hub of the area. NC 50 skirts the western edge of the community. The community's population is concentrated along Cleveland Road (also known as Cleveland School Road) in Johnston County. While officially unincorporated, postal addresses for the community generally lie in Garner (for the northern parts of the community), Clayton (in the eastern and central parts of the community) and Benson (for the southern part of the community). The community is named for the Cleveland School, a former K-12 school lying on Cleveland Road, the grounds of which currently house a community center, senior adult housing, a gymnasium and numerous athletic fields managed by the Greater Cleveland Athletic Association (GCAA), and a branch of the Johnston Community College. Nearby unincorporated communities include McGee's Crossroads to the south along NC 50 and Willow Spring to the west along NC 42. There have been several efforts to incorporate the rapidly growing community, though the issue was tabled by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1999. Since there is already a town known as Cleveland elsewhere in the state, the name of the proposed incorporated town has been a minor point of contention. Thousands of new homes have been built in the community, making it one of the faster-growing areas in Johnston County. Its location at a major interchange along Interstate 40 has made it a burgeoning business center.

Harnett County Training School, also known as Harnett High School, is a historic school complex for African-American students located at Dunn, Harnett County, North Carolina. The complex was built between 1922 and 1956, and consists of one two-story and five single-story brick buildings. They include a gable front combined Gymnasium/Auditorium (1948); the two-story, 14 teacher, flat-roofed, Colonial Revival-style Rosenwald-funded Harnett County Training School (1922); a detached brick boiler room (1950); two, one-story, flat-roofed Library and Office Building and Cafeteria buildings (1956); and a one-story, flat-roofed Rosenwald-funded classroom annex added in 1927, now designated the Education Building.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

Cleveland High School or CvHS is located in unincorporated Johnston County, North Carolina. It lies within the Cleveland community, with a postal address of Clayton. It was established during the 2010–2011 school year. It is a public school which is part of Johnston County Schools. Cleveland High School was originally part of Cleveland School, which was founded in 1925 as an all-grade school. However, in 1969, due to the growth of student population in Johnston County, the high school grade students were moved to high schools throughout the county, including South Johnston High School. To account for the continued growth in Johnston County, two new schools, Cleveland High School and Corinth Holders High School, opened in 2010.

Walter R. and Eliza Smith Moore House is a historic home located near Clayton, Johnston County, North Carolina. It was built circa 1835. It is a two-story, four-bay, single-pile, vernacular Federal style heavy timber frame dwelling. It sits on a brick foundation, is sheathed in weatherboard, and has a two-story front portico. Also on the property is a contributing meat house (c. 1835).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
