Four Oaks, North Carolina

Four Oaks Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Four Oaks, Johnston County, North Carolina. It encompasses 29 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in the town of Four Oaks. It includes notable examples of Mission Revival style architecture and buildings dating from about 1890 to 1957. It includes commercial, residential, ecclesiastical, and educational structures. Notable buildings include the W.E. Stanley Store (c. 1890, 1947), Blake Adams Store (1904), Four Oaks Bank Building, Lassiter Building (c. 1925), W. D. Allen Building (1926), Four Oaks Drugstore (1937), Sinclair Gas Station (c. 1930s).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

South Johnston High School (also referred to as "South") is a high school for grades 9–12 located in Four Oaks, North Carolina, near Benson. The school was built in 1969 in order to integrate the area's "all-white" and "all-black" schools. The principal is William Weaver, one of the former assistant principals at the school. The school is located in the Southern portion of Johnston County. Middle schools that feed into South Johnston include Benson Middle School, Four Oaks Middle School, and Meadow School (K–8).

Hannah's Creek Primitive Baptist Church is a historic Primitive Baptist church located at Benson, Johnston County, North Carolina. It was built about 1834 or about 1866, and is a vernacular one-story rectangular, timber-frame building, five bays wide and three bays deep. It rests on a brick pier foundation and has a gable roof. The building measures 36 feet wide and 48 feet long. The church was moved to its present location in the 1930s. Also on the property is a contributing church cemetery with burials dating from the late-19th century to 1940.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.

It includes notable examples of Queen Anne style architecture and buildings dating from about the 1870s through the 1940s. Located in the district is the separately listed Hood-Strickland House. Other notable buildings include the Smithfield Elementary School (1912-1913), the Smithfield Steam Laundry (c. 1902), Woodall-Fleming House (c. 1870), Davis-Boyette House (1889), Ellington-Holland House (c. 1900), Willis Henry Austin House (1912), Dr. Thel Hooks House (1916), and Ragsdale-McLemore House (1922). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Hood-Strickland House, also known as the T. R. Hood House, is a historic home located at Smithfield, Johnston County, North Carolina. It was built between 1887 and 1889, and is a two-story, three-bay, T-shaped Italianate style frame dwelling. It has a tall clipped gable roof, bracketed cornice, three sided bays, tall corbelled chimneys, segmental arched windows, and a decorative porch. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.

The airport is located 3 miles (4.8 km) northwest of downtown Smithfield. Johnston County Courthouse is a historic courthouse building located at Smithfield, Johnston County, North Carolina. It was designed by architect Harry Barton and built in 1920–1921. It is a three-story, rectangular steel frame building with a cut stone veneer in the Classical Revival style. It features a four-column portico in antis, a tetrastyle pedimented portico, and a stone balustrade at the roofline. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

It has a double engaged front piazza, an original rear shed piazza. The interior was remodeled in the Greek Revival style, when the house was moved to its present site in 1854. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Hood Brothers Building, also known as Hood's Corner, is a historic commercial building located at Smithfield, Johnston County, North Carolina. It was built in 1923, and is a two-story, five bay by six bay, rectangular steel frame building with a brick veneer in the Classical Revival style. The building incorporates two storefronts; the second and third floors were occupied by offices. The storefronts were for many years occupied by a drug store and barber shop. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is located in the Downtown Smithfield Historic District.

It encompasses 24 contributing buildings in the central business district of Smithfield. It includes notable examples of Classical Revival and Art Deco style architecture and buildings dating from about the 1890s through the 1930s. Located in the district is the separately listed Hood Brothers Building. Other notable buildings include the Austin Building (1921), First Citizens Bank (1913), Carolina Telephone Building (1913), Municipal Building (1937), and the Howell Theater (1935). It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
