Mount Stuart Square is a residential and commercial square in Cardiff, Wales. It is located in the Butetown area of the city. Originally developed in the late 1800s as a residential location for nearby dock workers, it quickly became a centre for upscale residential properties which revolved around the main square. By 1900, commercial activity had taken its place, dominated by the Coal Exchange, which occupied the once open central space. The square contains a high concentration of listed buildings, which represent a range of architectural styles and some of Cardiff's finest examples of late 19th and early 20th Century commercial architecture. Mount Stuart Square area was designated a Conservation Area in July 1980.

The Point was a music venue in Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, Wales, located in the deconsecrated Grade II-listed St Stephen's Church.

West Yard Works was the Taff Vale Railway's locomotive repair and construction factory. It was located in Cardiff between Bute Street and the Glamorganshire Canal. A small engine shed with room for one locomotive and a repair shop was built there when the railway was first constructed in 1839, but much of the work had to be carried out in the open air.In 1846 Henry Clement was appointed as the railway's Resident Engineer and one of the first things he did was to have a locomotive works built there. In 1857 the first locomotive was built at the works, 'Venus' a small 2-4-0 passenger loco.When the Taff Vale introduced the 0-6-2T type, which was to become ubiquitous across South Wales, the works traverser could not accommodate the longer wheelbase so locomotives had to have their trailing radial wheels removed while within the works.The works could only be accessed by level crossings accessed by turntables on the main line near the railway's terminus at Bute Road station.Shortage of space finally led Tom Hurry Riches, the railway's Locomotive Superintendent to suspend locomotive building by the company itself after the completion of the O1 class in 1897. However in 1903 a small steam engine unit for the company's first rail motor was built there, the carriage part being built at their Cathays Carriage and Wagon Works, however further rail motors were all built by outside contractors. After the Great War there were plans to build a new works at Radyr but as the company was to amalgamate with the Great Western Railway and other South Wales companies in 1922 that plan was abandoned and the Great Western subsequently concentrated all major locomotive repair work in South Wales at the former Rhymney Railway's Caerphilly Works. New workshops were constructed at Caerphilly and after their opening West Yard Works finally closed on 28 August 1926, the remaining workforce transferring to Caerphilly.One locomotive built at West Yard has survived, as the last standard gauge loco built in Wales. No 28, an O1 class 0-6-2T is now a part of the National Collection, currently under restoration at the Gwili Railway.

Cardiff Bay Police Station (which replaced Butetown Police Station) is the South Wales Police Eastern Division area headquarters and custody suite, located on James Street, Cardiff, Wales.

Cardiff Bay railway station (Welsh: Bae Caerdydd), formerly Cardiff Bute Road, is a station serving the Cardiff Bay and Butetown areas of Cardiff, Wales. It is the southern terminus of the Butetown branch line 1 mile (1.5 km) south of Cardiff Queen Street. Only one platform is now in use. The station building lies on Bute Street, although the rest of the station remains visible from the nearby Lloyd George Avenue. For various reasons, including it being the origin of the first steam-powered passenger train service in Wales, the station is a Grade II* listed building.Passenger services are provided by Transport for Wales. The station is due to close by December 2023, when the new Cardiff Bay station opens.

Third Floor Gallery was an independent charitable photography gallery in Cardiff Bay, Wales. It opened in 2010 and predominantly featured documentary photography, often premiering new work with the direct involvement of the photographers. It closed in 2016.Third Floor Gallery was set up and initially run by its founding trustees, photographers Maciej Dakowicz and Joni Karanka, and later photographer Bartosz Nowickii, with help from volunteers. It continued to be self-run with volunteer staff and was self-financed through various grassroots sources. It was noted for its use of social networking for engaging with visitors and volunteers at a time when that was not common place for galleries.Notable photographers that exhibited at Third Floor Gallery include Martin Parr, David Hurn, Tom Wood, Chris Steele-Perkins, Larry Fink, Mark Cohen, John Bulmer, Rob Hornstra, Simon Roberts, Peter Dench, Ewen Spencer, Ken Grant and Vanessa Winship.

Techniquest is a science discovery centre located in Cardiff Bay. It gives visitors a hands-on approach to science and includes a science theatre, a planetarium, and an exhibition space with over 100 interactive exhibits aimed at visitors of all ages. Techniquest was founded in 1986 by Professor John Beetlestone (1932–2016) and his colleagues from Cardiff University. It previously had a sister venue located in Wrexham, along with locations in Llanberis in Gwynedd, and the Adventure Centre in Narberth, Pembrokeshire.

Butetown (or The Docks, Welsh: Tre-biwt) is a district and community in the south of the city of Cardiff, the capital of Wales. It was originally a model housing estate built in the early 19th century by The 2nd Marquess of Bute, for whose title the area was named. Commonly known as "Tiger Bay", this area became one of the UK's first multicultural communities with people from over 50 countries settled here by the outbreak of the First World War, working in the docks and allied industries. Some of the largest communities included the Somalis, Yemenis and Greeks, whose influence still lives on today. A Greek Orthodox church still stands at the top of Bute Street. It is known as one of the "five towns of Cardiff", the others being Crockherbtown, Grangetown, Newtown and Temperance Town. The population of the ward and community taken at the 2011 census was 10,125. It is estimated that the Butetown's population increased to 14,094 by 2019.

Tiger Bay (Welsh: Bae Teigr) was the local name for an area of Cardiff which covered Butetown and Cardiff Docks. Following the building of the Cardiff Barrage, which dams the tidal rivers, Ely and Taff, to create a body of water, it is referred to as Cardiff Bay. Tiger Bay is Wales’ oldest multi-ethnic community, with sailors and workers from over 50 countries settling there from the mid-19th century onwards.

Curran Steels was a manufacturing company in Cardiff, Wales, founded as the Edward Curran Engineering Co and known locally as Curran's. The factory was located on the east bank of the River Taff, near to Cardiff Docks. It was served by the Riverside branch railway.

Clarence Road railway station, was a railway station in Cardiff, and was the terminus of the Cardiff Riverside Branch. Initially, the line opened in 1882 and was used by the Great Western for freight services only. The passenger station was opened on 2 April 1894 but, although owned by the Great Western Railway, they never ran passenger services to the station until the Grouping in 1923. Prior to that, it served as a terminus for the Barry Railway for its services to Barry and Barry Island and for the Taff Vale Railway for its services to Cadoxton via Penarth. These services were taken over by the Great Western Railway in 1923 when the Barry and the Taff Vale were amalgamated with the Great Western. Photographs of the station show it to have been a simple structure consisting of one platform, with wooden buildings. It was closed on 16 March 1964, when British Railways withdrew passenger services from the branch, along with the Riverside platforms at the northern end of the branch at Cardiff General.

The Cardiff Riverside Branch was a short railway constructed as an industrial railway in Cardiff, South Wales by the Great Western Railway.New industries had developed along the banks of the River Taff south from Cardiff Central station towards Cardiff Docks. Whilst the main Bute and Roath docks were well serviced by both the Great Western Railway (GWR) and the Taff Vale Railway (TVR), the relatively thin spit of land between the River Taff and the Glamorganshire Canal, known locally as "Rat Island", was not. Cardiff Riverside station was built immediately to the south of Cardiff Station (the mainline GWR station, now called Cardiff Central), with the tracks joining the GWR mainline immediately to the west. Construction began in early 1882, reaching an interim goods-only station two-thirds along the spit, allowing opening on 14 September 1882. This served several factories, notably Curran Steels, to the west of the line, which produced rolled steel and brass and then pressed them to make enamel wares. The line was then extended to a second goods-only station at Clarence Road (at 51.4646°N 3.1713°W / 51.4646; -3.1713), making the total length of the line 0.7 miles (1.1 km). In 1894 the line was upgraded for passenger use, allowing the TVR to extend its existing passenger services, running from Cogan to Clarence Road from 2 April 1894. This also allowed connection to the made with the Cardiff Tramways Company system. During both World Wars the line was used to transport raw materials and munitions to and from the Curran's works, which became a munitions factory manufacturing shell casings and tank tracks. Production of machine gun ammunition continued until the 1960s. The line continued to run under British Railways from 1948. The passenger service to Clarence Road station closed in March 1964. Freight services to the Curran's yard sidings continued until July 1968, when the entire line was closed and quickly taken up. The entire spit has been redeveloped, with industry squeezed out between developing office, retail and housing developments. Few signs of the former line or its stations exist today.
